Tights Under Trousers

This morning I was about to start my shift and was freezing out and very wet so I wore a pair of Boots to work as it was wet and was just changing my boots to my flats when one of my work colleagues remarked about the weather. I replied that it was a cold one, so cold infact that I had wooly tights on under my trousers.

She then asked why I was wearing tights under trousers and I told her I get cold waiting for public transport and also I go outside for a ciggie on my breaks.

She then said that wearing tights under trousers is wrong though to be honest I do not see what is wrong with this at all.

Tell her to mind her own business.

lesleyturner · 15/01/2018 20:04

Yeh I am a naturally cold person. I wear tights under trousers when it is cold. sometimes I get a draft up my leg and the tights prevent it a bit especially working long shifts.

Just wondered what others thoughts were after her comments.

I wear thick tights under trousers to keep warm as well - I spend a ridiculous amount of time outside in school runs and in playgrounds. I'm not freezing my arse off for anyone's idea of style on something they can't even see!

olliegarchy99 · 15/01/2018 20:08

I feel the cold. I wear leggings (and sometimes tights) under jeans when out walking the dog in the winter. No-one can see anyway Smile

LostInShoebiz · 15/01/2018 20:19

Wrong in what way?! It's the very definition of doing no harm to anyone. If you hadn't mentioned it she wouldn't have known about the dreadful "wrong".

Is it illegal? No. Is it offensive? No. Does it make you happy? Yes. Then the only thing wrong here is the drama llama you work with.

derenstar · 15/01/2018 20:22

Your colleague is entitled to her opinion but it’s none of her damn business how you chose to wrap up against the cold. I do this when it’s particulalry cold and I couldn’t give a flying monkeys what anybody thought, why would I? Tell her to mind her own and do you.

CountFosco · 15/01/2018 20:27

Completely normal here. All of us (including DS) wear woolen tights under trousers. It's so warm!

lesleyturner · 15/01/2018 20:45

Yes I do find it helps in the cold weather like today, my Husband jokes also and thinks I must be mad as I will be sweating in Wool tights under my Trousers though on days like today especially when waiting for public transport I get glad I wore them.

It's not wrong. Because M&S* make tights designed to go under trousers.

(Footless, thermal tights - there's a whole range!)

*other retailers are available but M&S are the authority on The Law on underwear.

lesleyturner · 15/01/2018 20:48

Oh yeh M & S are good, bought mines from Tesco in November.

Glad I invested as has been a really cold winter.

And also my mum does it. And she would not encourage anything which was Wrong.

Mibbe your Colleague Who is Wrong re Tights thinks tights underneath trousers will encourage thrush. Tell her that wool is a breathable fabric and it's not like you have layers of nylon setting up a Nasty Attack of Thrush.

ChickenVindaloo2 · 15/01/2018 20:51

I think your colleague has Tights Envy.

Bet you SHE does things Wrong. Eg maybe she has a loo brush! Or maybe she fastens her bra behind her back when everyone know that is Wrong and the best way is to perform the Clip & Twirl.

lesleyturner · 15/01/2018 20:52

To answer an earlier question no it doesnt really bother me what she thinks, usually got Boots on so not like anyone can see anyway.

Very seldom ever wear Nylons to be honest.

olliegarchy99 I walk the dog as well and can totally relate. Can be really cold, especially nights like this when it is pouring with rain also.

Personally I can't bear the feeling of tights under trousers, but that doesn't make it "wrong" for you.

What a strange thing for someone to have a go at you about.

Buck3t · 15/01/2018 22:47

It's all about the layering. Your colleague is wrong.

mrswarthog · 15/01/2018 22:57

One day last week in work, I wore tights under my jeans and socks with my boots. My colleagues were v envious as our heating was broken. Your colleague is very wrong. Grin

LauraLesleyLogan · 16/01/2018 19:24

Wooly tights on a day like today can be a godsend.

Doobigetta · 16/01/2018 19:29

I find the feeling of tights under trousers unbearable, but it's up to you what you wear.

RubbishMantra · 16/01/2018 19:46

Wrong? Confused Many builders advocate wearing tights under their trousers when working outside in cold weather.

ThoughACandleBurnsNoOnesHome · 16/01/2018 20:27

My MIL wears tights under trousers every day. She won't wear socks at all. I'm not even sure she owns any! What a strange thing for someone to say to you. It's not really any of her business.

LauraLesleyLogan · 16/01/2018 20:43

I have socks and tights on right now under trousers as it is very cold 2nite.

AnarchyKitty · 16/01/2018 20:46

I had fleece lined leggings on under my work trousers today. Absolute bliss!

When it's cold I often wear tights under my work trousers, or jeans. Driving buses can be just as cold as waiting for them. But being a man, I have to be very careful, don't want people talking about me.
