Best facial sunscreen for every day.

Can anyone suggest a really good facial sunscreen for every day? I want something that will look invisible on, and feel very light under my make up.

My Chanel foundation is SPF but not sure how effective that really is? And if I'm starting to use retinol I want a proper sunscreen with UVB and UVA coverage.

I loved Heliocare. It's my all time favourite SPF.

However on less spendy times, Sunsense Daily Face.

Plumpcious · 18/01/2018 12:57

Escentual have a third off French pharmacy brands this month.

Anyone have experience of anti-shine facial sunscreens? I have the Vichy one and find it great but I've never seen it in shops in the UK. Thinking of trying La Roche-Posay as it's available in Boots. Has anyone tried LRP anti-shine?

HuskyMcClusky · 18/01/2018 13:03

Can anyone tell me which Heliocare is best for face & under makeup, please? Smile I wouldn’t mind trying it.

RedPanda25 · 18/01/2018 13:08

I've got the heliocare 360 oilfree one and it's great. I'll see if I can post a link. Its perfect under make up for me.

RedPanda25 · 18/01/2018 13:10

This is the one I have as I have quite oily skin anyway. There is a fluid one too though.

I use Elizabeth Arden Prevage City Smart, as well as SPF it protects against pollution. I think this has made a noticeable difference to the condition of my skin and the pigmentation is far less noticeable that it used to be.

Fishfingersandwich3 · 18/01/2018 13:23

My eyes are very sensitive to something that is in some spfs (I haven’t been able to identify what!) I find Clarins factor 50 uv plus anti pollution is perfect for me. It is watery in consistency, doesn’t leave any stickiness or white cast so sits well under makeup, and most importantly doesn’t lead to my eyes streaming until all my mascara is half way down my face! The Kiehls one on the other hand....

Thanks RedPanda!

RedPanda25 · 18/01/2018 15:45

You're welcome @HuskyMcClusky, I actually bought it from the beauty and boutique website. She has great videos re makeup etc and the service was great when I ordered it.

KnockKnockWhosThereEurope · 18/01/2018 18:28

Thanks Ididnt Will look at that one you recommended.

"I use a moisturising sun cream for my neck/arms/hands so that goes on like body lotion after I'm out the shower "

So, do you use a separate body lotion on the rest of the body and do you really expose your arms in the winter? My arms don't come out unless it's over 24 degrees.

orangesegment · 18/01/2018 20:22

Gwenhwyfar - yes I do use a separate body lotion for everywhere else but I have a lot of eczema so moisturise morning and night. We have to be bare below the elbow where I am (healthcare) and it's warm anyway. Obviously I'm not going to burn in this kind of weather, but even if I'm inside, UVA travels through glass.

Northernlass99 · 20/01/2018 09:44

LRP caused my breakouts and smells v much like sun tan lotion.

Gwenhwyfar · 20/01/2018 10:51

orange - that sounds way too complicated for me.

Northernlass - I haven't found that with LRP. I like it, but wish there was a cheaper option.

Fluffycloudland77 · 20/01/2018 10:57

The ordinary are bringing out sunscreens soon so they'll be properly cruelty free.

They've promised to never sell in shops in China.

trumptown · 20/01/2018 11:03

I like Clinique Cityblock factor 40. You can use it under makeup or on its own.

HuskyMcClusky · 20/01/2018 11:37

I use a separate SPF lotion on my arms and upper chest. I keep it in a pump on the bathroom bench and put it on every day. There is no way I’m using my $$ LRP on my arms!

Loveatthefiveanddime · 28/01/2018 13:50

I have just bought some Clinique Cityblock SPF 40 too. Last year I was using the Biore watery essences, but became concerned about the alcohol in them. They were brilliant though, head and shoulders the best. But this year as I said, I am looking for alternatives without the alcohol and maybe try out some physical screens rather than chemical sunscreens.
So the Clinique is my first foray. I like it in terms of (lack of) shiny-ness and silkiness. However, I suspect it is best for younger skins and oilier skins. For me I feel like I need more moisture, but that would be a big plus for other people.
I will use it up happily but I don't think my search is over.

Loveatthefiveanddime · 28/01/2018 13:51

There is a youtuber called Gothamista who has done really intensive research into physical and chemical sunscreens from Korea/Japan as well as Europe and the US. I would advise checking her out.

Ididnthearanything · 29/01/2018 12:16

Thanks for that Gothamista. Great review.

tulipz · 29/01/2018 13:15

I love Ultrasun Antipigmentation Face Factor 50, I have sensitive skin.

MichaelBendfaster · 29/01/2018 15:00

I like Dermalogica Age Perfect Primer; I have dry skin and it goes on very smoothly and doesn't flake or bobble.

Husky, what SPF body lotion do you use? I haven't found one that's affordable/smells nice.

KatharinaRosalie · 29/01/2018 15:18

LRP Face Mist. You probably get a better protection from properly rubbing lotion all over, but I can't be arsed. The spray takes 2 seconds. Super light, no residue.

Loveatthefiveanddime · 30/01/2018 12:03

MichaelBendfaster. Interesting. That looks quite pricey though. Do you put the full 1/4 teaspoon on, or do you use it more as a primer?

QueenOfTheAndals · 30/01/2018 12:12

I found the LRP Anthelios too drying for me. What I really need is one that has a matte finish yet feels moisturising. I'm not sure that sunscreen exists!
