Clueless - colours for hazel eyes

Taranta · 16/02/2018 13:55

I have pale skin and hazel eyes, well they have a brown ring in the middle and are greenish yellow round the outside. And I just can't seem to work out what eyeshadow colours to wear. I've tried sort of gold/brown, purple tones, greens, nothing seems to make them 'pop'.
So if you have eyes like mine what are your go-to shades? Have you got any fab palette recommendations?? TIA

I have a lovely vibrant green from MAC which I put along the outside corners close to the lashes. Always get compliments

mnahmnah · 16/02/2018 13:59

I think it’s called ‘humid’

neveradullmoment99 · 16/02/2018 14:04

Brown is ok but not the best. I use a brown liner and neutral palette rather than just brown on its own. Purples/heather colours can be very good and bring the green out but not a purple liner at the bottom as I find it make my eyes look blood shot. Blue can also be good but can be a bit obvious. A smoky look - grey is great. Gold can look amazing but not great if you have crepey lids. However I on the otherhand have sallow skin and hazel eyes so maybe that makes a difference.

I've got similar eyes, maybe a bit more greenish than brown. I wear MAC Shroom across my eyelids and a dark grey, navy or black shadow along my outer lashes. I can't use any blue on my eyes other than navy. My favourite palette is an Estee Lauder one.

:)

Gold/brown ,or purple veering towards brown , so it's not too garish against paper skin

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 16/02/2018 14:09

Stills deep burgundy liner

Colette · 16/02/2018 14:09

Sorry meant to add, outline outer edges only.I think your choice of colours are good

mumblechum0 · 16/02/2018 14:09

I wear a lilac/purple which brings out the green in my eyes. I use Bare Minerals but cant remember what the shade is called.

Charlotte Tilbury Colour Chameleon eyeshadow pencils are great, there are 2 colour choices for each eye colour.

littlepeas · 16/02/2018 14:24

Mine are green/grey with a bit of golden brown around the pupil and a very dark grey outline around the iris - I'm fairly fair skinned and quite neutral (don't really fit criteria for warm or cool). I tend to favour gold and brown for eyeshadow, black eyeliner and mascara. My sister has similar eyes and favours purple!! I personally think green eyeshadow zaps all the green from hazel eyes, but others here seem to think differently.......suppose it is trial and error.

Taranta · 16/02/2018 14:44

Thanks all. Interesting you mention those CT colour chameleon pencils nong I do have the dark pearl one it's just a bit meh on.
I keep pondering the Charlotte Tilbury palettes and wondering if I might try the Vintage Vamp one which has a gold and some burgundy tones? I have got the VB for Estée Lauder palette which has a lovely cool burgundy in it...but then I'm thinking I'll just look really tired. As though I need the help what with having non sleeping DC 🙄

I was on the hunt for a navy eyeliner too - thought it might look a bit less harsh than my current black one...feel like I have to be looking perky to get away with it...

The colour chameleons can be very sparkly and dry out quite quickly so become unusable.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 16/02/2018 14:48

I like my Bobbi brown sapphire eye liner.

MrsRoyCropper · 16/02/2018 14:57

The only thing that makes my (grey) eyes pop is not the colours I wear on my eyes but the colour lipstick. When I wear coral shades it somehow makes my eyes stand out, keep to a fairly neutral brown or gold brown shade and plenty of black mascara.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 16/02/2018 14:59

I've always thought that too, littlepeas, the best 'pop out' colours for green eyes, or mine anyway, is navy or even the Bourjois purple with a neutral base across the lids.

Blue (not navy) and green eyeshadows would make me eyes brown and dull.

nong45 · 16/02/2018 15:02

I have the CT Smoky Emerald and Bronzed Garnet as I've got hazel/green eyes - I wear the bronze to work with the Eyes to Mesmerise Marie Antoinette as a base and the emerald for going out. I like the glittery -ness.

littlepeas · 16/02/2018 15:11

The main thing I've noticed with my eyes, over and above anything I've done with make up, is that I have grey eyes in photos that have been taken indoors and green eyes in photos taken outside! So I do think the light you're in potentially makes the most difference. Also, I teeter on the edge of dark blonde/light brown hair - the sun naturally bleaches it and it goes a lot darker in the winter months - people often comment on my eyes when my hair is darker, so I think that makes a difference too.

BetseyTrotwood · 16/02/2018 16:18

Have hazel eyes and it's greys for me or silver glitter grey liner.

That last pic is pretty much my eye colour neveradullmoment but can't seem to make greens look anything but trashy when I try them. I can carry off a bit of pink though, maybe I should try that...

I think to be fair, that is very much an evening look and I think they shade it with brown at both corners and arched part. I wouldn't wear colours during the day tbh. I tend to do neutral or smoky eye look with just a bit of eyeliner and a dark grey powder over the liner and blend it upwards to make it smudgy looking. I do similarly at the bottom but only at the outer corner and never past the pupil.

FuckyDucky · 16/02/2018 20:37

I love the CT bronzed garnet shade.
Urban Decay Naked Heat palette is amazing but I have a really bad reaction every time I use it. I’d never tried burnt/amber colours before I tried the UD but they are great on greeny eyes.
Just need to find a brand now which doesn’t make my eyes sore, red and puffy!

CastielIsMyAngel · 16/02/2018 21:14

Rode gold. I use Expensive Pink from MAC
