New thread for those hoping to add a bit of Parisian je ne sais quoi and je m'en fous to their style.

That sounds so cool but it must be good quality linen if it doesn't wilt in the heat. It gives me the rage every summer when the UK shops try and fob off middle aged women with saggy arsed linen trousers.

I know I'm lucky in that I've always been naturally slim but I have to be far more disciplined these days - and buy better underwear. It'll be a cold day in hell before I give up the choc though.

ToElleWithIt · 05/03/2018 09:04

Coat wish list: suede safari jacket, Western blanket coat, that Green Raey coat (or a mumsnet timeshare in it!). It’s the shade of the green coat that gets me, a multi-tonal (or maybe just the texture giving that effect) emerald that would be a great colour on me…..dreams on.

Still mulling over Western boots and I may pull the trigger on some. The Mango ones are sold out in my size unfortunately.

I do always wonder about those pool inflatable selfie shots. I always presume that at the other side of the camera are a bunch of families looking on in askance as some blogger hogs the blow-up flamingo. I’m really tempted to get that J crew one, price is good and style is right for what I’m after. I have a more plunging swimsuit already for lounging in !

Flosime your summer wardrobe sounds super stylish

ProperLavs I love that your waistcoat showed up on the catwalk! Interesting SH article. I agree with you that it is a time saver too. My morning make-up is really down to a bit of foundation, eyeliner, mascara and lipstick which is a reduction for me. I sometimes pop a bit of Benefit Lemon-Aid on my lids. It’s a weird yellow cream eyeshadow, but it just evens out the tone over my lids and makes me look rested. It sounds weird, but I wear it’s brilliant. Although probably only if you have yellow undertones like me? Anyone else got any hero make-up products?

botemp I love the Studio trousers on you. What a great look! I had a look at the range online and I love the look of the green skirt. It reminds me a bit of a tie-dye Altuzarra dress that I lusted after. Sadly it’s sold out online and our flagship store will not be stocking the studio line. I like that Isabel Marant show and in particular the first coat. It’s very much tried and tested looks from her, both in terms of the Americana and the 80s party dresses, but I still love the casual stuff including this skirt outfit. The dresses I could take or leave. Don’t tempt me on the Antwerp sales .. probably best I leave it for next year though. We have an extension to fund this year…

Thanks Elle - it took me a while to figure it out but it works really well (for the moment) and, with the odd tweak, it takes me to most places, smart or casual. I quite like the simplicity of it too, just for a few weeks of the year.

Watch out, I'll be doing capsule wardrobes next Grin

OCSockOrphanage · 05/03/2018 10:17

Happy to join in the Lenten fashion fast as I have blown my S/S18 budget early. Apart from odd colour pop items that will probably come from my vintage market stall if anything strikes me, I am sorted for this summer, whatever the weather.

Being the same age as Flo, and apparently a similar shape, agree that it takes a modicum of restraint to achieve la ligne Francaise in one's advancing years. SockDog is my personal trainer, with Pilates mat work and some weight training for the arms.

The red lipstick article was spot on, and no expenditure needed as I have a drawerful of lipsticks in shades varying from true red, to brick prinks, to orange which work when you have a grey pixie and blue eyes.

botemp · 05/03/2018 10:39

I was reading an article a while back (a somewhat scientific one) that was discussing how for weight loss and management diet is far more essential than exercise, the impact of it is almost negligible if you look at it from a wider perspective. However, it sort of alters once you hit middle age as you lose muscle tone far more easily and have a lowering basal metabolism rate in that sense aerobic exercise isn't that great (still good just not ideal) and that resistance training is the thing to pursue.

Elle, there hardly was any women's wear from the studio collection that interested me in the shop. Which was probably a good thing. I love the look of that skirt, I think Prada did something similar as well at some point, possibly more 50s voluminous skirt in style. The Mango boots are quite small, a 39, which is about a size bigger for me, only just fit. They're very popular at the moment KarenBritChick featured them in a video and then I got a whole host of suggested videos featuring it too. I may have a better look at the Ganni ones she compares them to as they're not as tall in the shaft.

As for Antwerp, just bring along some floor plans and I can advise you in official capacity, I've designed plenty of extensions after all, and you can just write the whole trip off as extension costs Grin

How is sockdog btw, is he still refusing to adapt a French air?

Floisme · 05/03/2018 11:13

I hope some people are still buying - I like looking at nice things!

Yes, even though I'm still fairly slim, I'm losing muscle tone. My problem is that any kind of organised exercise bores the stuffing out of me. I'd rather build it into my everyday life, which is fine at the moment as I walk to and from work etc but when I retire, I'll have to figure out how to replace that. I also had one of those MOTs when I turned 60 and the nurse said my activity levels were fine but that I should look into doing more strengthening exercise - or something, Needless to say, i haven't got round to it Blush

OCSockOrphanage · 05/03/2018 13:59

SockDog va bien, merci Bo, mais elle est une vrai petite paysanne. A (Quebecois) lumberjack in hunter-gatherer dog form... she is very fond of carrying long branches and chasing deer.

Loving the timeshare coat and the emerald skirt, Elle.

botemp · 05/03/2018 14:22

Ooh timeshare coat + skirt could possibly be good together... Is this what our fashion lent looks like now, imaginary purchases? I may just dig up things from 90s movies as there's no way I can actually buy any of it.

Sorry for misgendering SockDog, Sock, I think that's the second time now Blush

Flo, I think the most sensible thing for you is to visit a by the kilo sale at least 3x a week in lieu of actual weight training Grin

As for my low maintenance red lip look, I hardly ever wear base, so it's usually Sisley concealer on eyelids and undereyes, a dab around the nostrils if it's cold out. Currently like a matte red lip best this time of year (Shu Uemura a true red), curl upper eyelashes, Kiko beige eyeliner on inner bottom rim, then some Eyeko skinny mascara on bottom lashes (tops stay bare). If I can be bothered I'll do a bit of sculpting powder around the edges from Surratt.

OCSockOrphanage · 05/03/2018 14:25

handbag pictures for your diversion and delectation productivity busting.

OCSockOrphanage · 05/03/2018 14:28

and a little tribute to red lipstick

OCSockOrphanage · 05/03/2018 14:31

Lamentations! Shu Uemura is no longer sold in Liberty, and that was the only UK stockist for the cosmetics, but (please) prove me wrong.

ProperLavs · 05/03/2018 14:43

bo I wanted to try the Surratt, but it was all sold out everywhere when I was looking so I went for the Kevyn Aucoin one. I like it a lot. I don't use it often though as my face is bony enough as it is and I'm worried about looking skull-like.

I have just ordered a rather expensive Korean first-oily cleanser though. I only use Korean cleansers; they really suit my face and help keep my skin clear. Sorry, not at all french Blush

MidLifeCrisis2017 · 05/03/2018 17:51

@OCSockOrphanage some beautiful bags there.

Trench porn - another Spain trip next week and desperate to try this

CatherineMaitland · 05/03/2018 18:17

I've been lusting after several Massimo Dutti coats, too - there's a black free-flowing trench I really like the look of, and a shorter suede one. Some nice-looking skirts too.

AuldAlliance · 05/03/2018 18:28

Merde.
I've now looked at the M. Dutti website and really, really want this

Et merde.

Where were you all to talk me out of it?
I've ordered the flipping thing now.
Paint is so pricy here, I tell myself, that that jacket''s not even as expensive as a single pot of emulsion.
Not sure it makes anything better or worse, really.
But my house still looks old and flaky...though I can waft through it in all my forest green clobber, and hope no-one notices the peeling walls and 30-yr-old paint, because they'll be looking at my nice wool jacket.
I know, I know, delusion reigns supreme ici

CatherineMaitland · 05/03/2018 20:18

I was just thinking how lovely it was myself, Auld...

OCSockOrphanage · 05/03/2018 20:18

French paint is eye-wateringly cher, Auld, and nasty thin watery expensive stuff to boot. There is stuff that's better in Blighty! The jacket is lovely; you will look and feel tres chic.

AuldAlliance · 05/03/2018 20:52
Smile I'll let you know whether it's nice or not. And 100% is better than watery paint any day...

quirkychick · 05/03/2018 21:06

Omg, gorgeous jacket, AuldA.

ProperLavs · 05/03/2018 21:39

Oh that jacket is really beautiful. I hope it is as good as it looks! Much better than paint any day of the week!

AuldAlliance · 05/03/2018 21:48

Ach, you're all so lovely and enabling.
I'll be sure to let you know how nice it is once it's arrived.

Lovely jacket AuldAlliance and a good price! You'll get loads of wear out of that.
