If you are not stick thin, what do you wear to go to the gym?

Don't really fancy having my wobbly bits on display. Definitely don't think I could pull off leggings. Planning to listen to music on my phone so pockets would be handy too.

I buy nearly new high quality sports wear via EBay - people are always buying expensive stuff, wearing it once and selling it on. Second hand Sweaty Betty is terrific.

SuperBeagle · 05/03/2018 02:17

The Lululemon Align crop leggings are fantastic, if they're within your budget. Very thin, very soft material, but with a high waist band, and despite the thinness of the material, the quality of still there so everything gets held in place reasonably well.

Just wear them with a loose, long shirt.

No Gwenhwyfar Sports Direct is the big warehouse type places. Knock down prices.

Not convinced these days, yes the legend brands that they actually own now are cheap, but a lot if stuff is quite pricey and limited choice. I was really looking forward to ours opening, but have only bought a hockey stick bag! Had to go elsewhere for DD's football boots as they only had pricey brands.

BitOutOfPractice · 05/03/2018 15:34

I think if you go for something specific it can be limited but if you just go for a browse you can get a bargain if you know what I mean

LanguidLobster · 05/03/2018 15:50

Please don't use the term stick thin, it's abusive

lemonsandlimes123 · 05/03/2018 15:57

languidlobster - no it's not abusive and I guess you actually don't have any real understanding of the word abuse if you bandy it around in such a ridiculous way.

BitOutOfPractice · 05/03/2018 15:58

It's also been addressed already on the thread so...

LanguidLobster · 05/03/2018 16:25

lemons I've had to deal with that all my life, it is horrible.

dementedpixie · 05/03/2018 16:29

Bloody hell do people really pay £80 for leggings!?!

OCSockOrphanage · 05/03/2018 16:47

I have a tube skirt I pull on over leggings to go to/from classes, or cargo shorts, depending on colour of leggings.

Auspiciouspanda · 05/03/2018 17:21

I would love a pair a lu lus but I’m too fat right now ☹️

SmiledWithTheRisingSum · 06/03/2018 07:50

Size 18 here! M&S used to do nice gym stuff. I got a great pair of running trousers at Boden a few years ago - they are supportive so flattering. I wear a longer vest from H&M under the looser fitting gym t-shirt type top to cover my belly/ bum. H&M also do plus sized gym wear. Go for darker colours. And don't look at anyone else - they're all worried about what they look like anyway really not looking at you OP I promise! Grin

SwimmingInTheBlueLagoon · 06/03/2018 11:35

When I was heavier I used to wear thick joggers and tshirt and thought I was very unfit cos I struggled to keep up in classes. I know it sounds daft but investing in leggings, good sports bra and decent gym vests really helped my performance.
They hold the wobbly bits in so they don't hurt when you work out and great for sweat- don't make you overheat!

This with bells on. It is a lot tougher working out in joggers than leggings. I only found out because I bought leggings for yoga and they were so comfortable I tried them for a workout and found it much easier than normal. Exercise is much more enjoyable now.

So *op, just find the guts to not give a damn what you look like when you workout and get leggings. They will make workouts much nicer and hopefully help you stick with it. Plus in a gym everyone is there to work out so noone is going to notice what you wear and you can always take a change of clothes if your not comfortable about getting to and from the gym in leggings.

Dozer · 06/03/2018 11:40

Agree, the cooler one is when exercising the better, and joggers / cotton teas are too warm and cumbersome.

Just been for a very slow jog - a new thing for me - with an old bum bag / drinks holdet type thing from when DH went mountain trecking years ago. Has space for keys, phone, water-bottle. Looked a bit odd but having tunes and water and knowing I wasn’t going to drop keys helped a lot!

BitOutOfPractice · 06/03/2018 13:38

I saw this today and thought about you lot Grin

Thebluedog · 06/03/2018 13:42

Size 14/16, I wear leggings a sports bra (that looks like a tank top) with a large baggy tahirt over the top.

I was really self conscious about it when I started going to the gym but it became apparent, really quickly, no one gives a shit what you look like.

That made me laugh! Well I went to sign up on Monday and I'm going for my inductuon and first personal trainer session tomorrow. My Decathlon order arrived today and thanks to you lovely lot I now have a super comfy pair of leggings which were surprisingly cheap and are not see through (I did the squat test!), plus seem to be doing a great job at keeping the wobble under control! I didn't actually feel uncomfortable at all putting them on, so thanks again to you all. I also bought a new sports bra from Tescos which must be the most comfortable, most flattering bra I have ever owned! Oh, and the leggings have a couple of little zip pockets to keep my phone and keys in for now. Will definitely be looking into getting belt or bum bag soon. Really looking forward to tomorrow now Smile

Fantastic update :)

Was at the gym earlier and thought of this thread - hardly anyone wears jogging pants, my gym is a friendly one with people of all sizes and there's no judging at all.

Gwenhwyfar · 06/03/2018 20:35

Sports Direct is expensive where I live. I've looked and there was nothing cheap.

BIWI · 06/03/2018 22:49

Really?! What do you mean by expensive? And have you looked at site like Sweaty Betty, Lululemon, Fabletics, etc?!

There's nothing cheaper overall than Sports Direct, IMVHO!

SwimmingInTheBlueLagoon · 07/03/2018 20:27

BIWI - supermarkets can be cheaper than sports direct. I think sports direct is expensive if you normally buy supermarket clothes but very cheap if you normally buy premium brands like Sweaty Betty.

Gwenhwyfar · 07/03/2018 20:30

"There's nothing cheaper overall than Sports Direct, IMVHO!"

When I went into the Cardiff shop the leggings were about 25 pounds minimum, compared to 5 or 8 in Primark.

dementedpixie · 07/03/2018 20:33

I just bought some in Matalan today. Hope they pass the squat test!
