5yo brunette DD wants pink hair... how?

DD has asked to have pink hair over the summer holidays. She’s got brown hair with natural blonde streaks. Is there any way of doing this that doesn’t require bleaching first (I’m not prepared to do that).

You can get hair chalk or spray but they don’t last very long, Superdrug do quite a few & they are not expensive

UnimaginativeNameChange1 · 15/02/2018 21:10

A 5yo? Hair chalk. She can have different colours every day.

milkmoustache · 15/02/2018 21:10

Party shop, wig.

nancy75 · 15/02/2018 21:10

Pink stripes will be more achievable than full head of pink hair

ijustwannadance · 15/02/2018 21:11

You could just use a temporary coloured hair spray.

Or just dip dye the bottom few inches pink then cut it off before going back to school.

A 5yo "wants" pink hair

Of course this is a serious post

Mischa123 · 15/02/2018 21:17

I used purple on my8 yr old last summer, it wasn't too obvious but looked lovely. Her hair was brown and I don't think would have shown pink. My blonde daughter had pink purple and red and it took 6 months to get rid of the 8 wash colour!

Get her some clip in bits or get some chalks that wash straight out. She's 5.

YesItsADebate · 15/02/2018 21:42

Chalks are a good idea. Are they ridiculously messy? I used the blue spray stuff when I was a tween and it got everywhere!

AF she’s only little and it’s over the summer holidays. I don’t see any harm really.

5 yo and "pink hair"? Is this a joke?

In case it isn't, the answer is obviously "no". There are chalks, wigs, etc. Believe me, OP, if you say yes now, you will be completely stuffed when your DD is 15.

AnyFucker · 15/02/2018 21:52

Hey, get a dolly to play with if you insist on playing around with hair

I used to love my Girls World

Confused This is style & beauty, not AIBU. Stop being so very rude.

Thankyou for the advice from other posters.

You say "DD, you can't have pink hair. When you're 18 you can have your hair however you'd like. Let's go to the park".
My DD loves nothing more than playing with hair - I let her cut mine - but she also wants to fly to the moon and be a zoo keeper. I told her that time can wait and so can she.
Letting your DD have pink hair at 5 is a nonsense. Get her a wig from Poundland or Amazon. Or, say "no".

AnyFucker · 15/02/2018 22:17

And you are her parent not her mate

Badhairday1001 · 15/02/2018 22:21

I don't see any harm in it at all. Unfortunately I don't have any ideas about how you could achieve it without bleach. My daughters hair is jet black and she has some clip in coloured hair from Claire's that she loves.

Frequency · 15/02/2018 22:24

Pink is not gonna work on dark hair unless you're going down the Crazy Colour/Directions route which I wouldn't recommend on a child that young as they can sometimes stay longer than expected.

My youngest has dark hair, I find greens, blues and purples show up best but we do use Directions. At the end of the day, it is a harmless vegetable dye not poison. That said, the green had a crazy amount of staying power. The purple and blues washed out fairly easily.

Chalks aren't messy, just wear gloves when you're applying it.

LemonysSnicket · 15/02/2018 22:39

Jesus ...
It’s pink hair not a tattoo and a motorbike!

Freedom of expression and creative experimentalism are not going to make her DD a deviant!

AnyFucker · 15/02/2018 22:41

It's not the 5yo's "creative experimenting" though is it...it's her mummy playing dollies

Frequency · 15/02/2018 22:45

Are we not believing the 5yo asked for it/wants it? I find that a bit disingenuous. Every single five year old girl I know and a hefty handful of the boys have wanted pink/rainbow/glitter hair at some point.

Op is not suggesting dipping her child in a bucket of hydrogen peroxide.

Elvisola · 15/02/2018 22:45

My 9 year old wanted pink hair over the summer holidays. I used Swarzkoph Be Live
in pink and it worked well with her dirty blonde hair. I also did her friend who had dark brown hair and it was more burgundy but still liked great

AnyFucker · 15/02/2018 22:47

Some of you folk need to brush up on your child development

Badhairday1001 · 15/02/2018 22:47

Why do you think that AnyFucker? Five year olds have minds of their own. Mine knows exactly how she wants her hair every morning and it's certainly not me that encourages the daily hair faff.

TittyGolightly · 15/02/2018 22:49

I used Swarzkoph Be Live
in pink and it worked well

That stuff is fucking awful for hair. It properly penetrates the hair shaft which means anything done to it later will have that shit chucked back out until it’s grown out and cut off.

Have a google. I wouldn’t put it near a child.
