New thread for those hoping to add a bit of Parisian je ne sais quoi and je m'en fous to their style.

It's lovely Auld and, unlike your house, you can take it with you anywhere you go Smile

botemp · 07/03/2018 08:46

I echo your lamentations Sock, Shu Uemura removed themselves entirely out of Europe and over here with absolutely no notice. From one day to the next the shop was closed with a sign explaining nothing, the poor staff didn't know what was going on or whether they needed to come in or not. I do really love their red lipsticks though. Oh and their Sublim8 cleansing oil is the best cleansing oil I've ever used, even though I hated the fragrance, it was fantastic but stupidly expensive, but a little went a long way.

See attached for how much I love my Surratt Grisaille, Proper Halo I really use it as a sculpting powder though, only on the edges on the face and not the full contour, I only go as far as the outer tail which just lifts the cheekbones but doesn't make you go all skeleton face.

I saw your trench yesterday, midlife, couldn't take pics as the shop assistant was being very hard on the sell. It was a really nice fit but it was quite thin, which makes sense for the season but it lacked that rough suede quality for me.

Oh Auld, I'm sure if you apply for Papal dispensation and show off that bargainous wool jacket all will be forgiven. Are there no internet giants selling paint in France, they've significantly reduced prices here mostly by selling trade paint to consumers which is better quality anyhow.

I've also attached some more green and wide leg porn, eBay is frazzled and is showing me new listings in countries that don't ship internationally Confused didn't stop me from drooling over these Celine pants.

*outer tail of my eyebrows that should read, I don't have a fancy moustache...

OCSockOrphanage · 07/03/2018 10:09

The small tan leather tote arrived from the US e-bay site; VAT was £17 so I am not too upset, especially as it is absolutely pristine, without a single mark inside or out despite the powder blue suede lining. I don't think it has ever been used.

Quite a few Japanese cosmetic companies seem to have withdrawn from Europe in general, which is odd given the interest in the products and the love they inspire. Shu Uemura also had the best nude lipsticks; there was one for every skin tone, and it was possible to get a perfect foundation for my olive skin, when Western brands were still very pink toned before I forswore foundation altogether (discovered Kanebo sheer "sport creme" which one can only buy in Harrods now).

Thebirthdayparty · 07/03/2018 11:29

I ADORE those green trousers!

ProperLavs · 07/03/2018 16:59

bo I know it gets a lot of love. I'm very glad you have't got a fancy moustache!

MidLifeCrisis2017 · 07/03/2018 17:00

Hmmm Bo, I've already been persuaded by my DD who works in fashion and is normally v dismissive of my taste, that it's a classic and I must have it. Worried now about it being thin at that price, which would make it the most expensive piece of clothing I'd ever owned. I won't see it in the flesh till next week, always a mistake to fall in love virtually!

AuldAlliance · 07/03/2018 19:45

whataboutbob this and its refs to the Salon de l'Agriculture made me think of you:

Have you seen La Vache? Great family film...

Those green trousers are amazing. Not sure I have the lifestyle for them, but hope someone else will buy them and post some pics...

OCSockOrphanage · 07/03/2018 20:09

It looks pretty gloriously classic, and tres chic, but are you certain your DD doesn't have an ulterior motive for encouraging you, Midlife? It has been known for clever daughters to egg on their mums, thinking "it would be useful to borrow that!" I would have done, not that my DM bought anything so fabulous.

ToElleWithIt · 07/03/2018 20:28

Stop with the green. You’re killing me! I want that coat so badly, not to mention the trousers.. can we go back to yellow? It doesn’t suit me so it’s much less tempting.

I wish we got more Japanese make up over here. The liquid eyeliners are generally amazing.

Thebirthdayparty · 07/03/2018 20:33

I like the boat too. I wonder if it is thin so it falls a certain way? If it was too heavy, it would be difficult to tie it.? My waist is not defined enough to wear belted coats Meghan Markle style but it really is lovely. It also becomes more a summer season coat if it is very thin and it is quite autumnal looking. It depends on your climate.

I had a blazer style suade jacket in that colour many years ago. My sister took it abroad, decided she didn’t really want it and threw it away. I actually cried tears at the time.

Thebirthdayparty · 07/03/2018 20:34

Coat not boat!

botemp · 07/03/2018 20:36

I may have sounded a bit harsh, Midlife, and I'm also comparing it to coats 4x the price of the MD one. Thing is the thin material did mean it's more versatile weather wise (actually wearable in spring, cool summer nights, and with a warmer layer in autumn) and that it's not too heavy which means it hangs off the body without bulk. It is the type of silhouette and cut that suits me really well so it was a really flattering fit. I think it should have been €50 cheaper though, I'd want it to be one of those rare high street gems that looks more money than it costs but it looks about the money it's asking.

Oh and I definitely did what Sock suggested, I got my mother to buy things that didn't really suit her but would be great on me all the time Blush

And since I'm confessing... I passed by TKMaxx.... Ehm bad idea, came away with a gorgeous drapey asymmetric navy top from Balmain and a basic Isabel Marant white racerback vest. Figured I had papal dispensation as the vest fit perfectly everywhere and that's really rare these days, I usually have a bit of extra fabric even in very fitted pieces and it's a basic staple that I was missing. I'm still a little undecided on the Balmain top as it makes me very thin looking around the collar bones and arms, in my eyes anyhow, but I need to wrap my head around that and just accept that's a part of me too these days.

To redeem myself somewhat, Caroline de Maigret at Paris fashion week has reminded me to dig out my cape as it hasn't gotten much wear this winter. Hat needs to be pulled from a high shelf too. Unfortunately, I have no red outfit to go underneath but I'll have a play and see what I've got in the wardrobe. Maybe I'll go all white or beige or something neutral like that.

Papal dispensation is a very, very sinful, cunning idea, bo

MidLifeCrisis2017 · 07/03/2018 21:31

@OCSockOrphanage DD1 is 3 stone lighter and two sizes smaller than me! She also only wears black and white. When I visit her in London I get texts saying "no beige please" and "don't wear Boden"! To think she thought I was the epitome of chic until she was 15.

What I like about MD is they are selling a lifestyle I hanker after and have just started to achieve through my job. Very European city break for people who never get rained on.

botemp · 07/03/2018 21:37

Interesting, in my mind MD is very much a ladies who lunch brand.

Madamfrog · 07/03/2018 21:38

@Auldalliance excellent jacket and it is such a bonne affaire !

MidLifeCrisis2017 · 07/03/2018 21:43

Bo, I only wish I were....that's regarded as a career round here!

botemp · 07/03/2018 21:52

I was called a lady today (in English), didn't quite know what to make of that Confused

AuldAlliance · 07/03/2018 21:59

If that MD jacket fits and is worth the €, I'd like it to to be known that I'll wear it to work, not to lunch.

OP posts:
botemp · 07/03/2018 22:06

Great, so I'm going to be a lady who lunches on her own then?

MidLifeCrisis2017 · 07/03/2018 22:57

We need a Parisian as a Sainsbury's Baguette meetup!

Thebirthdayparty · 07/03/2018 23:33

I'm unsure if these images can be opened but would any of you 'ladies' Smile tell me how somebody could wear this top if they are large chested 34DD. I really love it but I don't suppose it is possible .

OCSockOrphanage · 08/03/2018 09:48

Those tops are strictly the territory of the flat-chested or the young and pert! Experience has taught me to pass those by quickly on the hangers. Nothing without room for a sturdy soutien-gorge.

OCSockOrphanage · 08/03/2018 10:10

Why do fashionistas all wear only black and-or white, MidlLife? A nephew's GF is the same (and she makes us all look like heffalumps). All delusions of being chic and soignée fly out of the window when she's around.

Where is lunch to be then, Bo? Paris, obviously!
