Is my pale pearl nail varnish nice or naff (with pic)?

I think I like it, but seem to remember I had something like in approx 1991 and had not seen it bring worn on anyone since! Maybe there's a reason for that!
What's the verdict please, nice or naff?

I'm honestly more surprised a lot of think they are too long! I file them every 2 weeks, but I do have very fast growing hair& nails.
dull ha that made me laugh- thanks for your concern but I manage just fine, don't think any of my teenage DS's would let me give their face s quick wipe anyway these days Grin

I like them OP. Different to the ‘short in grey or navy’ / long and pointy that everyone seems to have these days.

Queenio24 · 19/03/2018 07:21

Buzz - thanks, that's my shape but shorter. You have nice big nail plates.
I think it's my interpretation of an almond then that's the problem.

I’ll stick with old fashioned then if that’s what people think that shape/length is. Can’t stand really pointy or square top nails, think they look ridiculous.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 19/03/2018 08:48

It's nice, but not my thing.

Kitsharrington · 19/03/2018 08:54

Naff. I find anything pearlescent a bit ‘80s.

FlorisApple · 19/03/2018 09:04

Very similar to what my 96 year old Grandmother has. Make of that what you will. She's very glamorous, but not quite my style.

Mulberrysilk · 19/03/2018 09:12

Naff.

Pearl polish highlights every bump and ridge in the nails.

Piccolino2 · 19/03/2018 09:38

I think you have lovely nails OP.
I had a huge obsession with nails before I had kids a few years ago and had my own nail blog - I think frosty shades were the only thing that not many nail obsessed people really liked. As others have said they highlight every bump and for me they really do remind me of what my Grandmother would have worn in the 80’s. I’m sure eventually they’ll come back.

If you like it then wear and enjoy - who cares, besides I doubt that many people would even notice. If you are looking to be a bit more on trend then slightly shorter nails with a pale opaque polish may look more on trend.

RavenWings · 19/03/2018 09:42

Don't like it at all - the colour is patchy and I agree that your nails are a bit long.

DentalDilemma · 19/03/2018 09:53

Completely agree! I actually think that typical square gel nail style looks really naff and dated now. I also dislike how gel can make nails look really thick. Much prefer a more natural shape like the OP's, although they are a bit too long for my taste.

Not keen on the colour though, looks unflattering and dated to me - sorry!

VickieCherry · 19/03/2018 11:01

Like Piccolino2 I used to be massively into nails - never had a blog but I certainly have enough polish to start one!

There is quite a lot of snobbery in the nail community about nail shapes. It's a fashion, the same as anything else. Personally I hate squoval/squared tips and my nails break whenever I file them into that shape. Pointy talons aren't practical for adult life. Your shape isn't really almond - it needs to be filed on the sides more - but if you like it, keep it. My nails and hair grow super fast too, and I honestly don't notice them growing until I suddenly realise I can't type properly! I like long nails as long as they're well-kept, which yours appear to be. You do you! I often wear glitter polish (am 36), which I'm sure some people think is horribly naff ;-)

RoseWhiteTips · 19/03/2018 12:05

Short nails would have suited it.

HuskyMcClusky · 19/03/2018 12:07

I completely agree - hate gel for this reason.

I don’t think nails should be square, exactly. More just their natural shape (which is mote like Buzz’s shape than oval). And not too long.

Luckingfovely · 19/03/2018 12:07

The 80s called and want their nails back!! Wink

RoseWhiteTips · 19/03/2018 12:12

I don’t use polish at all, preferring a natural look, but the OP’s nails are nicer than the fake bulbous nails you see around and the different ring finger thing. Not attractive imo.

HuskyMcClusky · 19/03/2018 12:14

The ‘one different finger’ thing is naff beyond belief.

OutyMcOutface · 19/03/2018 12:17

The colour itself is fine but it is too light for your skin tone. You should either pick a shade that matches or is slightly darker.

PeterRabbitEatingHisCarrot · 19/03/2018 12:18

It looks nice and natural. Nude/pale shades are in fashion.

It does look like the shade my grandma would wear but that suggests it's a timeless colour.

PeterRabbitEatingHisCarrot · 19/03/2018 12:20

Why is it naff? It's a beauty trend like any other. Just because you may personally not paint your nails like this, it doesn't make it 'naff'.

Queenio24 · 19/03/2018 12:22

Lol - I'm getting the message about the length. I'll give them a file tonight.
I guess I'm an 80's / 90's chick at heart, that's why it's not too offensive to me at the moment.
I've had dark navy polish last week, and before that a dark gel polish so the paleness appealed to me. I guess its probably old fashioned then.
I too have about 50+ polishes myself, and I switch with getting gel polishes done too. I don't mind trying out new colours.
I agree my nails are quite ridged on 3rd and 4th fingers and this shows through.

OP posts:
Queenio24 · 19/03/2018 12:24

Oh yes I also sometimes commit the 'crime' of one finger different when I have a gel polish. Like I say I don't mind trying new/ different stuff.

Absolutely agree

Even worse if there is a diamanté in the odd one

Dandellion · 19/03/2018 13:38

It looks very 1987 bridal.

xxxbdjaix · 19/03/2018 14:11

Not that keen does look very 90s sorry OP. Could do with another coat I think. However if you like it you shouldn't be bothered what anyone else thinks.
