Guess what size bra M&S suggested

My DD wears a size xs or 4/6 and 00 jeans. Guess what size bra M&S suggested for her?

I'd get measured by a specialist. They will also know which bras suit which shape, not just size. They only gave me 2 styles to choose from when I went in last year. I only liked the shape of one of them and have bought it in a few colours. I have tried self measure and ordering and it is time consuming and hit and miss IME.

Thanks for all the suggestions. We are huge Brastop fans in this household. I’ll have a look with DD2 - she’s after some simple tshirt style bras so hopefully we’ll find soem for her.

It’s interesting what someone has put above about band sizing. On the hollister website if you look at the size chart their 32 bras are 69cm which is ~27 inches. So I do wonder if some places aren’t helping with this because the band doesn’t equal the right number if inches.

Bravissimo are fantastic for getting the right fit and style for you. I travelled over 1.5hrs each way just to go to them. First bra they tried was fantastic. It fit like a glove, I couldn't even tell it was underwired and was the perfect shape for me (since DC I have weird boobs that look wide horizontally, but narrow vertically, giving a horrible pointy look in most bras). I now know that a correctly fitting moulded full cup gives me normal shaped boobs. The woman did bring other style cups but said she though the first would give the better fit and shape for me and she was right - when I tried on other types my boobs looked weirdly shaped again.

I can't get over how comfortable a properly fitting bra is. It's heaven. The band is tight and supportive, so the straps aren't having to hold my boobs up, yet I barely notice I'm wearing a bra. It's wonderful. I wish I'd gone sooner, it was definitely worth the travel.

time with 29 and 36 measurements, you would need a bigger cup than DD. If you try the bras on backwards, hooks under the boobs, are they closer to fastening?

PaperdollCartoon · 22/02/2018 11:13

@TimeIhadaNameChange do this calculator

booborbust.com

The issue is you probably need a bigger cup, not a larger band

Branleuse · 22/02/2018 12:44

time - id try a 30F

TimeIhadaNameChange · 22/02/2018 15:13

Katharina, Paperdoll and Branleuse thank you so much for your suggestions.

Katharina - that's how I put bras on anyway, and there was no chance in hell that I could have done either of them up. I'm pretty sure 4 inches is not an exaggeration.

I find it hard to believe I need a larger cup, as there really isn't anything to my breasts. Well there is, but not very much. They hang down a long way if I'm leaning over, but they're long and straggly like that, rather than full. Think U instead of a sideways C (as it were).

I'll try the Boob or Bust website this evening, and see what that suggests for me. The problem is I live in the Hebrides, so going somewhere to get measured is a trek rather than a quick pop up town, hence it being easier (in a way) to buy online.

Branleuse · 22/02/2018 15:52

boob or bust would put you at around 30F, its the same method they use.

I have almost the same measurements as you. Im 29 undr and 37 over and I usually wear a 30FF or a 30G.

Do you have a bravissimo close to you

Branleuse · 22/02/2018 15:55

places like bra stop and belle lingerie and bravissimo online do loads in that size and usually do free returns.

I find Freya bras very true to this sizing, if youre worried about brands fitting differently. Panache are usually quite good for consistency too as are bravissimos own brand

Curvy Kate can be hit and miss

PlanNumber · 22/02/2018 15:57

I wear a 34B from M&S. According to the experts here I should be 32C, but it's sooo uncomfortable

TimeIhadaNameChange · 22/02/2018 16:08

My nearest Bravissimo is 200 miles away! I might be going to Glasgow in a month or two and if I do I'll try and pop in then.

hairycoo · 22/02/2018 16:25

uugh m&s measured me as a 32a. Ending up buying a shite bra that was too loose and cut my boobs in half. Measured myself and came up 28e but have found that 30d or 30c fit best, depending on the make. Id also like to point out that 30d is not big, in fact i'd say im practically flat chested!

MyDcAreMarvel · 22/02/2018 16:31

My dd is a 28dd possibly 28e she is only 12. Does anybody know where I can buy age appropriate bras that actually fit for her.

mejon · 22/02/2018 19:00

This style in the M&S 'first bra' range comes in a 28DD www.marksandspencer.com/angel-sport-non-wired-full-cup-bra/p/p22455623?image=SD_02_T33_9100_Z0_X_EC_90&color=WHITE&prevPage=plp&pdpredirect. 11yo DD1 is wearing one - it's a little bit more substantial than the normal first bras which have very narrow straps and back bands and are quite uncomfortable according to DD.

MyDcAreMarvel · 22/02/2018 19:13

Thanks mejon , that bra looks perfect for her.

MipMipMip · 22/02/2018 23:10

mydc brastop again. You can order a load and send back the ones that are wrong. And they have good people to talk you through it. You do need to be able to recognise a good fit though.

AlbertaSimmons · 22/02/2018 23:22

Love these threads. I’m another M&S 34B, except I’m not, I’m a 30E Hmm. They’re just rubbish aren’t they?

MyDcAreMarvel · 23/02/2018 11:24

Thank MipMipMip my dd would prefer to try bras on at home. Will try bra stop in addition to the m and s one . I will fit the m and s one myself Grin

BoredOnMatLeave · 23/02/2018 11:32

M&S measured my mum a 40B. I measured her a 34D. Unbelievable.

bananafish81 · 23/02/2018 13:47

M&S told me I was a 34b

I was a 28DD

(smaller boobs now so I'm a 28D / 30C). Although I'm a 28 back I do actually wear a 30C as I can't find any styles that actually flatter me in a 28, I'm quite picky when it comes to bras, I have no volume up top so I need a proper plunge with a moulded cup.

I am most definitely NOT a 34b!

bananafish81 · 23/02/2018 13:50

I would recommend uniqlo non wired bras in a XS - they are insanely comfortable

Most high St brands are next to useless - Victoria's Secret didn't have anything smaller than a 32 whenever I've looked

I actually wear a Calvin Klein non wired 30C padded plunge, or the uniqlo non wired bras, as I couldn't find anything that flattered in a 28 back. Everything from Bravissimo looked horrific on me, hopefully others may have better luck! The 30C looks and feels great though

TimeIhadaNameChange · 24/02/2018 10:19

Well, I finally got round to measuring myself this morning and entered everything into the Boob or Bust website. They suggested a 28 F or FF so have ordered one in each size from Bravissimo and I’ll see how I get on with them. Will let you know.

VaguelyAware · 24/02/2018 10:33

MyDC - Bravissimo stock 28E (I'm usually that size!) Some lines come in white or nude coloured options. Several to choose from.

Sillybilly1234 · 24/02/2018 10:38

Go to Bravissimo and get a proper fitting.
