And why/why not?

OP posts:
friendlyflicka · 15/01/2018 20:55

Very good question. When I see other people with the traditional LV bags I think the colour and pattern are totally unappealing. Don't understand at all.

SweetChickadee · 15/01/2018 21:02

The traditional pattern is a bit naff these days IMO. Bit like the Burberry check.

Ohyesiam · 15/01/2018 21:13

No, nasty.
It's like the emperor's new clothes.

HuskyMcClusky · 15/01/2018 21:15

No. I hate the styling and the LV logo pattern. I genuinely wouldn’t carry an LV bag if you gave it to me free.

Greenteandchives · 15/01/2018 21:17

Awful. Look plastic and cheap. Trying too hard stuff.

Personwithhorse · 15/01/2018 21:22

Used to be a smart accessory, now downgraded, by mass production and being seem carried by naff ‘selebs’. I have some old ones but when I buy a new bag will probably go Mulberry.

Casmama · 15/01/2018 21:25

I think it looks a bit ugly and tacky to me tbh

ourkidmolly · 15/01/2018 21:25

Yes can't understand the appeal at all. But to be honest, that seems the way with many brands now. They just become a status symbol and are downgraded. I wouldn't want a Chanel bag or a Cartier love bracelet. The brand is ubiquitous and a bit cheapened imo.

Violletta · 15/01/2018 21:32

i cant tell the difference between the real thing and the fakes, so no - i dont like the designs, they all look really cheap

PricillaQueenOfTheDesert · 15/01/2018 21:41

I’m not so keen on the brown LV initialled bags, but they do have some lovely pieces . I particularly like the bag (photo attached) but wow, four figures for a bag! It’s for seriously wealthy. I had a nice Radley bag for ‘posh’ and river island types for everyday.
I don’t think I have to worry about LV bags until I’m a millionaire proper. ☹️

Tacksville.

PunkrockerGirl59 · 15/01/2018 21:44

It screams chav to me. Really tacky and ugly looking.

LemonShark · 15/01/2018 21:45

No. I wouldn't have one for free (unless it was to flog on eBay). They look vile. I don't like the patterns on the typical ones anyway but I think the ubiquitous counterfeits have also built an association in my mind that the LV bag is cheap, nasty and poor quality. So it downgrades the 'luxury' factor.

Randomlywondering · 15/01/2018 21:45

I've a lovely leather LV bag in deep red. It's not obviously logoed and the quality is fantastic, far better than my Mulberry bags.

PricillaQueenOfTheDesert · 15/01/2018 21:49

Oh I just had a look on the website, forget four figures, this bag is £11k, it is beautiful but can a bag ever be worth that much? Yes I’d love to own it, but I’m not sure I’d be comfortable carrying £11k of bag around, that’s almost as much as my first house cost!

AdoraBell · 15/01/2018 22:04

I like some of the bags that don’t have the logo all over them, but the logo’d stuff looks cheap to me. Not helped by the fact that someone I worked with knows the bloke who made LV luggage for a well known celeb couple. I won’t put their name on here, but it did make me smile.

StellaTins · 15/01/2018 22:32

Oh god no.

It's a showy brand and I don't like the look either.

ButteredScone · 15/01/2018 22:34

I like some of their stuff and it is obviously well made. But it isn’t a brand I would particularly want to be associated with.

AnaViaSalamanca · 15/01/2018 22:37

It's a tough question. As a brand LV is a victim of its own success, it has many other (better) designs and great leathers, but it has become synonymous with the LV initials and the knockoffs.

However I do have a tote (checked pattern) and it's so bloody durable so I do use it whatever people might think. I think it depends on your entire looks though, so if you are wearing tracksuit maybe it looks bad, sort of like any other famous item. Would you junk your chanel bags for example because those are also quite commonplace?

franktheskank · 15/01/2018 23:11

I have a few of them and I like them but there are a lot of fakes around. You can tell the fake ones a mile off as they're very stiff and plastic looking.

I have an oxblood mulberry Bayswater that is my everyday bag and I love it Smile

Fabellini · 15/01/2018 23:17

I like some of it but not all....but then, I can say that about pretty much every brand. I like some Gucci stuff, but definitely not all, and I love the heritage Bayswater franktheskank, but don’t care for a lot of the newer designs that Johnny Coca is responsible for.
There again, I really like the jeans Top Shop do, but rarely buy anything else from there, so I guess the moral of the story is, pick the bits you like from wherever you want, and don’t worry about the rest!

Chocwocdoodah · 15/01/2018 23:43

No, it’s tacky. But I can’t abide any accessory/clothing that is covered in logos. Really cheapens it.

zen1 · 15/01/2018 23:59

Another one who doesn’t like the typical pattern associated with LV, but I have a book about antiques / collectibles that shows some historic LV and I can see why some of the original items like the trunks were desirable in their day (early 20th century).

meandmytinfoilhat · 16/01/2018 00:03

I do, I have several of their bags. I think they're timeless and although others may not like the colourful monogram, I do.

I'm not keen on Chanel.

Ilovetea33 · 16/01/2018 03:31

I'm not crazy about their bags, but I have a lovely pair of sandals.
