Wearing gym clothes all day

Karcheer · 15/03/2018 21:10

I've noticed a lot of women near where I live seem to wear gym clothes a lot of the time. I'm not sure if they are on the way to the gym, or if they just dress like this.
I think it looks pretty cool, and tbh it would suit me to do this, as I like comfy clothes and it would probably motivate me to actually get to the gym at some point.

However is this akin to wearing your PJs to the supermarket?
Is it weird to wear the NY caps? Why do people do this?

Sorry if these are massively stupid question, but sometimes I feel like i'm living on the moon as people wear very different clothes to what i'm used to (ex city type, now living in an area with lots of full time mums).
Thank you!

I have a fairly casual dress code at work, and I am often trying to figure out a kind of sportswear ‘work uniform’ of yoga pants, layered tops and smart trainers, but I have not quite figured it out fully yet. Sadly I look better in tailored clothes.

cheeriosandcornflakes · 15/03/2018 21:33

Maybe they go to the gym to do something not too sweaty and can't be arsed to change afterwards? Maybe it's comfy like you said.
Hardly the same as PJs is it. Maybe they are ex city types too and glad to get out of formal wear Smile

Growingboys · 15/03/2018 21:41

I don't understand what you're asking

upsideup · 15/03/2018 21:43

I wear gym like clothes pretty muh everyday, i go to the gym 3 times a week and then just change into clean gym clothes. I'm notsure exactly what your asking though?

userofthiswebsite · 15/03/2018 21:52

I think it's a trend over the past few years called athleisurewear.

Ahh I've just googled athleisurewear... it all now makes sense. thank you!

I go to the gym in the morning so if I need stuff from town I just go in my gym kit. I am not gonna drive home, shower, change just to go back in. Waste of time and petrol. I would feel a little silly deliberately dressing like that though if I had no gym.

MazDazzle · 15/03/2018 22:00

I was just about to post that link Readit! Grin

Activewear, activewear...

Karcheer · 15/03/2018 22:01

Haha! Great video.

I sometimes go to a Pilates class in the morning, I don't get sweaty so I don't always change afterwards.

sidewayswithatescotrolley · 15/03/2018 22:05

I think they are just comfortable clothes. I'd like to do it too but I'm too fat and everyone would be wondering why I wasn't actually going to the gym!

PurplePirate · 15/03/2018 22:05

I'm always reminded of this when I see women in black leggings

Activewear and loungewear, by far my favourite developments in shopping over the past few years.

ForSaleChesterDraws · 16/03/2018 06:45

I’m pretty sure that half the parents at the school gates think I live in gym gear. If I get to drop DS off then I’m always going to the gym straight after. They don’t tend to see me in normal clothes as it means I’m in work and not doing drop off/ pick up.

IWannaSeeHowItEnds · 16/03/2018 09:12

Love that video - it's so me! I wear leggings etc in the hope it will make me do some exercise. Hasn't happened much yet!
I do like to be comfy - can't see why that's a bad thing.

AnaViaSalamanca · 16/03/2018 10:51

I find wearing gym clothes all day very boring and sloppy, and a bit dirty if they are not showering after gym...

But yes it is a big trend especially in US.

rightknockered · 16/03/2018 12:18

I have spent the day in gym gear today, and intend to wear for the rest of the day, am even going to the cinema and drink later and may wear again. I have nice trainers on.

AnyFucker · 16/03/2018 12:22

There was a woman interviewed on This Morning today in her "active wear".

She looked very silly.

sweetmonkeys · 16/03/2018 12:37

Love the activewear vid Grin

I wear mine to drop DCs at school, purely because I go running immediately afterwards. I change and shower as soon as I've finished my run.

People wear FAR worse on the school run. Grin

stegosauruslady · 16/03/2018 15:08

I do sometimes wear my running gear all morning if I'm going for a post-lunch run. If i get properly dressed I'll use it as an excuse not to go!

I wouldn't wear it all day though. Mostly because I'm precious about my shoes and don't want to put any non-running miles on them.

stegosauruslady · 16/03/2018 15:09

Oh, and I agree that people wear far worse on the school run @sweetmonkeys. I did judge the lady this morning who was wearing emoji movie pjs to drop her DD at school. I mostly judged her taste in movies though.

whiskybysidedoor · 16/03/2018 15:28

I see lots of mums doing their active wear at our school pick up and drop off.

Without fail they always:-

A. stretch their legs whilst chatting in the most visible in the way part of the drop off area.

B. nonchalantly flash their tightly Lycra clad W’s with every single stretch.

It’s horrific if you’ve got a toddler at that eye level and are trying to get past. I call it the attack of the marauding W’s. I mean what else can you do?

MinnieMinchkin · 16/03/2018 15:32

I often don't bother getting changed after yoga, as I don't get that sweaty, but always change after running.

I'm dressed for yoga today, even though I didn't manage to get there this morning due to poorly child. Very comfy Grin

BeanFobbedOff · 16/03/2018 15:33
