I've been considering these . Does anyone have them? They're the only 'heavy' ones I could find. I had a pair like that form John Rocha and I absolutely loved them, really flattering, didn't lose shape, made me look so much slimmer. I'm desperate to find a replacement!

Saw the M&S autograph ones and they do look nice, but always sold out in my size

Tatties · 03/05/2007 11:32

I got some Florence & Fred ones from Tesco about 2 years ago and I am wearing them today! Also have some posh ones from Monsoon. I find the Tesco ones comfier

themoon66 · 03/05/2007 11:32

I saw some lovely ones in New Look, but discovered they were meant to be for blokes. I might go back and get them regardless anyway... they were black and came in longer length of 34 inside leg.

Pannacotta · 03/05/2007 11:36

Had an awful experience with Wrap, I would personally steer clear, also think you need to try linen trousers on, not order on line.
How about the Next linen blend ones as the mix tends to be more flattering than just linen...

Bink · 03/05/2007 11:46

Pannacotta, you do sound just like me re the waist/bum/hips proportion! Otherwise I have long neck, broad shoulders & small bust, so the shopper ladies put me in things like wrap-over cardies which look quite elegant if you have a fairly sculpty sort of torso but overall shapeliness is, er, lacking. I got a bright cherry-red wrap-over & dd (who is six and very with it) said encouragingly, "Mummy - you do look nice." (Nothing like being patronised by someone a metre high.)

yeahinaminute · 03/05/2007 11:53

I have these
cotton traders

So far so good - wash well, keep their shape, have a decent waistband the drawstring is there but the waistband fits properly IYSWIM

LaCerbiatta · 03/05/2007 11:55

What was your bad experience with wrap, Pannacotta?

The problem with Next for me is that they're never low waist enough. I have quite long legs and a tiny upper body so anything that sits higher than on my hips makes me look like a clown . The very low waist jeans from Gap look just like normal ones...

yeahinaminute · 03/05/2007 11:56

Oh and even better you have to buy a size smaller than you normally would - their clothes err on the "generous" !!

NadineBaggott · 03/05/2007 11:58

yes I like the cotton traders ones!

JackieNo · 03/05/2007 12:00

I like those cotton traders ones - they look good. I found a load on Littlewoods direct - good prices, and they come in loads of leg lengths. Might give them a try. I liked the look of the Wrap ones, and have bought from them before with no problems, but that was a few years ago, so interesting to hear of pannacotta's problems with them.

Pannacotta · 03/05/2007 12:01

Wrap prob was truly awful customer service, some problems with an order and had to keep chasing and chasing to get it sorted. Was so bad I wrote to them in the end but they sent a really snotty reply and no apology, so vowed never to shop there again...
Think the quality is bit dubious given the prices...

slalomsuki · 03/05/2007 12:02

M & S have some fab ones at the moment. I have bought some realy smart ones for a psoh party in a couple of weeks.

I have some cut off ones from Wallis that are comfy

yeahinaminute · 03/05/2007 12:03

And their cropped trousers are fab - great for walking the dogs, pootling on the beach etc - and I am no great fan of the cropped look - especially when teamed with my tubi - gripped left ankle !!!!

JackieNo · 03/05/2007 12:03

oh yes - M&S had some in a dark auberginey purple that looked nice.

PeterAndreFanCLub · 03/05/2007 12:23

ooh pannacotta nad bink

do we have a column-lady clique [excited]?

i too am long of neck, small of nork, thick (i.e. non-existent) of waist, narrow of hip, flat of arse and good of leg (that last one didn't work, did it)

as soon as i'm out of maternity gear i shall persue the trouser shelves of principles - thanks for the tip

Tutter · 03/05/2007 13:11

peruse

PetronellaPinkPants · 03/05/2007 13:14

Nicole Farhi ones are fab but rather expensive. Very thin linen that doesn't seem to crease so badly

Pannacotta · 03/05/2007 13:55

Tutter you could almost be describing me, though have to admit my neck not terribly long and hips not that narrow but def the same type...
Think I am bit more curvy than the average column but def wide of waist, flat of bum and good of leg!!
I don't know many women with this body type so nice to have bit of "column comradeship"!
Do find it quite hard to dress my figure (when not preggars).
Wonder if Bink can add any more tips for us from the style bod at Johhnie Lous...?

mckenzie · 03/05/2007 14:00

like Tatties I have some old ones from Florence and Fred that are lovely, hang nicely and give a great shape.
Nowadays, I buy them from River Island. They go in the washing machine and seem to give a good shape. I'm only little but my tall RL friend swears by them too (they come in three leg lengths I think)

Pannacotta · 03/05/2007 14:00

And Bink, don't you find that broad shoulders/small bust combo is a bit of a nightmare?
I struggle to look feminine/chic as my shoulders are pretty wide, even though am quite slim, and boobs not what I would call generous.
Do have some wrapover type things which are ok on me, but not so forgiving post baby....
And think what your DS said was v sweet, mine is far too young to notice as yet!

Bink · 03/05/2007 14:17

(am muttering slightly as don't really have the redeeming legs - not rubbish, just a bit capable & cabbage-kneed. However)

Bias-cut works really well (discovered that myself, but JL shopperlady recommended that too) - I love White Stuff's bias-cut linen skirts & sundresses - forgiving of waist. And actually specially good for just-post-pregnancy. Nice casual summer trousers too, but not a source of workwear.

Some French Connection is cut for the waistless - but recently their clothes seem to be very very small-cut overall so won't do for me. Great Plains, if you can find it? - FC's little sister. That can be good.

Pannacotta · 03/05/2007 14:22

Yes agree on Gt Plains, have found their things fit me well, esp the A line skirts.
I can't be as column as you Bink as I look pretty awful in bias cut anything, think my hips are too big - I am column as in not much waist but still have reasonable hips (depsite flat bum)...
oh well, thanks for the tips anwyay.
Did see a style adviser at both Cambridge and Norwich J Lewis but neither offered any advice re body shape or what styles to go for, which was a shame...

Tutter · 03/05/2007 14:24

am still here and furiously making notes

am surprised btw that wrappy tops are good

ime wrap dresses (maybe they're diff to tops?) just draw attention to the fact that i have No Waist
