WWW's six week 10 year younger boot camp, all welcome, WEEK FIVE

Week 5 of the third boot camp of 2007, everyone is welcome.

The rules (anyone can join):

This is about feeling better about yourself...not necessarily a diet per se etc etc

  • Sunscreen at all times. I know it's winter, there are still rays trying to damage your skin
  • No or little booze. Wine at the weekend is allowed if you want it
  • Walking is important, a small amount every day if possible. 30 mins if you can
  • Lots of water, aim for 2 litres a day
  • Apply body cream as often as possible
  • Use hand cream
  • Go to bed early, by 10.30pm if pos
  • Eat healthily
  • Be happy

The idea is that at the end of six weeks we all feel happier, healthier and glow with the good food, sleep, exercise, water and lack of sun damage.

Hello!

Feetheart, that night time waking is a killer isn't it, knackers me even remembering it. Ah at pink pudding, although it sounds revolting I can imagine the memories

Prufrock, oooh, oooh, that looks gorgeous too. Hmm, Reading or The Caribbean? Let me seeeeeee... But since you first recommended The Forbury (and sent me a cutting AGES ago) I do think you should go if it's good, I will report back.

Sobernow, you want to drag that husband of yours off to Hotel du vin in Bristol or something, they do rooms for £120 odd a night at weekends, very nice. And the waterfront is all romantic...

yoyo, no, we're not celebrating anything, I just decided we needed some Romance in our lives. We pretty much intend NOT leaving the room except maybe briefly to go and see Pirates of the Caribbean 3 and maybe a boozy lunch in a dim wine bar I can't wait.

Batters, ha ha, gosh that sounds gorgeous, wow, what a lovely evening! SPF40, very very good. My eyes are dry and wrinkly today...

Did you all like my card? Hmm?

MT, a FLAT STOMACH, OMG! Wow, serious, serious Mine is vile and pregnant looking (I'm not, haven't been for nearly 4 bloody years so it's not even an excuse)

Marina, lol at 'angry little troll' I couldn't work out how to turn the pedometer yesterday so haven't used it yet but must get dh to show me the blindingly obvious later. Where do you all keep yours? I don't want to display it but don't have pockets, is it in your knickers or something?!

MI, 60, 60, 60, blimey, I keep thinking that's got to be a typo but I fear not

Iota, well done on swimming.

Well, middling day for me

ran out of granola so 2 pieces toast with olive spread and marmite
2 apples
a huge salad with a sardines (180cal), a red pepper, tomatoes, capers, and salad dressing (prob 200 cal worth)
and I am STARVING. We've just been to see a house and Tesco shop not coming til later so dh has just gone to collect a tandoori chicken for me and a lamb tawa gost for him and also, wine. I need it, had mildly stressful day at work, where I am sometimes surrounded by wankers. But hey, I work with a lot of very nice people too and we laughed about the wankers so it could have been worse.
loads of water
walked, well, ambled really for 30 mins at lunchtime
wore sunscreen
was asleep by 11pm last night

But I look like crap, my skin is terrible, and I feel knackered.

And we have 24, Desperate Housewives and Heroes to watch, happy day!

OP posts:
Marina · 01/05/2007 20:24

WWW, mine nestles on my bra strap under my top. I feel a bit self-conscious sporting mine too
Sorry you had such a knackering time at work. I am determined to shift weight and scrub up so I can plan my exit strategy from mine. I think you deserve that chicken tandoori (is now the time to report on a luncheon of cottage cheese and fruit and a seafood salad with avocado for dinner )
Well done to all the boot camp mermaids!
And am still and very [happy] for these couples who get away for romantic trysts. Dh and I sat grinning like fools over a snatched work noodle lunch last week - 55 whole mins of not being subjected to children rummaging through their plates to detect and remove mushrooms/grapes/tomatoes/chicken, or having to listen to Dr Who conspiracy theories or willy jokes
We do get a four hour ausweis to go to the theatre next week to celebrate 20 years of...well..."going out" together. Fat bloody chance these days

I've been good all day (sit ups before breakfast, advocado salad, NO cakes at the pre-school teatime, even though I'd baked carrot cake, choc brownies and lemon drizzle, tabouleh and griddled chicken) but am now sitting here with a glass of wine

But dh is away for 2nd night, I don't want to go to the gym because I can't have a steam afterwards as decorators have just repainted bathroom and I have loads of housework to do that I just can't be bothered with. So yah boo sucks to being good.

Sorry about wankers www - maybe you shold be a SAHM again and then you wouldn't have to deal with them? But then you wouldn't get to deal with adults either.....

Exit strategy form work Marina? Do you have plans? And why do they involve having a flat stomach. Lovely looking as you are I do think you are a little past posing semi-naked , and far too principled to do such a thing

Can I say that chocolate flapjack, however politically correct its ingredients (that was fair-traded cocoa, you know) is not the best idea to make for one's children mid-day, as it sits in the kitchen alluringly all afternoon . Then I ate rather too much (delicious) supper too.

I genuinely don't quite know what I'd do on a romantic night out with Mr Inferior.

yoyo · 01/05/2007 21:05

Oh, I am very envious of your romantic nights away too. Dh and I rarely do things that aren't associated with socialising with friends or are work related. It must be wonderful to go out and not have to think about getting back for the babysitter. Make the most of that room WWW!!

Good day for me. Pilates and some walking. Eaten healthily and as yet no wine. Am going to hop in the bath soon with the intention of getting to bed early.

iota · 01/05/2007 21:14

I admit to being a pedometer novice, but mine says that you have to wear it on one side, over your leg so that it can measure your steps - I attach mine to the waistband of my clothes

In fact I don't wear it any more - I got bored with it after a few weeks

WideWebWitch · 02/05/2007 06:33

Morning all.
I feel a bit rubbish due to drinking wine last night and because although I was asleep by 11, dd woke up at 3am and came in with me and then wriggled and made noise and stuff and then I woke at 5.30 and 5.55, and decided I might as well get up.

Marina, what does your exit strategy involve? Sorry your work is less than ideal too. What a healthy day food wise though. 20 years, wow! That really deserves celebration.

Batters, hmm, yes, that penny dropping for me too. I keep thinking 'eat less, exercise more, simple innit?' Yes, was a house for PILS and us but it was right on the edge of a v busy road so no, not the right place.

Prufrock, no way could I be a sahm again, no way, def not. But I have compressed working and get Fridays off while being paid a ft salary, I do 35 hours in 4 days. And my job isn't stressful a lot of the time so I shouldn't moan really. On discovering that Kensington High St was my old lunch time haunt my boss did ask me yesterday how I went from an office of my own in a glam company in west London to working with wankers in Milton Keynes (she agrees about the wankers, I like her)

And I am having lunch with Iota today, which will be nice as we've never met.

Oh have a lovely lunch you too. Isn't it exciting when two mumsnetters meet for the first time? Like a first date!

I didn't exercise yesterday but will have that as my rest day.

Brekkie - two slices multigrain toast, low fat spread and a cup of tea

am off to two 2k with sunscreen

Marina · 02/05/2007 09:25

"Wriggled and made noises and stuff" - sounds like dh www - sorry you had a bad night! Work is fine, actually, it's just not very flexible
I can second redbush batters, it is deliciously malty and can be drunk with milk like actual tea tea, or with lemon etc. We are total converts. Tick Tock is a good brand sold by Ocado, we don't like the Dragonfly so much.
Iota, I can imagine how people might go off the pedometer thing - I was deterred by my old one because of having to wear it on a leg or waistband...hmm, tres pratique. The one recommended by batters does work when tucked in a bag, breast-pocket or worn round the neck. You do pay for that functionality I think, it is more expensive than the norm.
For me it has provided clear, tangible proof that my extra walk will pay dividends - it calculates how far you've walked - but also how much of this is aerobic activity. I did 13,000 steps yesterday, half aerobic. As I need to lose weight and get fit, and just do not have the time to go swimming or to the gym, it's a great help . But I bet you are slimmer than me and have a healthier lifestyle to start with!
Prufrock - so you don't think my idea to go into burlesque - the Notorious Marina Page - is wise then? I'm so hurt, I'm going to set Gok Kwan on you you meanie
Wishing everyone a good day, with happiness top of the list!

Marina · 02/05/2007 09:25

Oh, have a lovely lunch both of you

feetheart · 02/05/2007 10:33

MI - there seems to be a bit of a flapjack weakness on this thread! I have some yummy fruity stuff calling to me from the kitchen right now. (whispers quietly - can I have the chocolate flapjack recipe please?)

OK day yesterday with lotions and potions and I think I'm getting better with the water but have a way to go to get 2 litres in! In bed by 10.30 (lights out by 11pm!) but DS up with the larks at 5.40am so not feeling quite as bright-eyed as I should!

More walking to and from pre-school today but will probably be cancelled out because I have to make cookies as have hordes of small children coming round this afternoon in another attempt to get DC to catch chicken pox!

Have a nice lunch.

foxinsocks · 02/05/2007 11:01

Have been avoiding this thread as I've been very Bad but will make up for it. Did go for a run yesterday (a very very short run) and am paying the price for it today (ooh my aching bones).

Have made an orange drizzle cake and it's nearly finished arrghh - WHERE did it all go!

marina, I noticed they have started advertising for the new series of our friend in the black-out blind. I imagine it will be on bbc1 in the next week or so.

All you SE london lot, do you know if that Greenwich Arts and Craft market is open on a Bank Holiday?

foxinsocks · 02/05/2007 11:02

oh and I too love rooibos tea. In fact, I was practically bought up on it - we used to be given it in breaktime at school in South Africa! I have it with milk (and sugar ahem). It's my favourite hot drink since I cut out tea and coffee (after going off them in pregnancy).

Marina · 02/05/2007 11:10

I am quite up to the way of the warrior in my new power-walking mode FIS
Not sure about the market but I'd guess almost certainly yes
In the heady days of having a life and living in an attractive part of London I am SURE we went there on bank holidays

Enid · 02/05/2007 11:13

oh i rEALLY WANT to like redbush tea

am tea ADDICT

oh batters, sorry, it's Raven - it's a sort of fantasty style game show for children (think 'it's a knock-out' crossed with Crystal Maze and held in some outward bound centre in Scotland with children dressed like Roman slaves....). I know it sounds odd but it's peculiarly addictive - my children LOVE it (as ahem does the adult watching with them). The warriors (as they are known) have 9 lives and lose them over the course of the show - they do challenges and can gain rings which give them back lives. It's held over a number of weeks and the winner is the Ultimate Warrior.

foxinsocks · 02/05/2007 11:56

one of the very few programmes on TV where the children actually compete and can win and lose rather than fluffy stuff iyswim!

motherinferior · 02/05/2007 12:00

I am feeling slightly glum today - must bog off and continue with deadline - but my MN meetup of the day is with Fennel, tonight (I've met her before) and may involve Very Good Chips . I find this heartening. Feetheart - and anyone else - do CAT me for the recipe.

iota · 02/05/2007 16:15

another bad day for me - people just keep leading me astray.

lunch was good - well the company was good , the food was mediocre.

no exercise, too much coffee, and one of the kid's ice-creams ( galaxy vanilla bar since you ask)

last night dh gave me a glass of wine whilst I was MNing - and I absent-mindedly drank it.

does anyone have any spare will-power that I can have?

iota · 02/05/2007 16:17

oh forgot to add that my pedometer was a v cheap one from ebay
