I would like just sometimes to go more than a day between washes. I'm 38. If anything it's got worse recently.

Any wisdom?

Due to illness I wasn't able to wash my hair for a few months. It still was greasy at the end of it and didn't self regulate the oil as some say can happen.

crackerjacket · 26/01/2018 16:57

Self-regulating hair is a myth.

if its greasy, its greasy unfortunately.

Valerrie · 26/01/2018 17:03

Yep I have a chronic illness. Not washing it makes absolutely no difference.

blankets4ever · 26/01/2018 17:15

Thanks @crackerjacket, my experience suggests that is correct. To be fair, i know if I wash it every day it gets even greasier, but I can't get past every other day for proper clean hair. I don't use conditioner and use the various shampoos people mentioned here, Paul Mitchell 2 etc, help tiny bit but not a lot.

Thanks @Valerrie, I have always had greasy hair, even pre illness.

So I washed my hair in fairy liquid. It actually took about 80% less colour off my hair then shampoo I was quite surprised. I'm wondering if this issue is something to do with the soap/detergent content in shampoo as in not enough.

Keep thinking about the soap vs shower gel thread as it switched me to soap overnight and my skin has never been better

...could it be anything to do with your dye?
Dye always leaves my hair feeling like it has a coating on and it goes static as fuck.

Queenofthedrivensnow · 26/01/2018 22:44

No it's always been like this though worse in my 30's.

The clay one gets my votes, I find rinsing with cold water does help, also letting it dry naturally at least once a week. And I also just used dry shampoo and for a few weeks wouldn’t wash my hair until day 3, it did break the every other day washing. I just wash my fringe and dry shampoo on day three now.

Going to try the night time dry shampoo.

JustPutSomeGlitterOnIt · 26/01/2018 22:49

Ah. We just have naff hair then Grin
Wonder how long it'll last after washing up liq!

Cuppaand2biscuits · 26/01/2018 23:04

I'm hating getting up on these dark mornings so I've been washing my hair the night before. It looks greasy by the morning, by the afternoon it looks terrible.
The dry shampoo (or talc powder) the night before does make a positive difference but only until about lunch.
Will be trying the clay shampoo.
