Long padded coats

I'm so fed up of freezing on my commute to work (freezing train stations in Scotland!) that I've been in the look out for a long padded coat. Tried about a million on (I'm fussy but also stress about buying the wrong thing 😬)
Anyway I like the look of the joules navy Caldecott coat. But now I've just seen a similar one in monsoon in the sale- it's the alexis long coat.
Does anyone have this coat? Any opinions? I know you'll all say if you like it buy it and my husband says the same every day but I am useless- I stress about everything....money, buying wrong things, looking silly!
So tell me your thoughts on both coats please?

Thanks

Sorry I haven't linked them properly. I'll try and add them in now!

Don't know about those coats but Lands End may have something suitable in their sale, plus there's an extra 25% off sale this weekend. I have a long Lands End down coat from a few years ago and I wouldn't be without it on long winter walks!

Have you looked at Esprit? Someone on here once linked to them and I've had two now. So warm, and really well made.

FartsMeanHearts · 20/01/2018 17:06

I bought the joules caldicott but returned but now have the monsoon alexis, it is lovely and warm!

BobbinThreadbare123 · 20/01/2018 17:07

Get on Uniqlo. Their down jackets come in different weights and lengths.

Hatethinkingofusernames82 · 20/01/2018 17:09

Oh farts....really? Do you prefer the alexis then? It's in the sale for £64 or something like that.

I didn't find the uniqlo down ones warm enough for winter here.(I'm in Ayrshire on the coast and it's Baltic)
I bought the lands end long padded coat which is semi waterproof. I'm not a commuter so I just needed a warm one for jumping in and out the car.
The ULTIMATE coat is the lands end Squall coat. It's bombproof, roasting, waterproof ( it's not the nicest looking) but it's by far the best coat I've ever had. They have 25 % off sale prices just now. My kids have the junior versions for school.
I am always cold and this is the only coat I've not been freezing in.

hollyisalovelyname · 20/01/2018 17:28

The Lands End Long Commuter coat is worth a look.
Waterproof and warm.

hollyisalovelyname · 20/01/2018 17:29

Uniqlo light down is warm but definitely not waterproof.

Clarabumps · 20/01/2018 17:30

Sorry it's the Insulated squall if stadium squall that's the warmest. There's a rating on the webpage. I've just bought another one for myself as mine is a bit big now.

BobbinThreadbare123 · 20/01/2018 17:37

I'm finding the Uniqlo long down coat I have very water resistant. I have to be out for quite a while in the rain for it to soak through. I'm wearing a Seasalt padded waterproof otherwise.

JaimesGoldenHand · 20/01/2018 17:40

I have the lands end commuter coat. It is great for walking to the station but I almost pass out with overheating on the train (too crowded to remove coat on train).

Veronicat · 20/01/2018 17:44

@Clarabumps
Also Baltic Ayrshire here. I've been looking for a really warm coat, thanks for the heads up.
I've got myself a Trespass Dolly Parker which hasn't been too bad in the snow.

frenchfancy17 · 20/01/2018 18:12

The monsoon one has sold out now!

BagelDog · 20/01/2018 18:27

HOW DO the lands end ones come up size wise? They only have the eight left, which may be ok, unless they are on the smaller side...

ParkheadParadise · 20/01/2018 18:46

I've got a superdry padded coat. I'm also in freezing cold Scotland 😀

JaimesGoldenHand · 20/01/2018 19:16

I'd say my LandsEnd commuter coat is a touch on the small side but ok. That said, i have a horrid feeling that it is perfectly sized and I have put yet more weight on.

Brys125 · 20/01/2018 19:28

I bought the joules cossington last year, the down keeps coming out and it's not waterproof or even showerproof. Try elsewhere if I were you!

hollyisalovelyname · 20/01/2018 20:02

The Commuter coat was on the small size I thought.

fluffiphlox · 20/01/2018 21:43

I’ve had a couple from Gil Bret. Very good. You don’t have to layer up under them. Some down leakage though.

SofaKing0101 · 20/01/2018 21:59

I've just purchased one from a company called Rhinegold and am pleased with the shape and style and warmth of it.

I am uber fussy, and it worked for me! I have been looking for years

It is actually designed for horse riders as it has zips in the side seams, so gives you lots of movement when walking. or just zip it down if you don't.

I am a 14 and got the XL, and if you are a 10/12, then get a M as I think they come up small

Price was £86. Sorry I can't link as not tech savvy, but if you google it then you should find it.

eloisesparkle · 21/01/2018 09:18

Brys
That's interesting re the Joules coat and the down coming out.
DD 2 has the Joules Stormont. The top half is furry ( synthetic ) and the bottom half is quilted navy. She's noticed pale coloured pilling on the navy quilted part and wondered if it was the filling coming out** but I thought it might be the little bits of the fleecy bits falling down.
Oh dear Sad
