i htink linen trousers are lovely, but i just cant wear them. they increase in size as the day goes on, by 5pm you are almost having to walk around holding them up, and they get really really creased behind the knees

PeterAndreFanCLub · 03/05/2007 09:35

ah yes always get a tiny size

I bought some in Primark for £8 this week, didn't try them on as there was a q but thought at that price even if I just wear them at home it'd be ok. Actually they are brill - honest.

Tutter · 03/05/2007 09:38

linen trousers can be great

but beware drawstrings or elasticashun not a good look

ime the most flattering sit a bit lower and are tailored, with a zip (best of all, zip on side so no bulkiness at all) and no pockets

(fussy bugger, me)

i have a pair of m&s autograph ones from a few years ago that are bleedin wonderful

unfortunately too small for me now even in non-pg state

oliveoil · 03/05/2007 09:38

wide leg TopShop

Tutter · 03/05/2007 09:39

no side pockets i mean

(in fact, pockets on bum are essential for those of us flat-arsers)

sainsburys have some half decent ones in - and they come in various lengths.

NadineBaggott · 03/05/2007 09:52

finally, a style thread I'm interested in

I have some Next linen mix ones that are fine for dossing.

I've also got a Principles pair that are waiting to be taken up - I'm a short-arse. But horror, they are drawstring. Actually I don't think you're supposed to wear them drawn up but to fit my thunder thighs the waist is always massive

PeterAndreFanCLub · 03/05/2007 10:40

wide leg no good roem
dont hey generalyl tend to haev a floppy drawstirng look

oh have been meaning to share

I tried on high waisted jeans in topshop yesterday

they made my thighs look too fat so I didnt get them

but MY GOD they are so comfy

NadineBaggott · 03/05/2007 10:43

I think it'll go floppier when they've been washed the first time

I really must take them up!

I have ordered the white stuff ones but panicking they will be too short I got white

SoupDragon · 03/05/2007 10:47

Tie waisted, don't do it, they look like pyjama bottoms.

NadineBaggott · 03/05/2007 10:48

but they're so comfy

I quite like the pyjama look

Bink · 03/05/2007 10:53

I had some lovely ones from Principles about 5 years ago (PS am what John Lewis shopper adviser ladies politely call a "column" as in no waist whatsoever, & apparently Princ. is a good cut for the stolid among us) - they weren't wide though, they were more of a "cigarette" cut, with side zip & neat narrow ankles, of quite thick linen (so didn't at all do the haversack arse).

I wore them & wore them (ideal for summer at work in City) until one day I was checking back view in mirror & realised they had gone gossamer over the buttocks & were just teetering on the brink of rrrip. Lucky escape.

Anyway, I'd like some more.

NadineBaggott · 03/05/2007 10:54

that's my problem everywhere

I have a waist - like women should!

NotanOtter · 03/05/2007 10:56

soup they are not tie waisted that is just decoration - they are zip sided

Enid · 03/05/2007 11:22

top shop have some lovely looking white linen sailor style ones

must go back and try on

agree with no drawstring waist - looks awful on me

Pannacotta · 03/05/2007 11:24

Bink, thats interesting to know, as most mags/style articles don't mention women with no waist. I do like Principles and its good to know about the trouser cut as I often struggle to find things which fit my wide waist (have flat bum, not huge hips but relatively thick waist).
Did your Style adviser have any other tips?
Do wonder if linen trousers are the best cut for "columns"... have a feeling they are more suited to those with curves...
