Wearing gym clothes all day

I've noticed a lot of women near where I live seem to wear gym clothes a lot of the time. I'm not sure if they are on the way to the gym, or if they just dress like this.
I think it looks pretty cool, and tbh it would suit me to do this, as I like comfy clothes and it would probably motivate me to actually get to the gym at some point.

However is this akin to wearing your PJs to the supermarket?
Is it weird to wear the NY caps? Why do people do this?

Sorry if these are massively stupid question, but sometimes I feel like i'm living on the moon as people wear very different clothes to what i'm used to (ex city type, now living in an area with lots of full time mums).
Thank you!

@BeanFobbedOff I think it's camel toe. Not sure though.

sweetmonkeys · 16/03/2018 16:39

@stegosauruslady Ha! I'd judge her movie taste too.

I have athleisure type clothes from Sweaty Betty and Lululemon that I wouldn't wear to workout in but love throwing on at the weekends for comfort and because they look good e.g. sloppy sweatshirts/hoodies and leggings. Some of it is not designed for actual working out in at all, and some of it is aimed more at yoga/pilates (fabrics that aren't designed for getting really sweaty in, for example). I buy completely different stuff for actual sweaty workouts & running. Same with trainers. I have pairs that are more "fashion" than workout/running trainers.

W?? What?

I'd just laugh at someone stretching their legs dropping their munchkin off at nursery.

HangtheblessedDJ · 16/03/2018 22:30

It's not for me. Too try hard.
Just get a shower and get dressed after a workout.

CompleteAisling · 16/03/2018 22:44

It's not try hard at all. And the point is that they haven't been for a workout. [hmm

I think it looks shit. There's leisure wear, and there's dressing as if you've just got back from/are going to the gym. Which they aren't.

But then I am such a pedant about clothes I won't wear trainers except to go running.

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 17/03/2018 05:10

Maybe they're like me, put their gym wear on in the morning with the intention of going to the gym at some point
Then don't.

What I do love about gym wear - particularly gym leggings, is that they come in such fantastic patterns and designs and colours that you don't see in 'regular' clothes...
And, I think, seeing as they're skin-tight, they make you look slimmer than you do in regular outerwear like skinny jeans.
So it's not something I do, but I can understand the attraction and have been tempted to buy some fun leggings to wear inside or just out and about.

I think many people put gym clothes on in the morning for a class later in the day. Then do the school run, go to the supermarket etc. Nothing wrong with that.

I'm a PT so spend my life in gym wear. I'm sure people judge but it's my job. It's a bit more acceptable these days thankfully.

MaisieSpencer · 24/09/2019 08:45

As long as they’re not too revealing or too tight, I think they’re pretty decent to wear anywhere or even in public. I bought a couple of clothes from this ethical gym wear store, and I wear them when I go to our local grocery after working out.

Knowivedonewrong · 24/09/2019 10:07

I deputy manage an after school club so have to wear "active wear" as we do sport as part of our curriculum and the company I work for is all about sport.

NightWakings · 24/09/2019 14:17

I love my gym gear. It's just so comfy. I often dress in leggings and a hoody on my days off, sometimes in the vague hope of finding time to do a yoga dvd later in the day (which usually doesn't happen). It provides a mental marker between work and non-work days for me (and I'm fundamentally too lazy to pull together a "nice" dress down look - no make up and a pony tail fits in better with gym clothes).

PilatesPeach · 24/09/2019 15:32

I teach fitness classes and have a dog so am usually in my kit most of the time. Depending on what I am teach, I won't get sweaty so will leave it on if I need to pop to supermarket on way home or take the dog - he gets 3 walks a day. Nothing wrong with it as far as I'm concerned and far smarter than a tracksuit and more comfortable than jeans for me at least. It is not akin to wearing PJs in the supermarket! At least kit is meant for wearing outside the house and my kit is lovely and clean & smart.

Blueandredandblue · 24/09/2019 16:55

I wear my running gear if I'm going for a run. Otherwise rarely wear it.

onesmalldog · 22/05/2020 09:13

I really love it and have recently adopted the style after years of jeans, skirts or dresses. I still wear those things but I feel far more relaxed and more 'me' now wearing leisure wear. I don't know why that's happened. An oversize hoodie and a pair of leggings looks so cool.

PhoneLock · 22/05/2020 09:42

And, I think, seeing as they're skin-tight, they make you look slimmer than you do in regular outerwear like skinny jeans

I think I must have the wrong skinny jeans. Mine are all skin tight. I thought that was the point.
