Sandals - cool but also comfortable

I need sandals for this year - they need to be granny levels of comfortable and although they will mostly be worn in the back of beyond where fashion fears to tread, I will also be in London and want to be suitably on point.

For context, my style is ripped boyfriend jeans, Whistles stuff, Stan smiths, platinum shaggy bob (currently pale pink actually!). In the summer abroad it's denim short shorts, short plain smock dresses, maxi skirt/crop top.

Birkenstocks? Saltwater? Were saltwater only cool 2 years ago or are they timeless? I have pretty glittery Zara sandals for "good" wear - I need everyday cool. Budget about £60.

Please help!

Where can one try on Teva’s? does the sizing run true to size or big/small?

DaftCat · 17/03/2018 17:57

I love my Tevas. I’ve convinced myself that they’re cool rather than ugly. Whatever they are they’re comfortable and tbh that’s all I really care about. They are true to size I’d say. Neither big nor small.

hettie · 17/03/2018 17:59

Pikolinos, Gabor? Teva are very comfy, and my yokono sandals are very comfy and look cool (and I have very neurotic get) here

Hellsbellscockleshells · 17/03/2018 18:16

I’m with you duckling84 and live in the North if England.

OutsideContextProblem · 17/03/2018 19:07

Outdoor shops like Blacks will stock Tevas. John Lewis sports department also worth a try.

LoniceraJaponica · 17/03/2018 20:08

My sandals are Earth Spirit MinaPaws
They have lasted for nearly 5 years so far. I love them. They are comfortable, supportive and dressy enough to wear in the evening. I have had my FitFlop flipflops for at least 7 years now, and they are unbelievably comfortable.

astoundedgoat · 18/03/2018 09:03

Thank you for all this! Loads of great suggestions.

We spend about 3 months of the year in a hot country of a distinctly rugged nature and last year I juggled trainers and havaianas and it was inadequate, to say the least.

If the green oak & Hyde ones don't work out, I'll get another pair of Gizeh, perhaps.

It sounds like we have similar styles OP. I used to live entirely in Birkenstock but I find I can’t wear them all day walking these days. Last year I bought these fitflops and they are so comfy and I can walk all day in them. I love my salt waters too but they are so very flat that again I can’t do all day walking in them.

Sandals - cool but also comfortable
Hoppinggreen · 18/03/2018 09:54

I love my fitflops but I’ve also got some Sketchers sandals and they are nice too.
I’ve got Birkenstocks but I find I kind of flop my feet about in them. They are silver and I’ve had them a few years, they need replacing this year but I’m not sure I will get Birkies again

Purpledahlia88 · 18/03/2018 09:57

Birkenstocks are not "cool" to people who suggested them, they're hideous looking

Purpledahlia88 · 18/03/2018 09:59

The majority of suggestions, if they weren't made by some famous brand, really look like the sort of thing you'd see advertised in the last few pages of woman's own

Uniglo18 · 18/03/2018 10:07

Fitflop are comfortable to walk in all day because they are not flat like saltwaters.
They have a raised, angled foot bed which are perfect for all day walking. You get the support if you have high arches.

Letseatgrandma · 18/03/2018 11:16

How rude! And just your opinion.

OutsideContextProblem · 18/03/2018 11:21

Things can be both cool and hideous simultaneously, as anyone who’s seen a hipster wearing pool slides with socks in East London can confirm.

Purpledahlia88 · 18/03/2018 11:26

I wouldn't describe that as a hipster look, it is however all the rage in Essex with 15 year old towie aspiring types

OutsideContextProblem · 18/03/2018 11:28

It’s a bit passé nowadays I grant you but three years ago it was a bona fide cutting edge hipster look and also the ugliest thing in the world.

tenredthings · 18/03/2018 11:30

My fit flops broke between the toe after just one summer, also the plastic insole irritated my feet. Shame because they look good. The cork sole on the Burkenstocks I bought to replace the fit flops cracked after just several months. Anyone know of a durable comfy stylish sandal ? !

WindyWednesday · 18/03/2018 11:37

Teva.

LoniceraJaponica · 18/03/2018 17:08

I'm not cool enough to even know what pool slides are Grin
Off to google

SakuraSunrise · 18/03/2018 17:14

I discovered Palmairas sandals via mumsnet and they are amazing! the most comfy shoes I've ever had, look gorgeous, come in so many different colours and designs, keep your feet cool but cover up your toes (great if you have ugly toes like me), I'm a total convert!

OutsideContextProblem · 18/03/2018 17:26

There you go
For many many reasons it is not a look I would recommend to the OP

Sandals - cool but also comfortable
MsRinky · 18/03/2018 17:41

Yokono and Esska. Can't wait for it to be sandal weather again to get mine out.

Hoppinggreen · 18/03/2018 17:49

What sort of fitting are the Palmairas sakura?
I have chubby feet and a lot of shoes in that style are tight and I get foot bulge ( very attractive)

LoniceraJaponica · 18/03/2018 18:28

No to the Palmairas from me. The soles are too flat and don't offer any support. This is why Saltwaters wouldn't do either. Earth Spirit, Teva and FitFlop all offer much better support for people who want to walk around all day.

Thank you Outside Grin

SakuraSunrise · 18/03/2018 18:34

@Hoppinggreen they're lovely soft leather so they do have a bit of give, but I'd say they're quite an average fit as I have quite average width size 5 feet and the size 5 palmairas are a perfect fit.
