Looks like another store with big problems ☹️

I reckon Primark's expansion has done for them.

toolazytobakeacake · 07/03/2018 17:53

They probably don't help themselves by usually having two branches in any biggish town centre. If they just cut it down to one per city (except possibly London which is effectively several cities rolled into one) they could save a fortune.

Blankscreen · 07/03/2018 17:57

I used to love New Look it was my go to. Their shoes were brillant that was about 5/6 years ago.

Now there shoes are either hooker high or baller flats and nothing in-between and most of their shops resemble a jumble sale.

They're not as cheap as primark but then not as nice as h and m or top shop.

I'm not surprised.

I wandered round debenhams the other day and tbh I'm amazed they are still going.

LaGattaNera · 07/03/2018 18:09

When they opened in 1993 I seem to recall, they were very fashionable but also really great low prices. Now they are not that cheap price wise for the quality you get. It's a shop I used to shop in until about 5 years ago and despite 2 in my town (1 is in retail park), it is just not on my radar. (I don't tend to go in DP's either).

mercurymaze · 07/03/2018 18:11

primark seems to have eaten alot of these smaller stores which is a shame

Tiddlywinks63 · 07/03/2018 18:14

My nearest New Look is scruffy and untidy, I never go in there now. I find Primark better quality.

Used to be great for shoes..haven't been able to spot anything I want for years really.

Loved them for maternity wear.

Nearlyadoctor · 07/03/2018 18:14

1993 ??? They were around when I was at school. As a teenager they were my go to shop and that was mid eighties. I think they've been around since the late 60's!

Redrosebelle · 07/03/2018 18:16

I do think this is a shame. I like their jeans and they are my go to place if I need a pair of shoes quickly and not too expensive. They have a lot of options. I hope this sorts out.. I can’t imagine not having a New Look!!!

autumncountryrose · 07/03/2018 18:22

New Look opened in 1969!

mickeymacca · 07/03/2018 18:24

I remember New Look opening in the 1990s. Very cheap and nice stuff now its too pricey. I only buy stuff in the sale

Fallulah · 07/03/2018 18:25

Like the flats for work but the plus size range has really gone downhill - so much shiny polyester and so many tent like items.
Recently revisited the DP and River Island plus ranges and they are much better.
Local ones are always messy and dirty so it's not a great place to be.

hubbabubbanightmare · 07/03/2018 18:26

I told DD to spend her Xmas voucher immediately - I don't think it has long left. HOF looking bleak too.....

hugoagogo · 07/03/2018 18:26

I used to shop there for me and dd, but I haven't seen anything nice for ages.

MadisonAvenue · 07/03/2018 18:32

New Look didn't come to my area until the 90s.

I used to buy a lot from there; in my town at that time it was a choice between Dorothy Perkins, M&Co or New Look. It always seemed reasonably priced and decent quality but quality has gone down and prices have gone up. I wouldn't like to see it go though.

Shen0102 · 07/03/2018 19:07

That's sad news! They're my go to shop for heels

Katescurios · 07/03/2018 19:11

Havent bought from there since they stopped stocking the plus size range in store. If I'm too fat to use their shops then they can just sod off.

Summerisdone · 07/03/2018 19:18

I'm not surprised about this. There used to be a big one in a town near me, and whilst new stores were opening (H&M, River Island) New Look just disappeared. It was there one week, exactly a week later and it was closed and nobody seemed to be expecting it either.
This was about 5 years ago.

It's prices aren't massively cheaper than River Island anymore, but it's quality is no better than Primark so people aren't bothering to shop there.

MsJuniper · 07/03/2018 19:26

In my first pregnancy (2012) they were one of the few places I could buy maternity clothes in store; plus they were reasonable quality for the price and a bit more interesting. Now sadly this is no longer the case. I guess they didn't feel it was worthwhile keeping the lines in store but it's a shame.

Agree that their shoes were a lot nicer then too.

NotTakenUsername · 07/03/2018 19:39

I was browsing in there about two months ago and came across this little number that made me genuinely laugh out loud. I was browsing alone. Blush

That was the day I realised I’m just not really New Look’s target audience any more... I just need a little more from my jumper than just sleeves.

New Look in trouble ☹️
LooksBetterWithAFilter · 07/03/2018 19:45

New Look was always my go to place for a night out or cheap heels could not tell you the last time I bought anything in there. I always trawl around as a last ditch attempt if I'm looking for a party outfit but there is never anything anymore, it has gone down in quality and up in price I'm not surprised it is struggling tbh. I don't suppose they are gutted to lose my custom though I think I am too old now to be there target demographic.

AccidentallyRunToWindsor · 07/03/2018 19:58

Ah that's a shame, I have a soft spot for the place as I worked there through college and uni.
I agree that they have far too many shops- there are 4 in my relativity small city and I rarely find things I like in there now.

purpleme12 · 07/03/2018 20:01

It really worries me all these places shutting down. I like new look. I prefer shopping in shops rather than online but especially for clothes. I'm wondering if there'll be anything left I like at this rate and what I'll do :-(

keiratwiceknightly · 07/03/2018 20:03

That's a pity. They are the best for tween girls (though you have to be selective as can be v inappropriate!)

nancy75 · 07/03/2018 20:04

Their shops are too big, their range is too many very similar things, their prices have increased whilst quality has got worse.
Most of their shops are untidy, difficult to find anything in & understaffed ( the staff I have seen also desperately require customer service training)
