Hello!

Does anyone know what I can use on my hair to take the brassy/yellow tones out? It is my natural colour. I have tried the purple shampoo but it does nothing. I don’t really want it properly dyed or lightened though 🤔 Any ideas mumsnetter?!

I realise the hat isn’t helpful but this pic shows the yellowness off well!

It's a lovely colour Smile

MrsApplepants · 09/01/2018 19:18

Which purple shampoo have you tried? Some are way better than others. Having said that, I think your natural colour is gorgeous. Golden not brassy

MyBrilliantDisguise · 09/01/2018 19:19

It's a lovely colour - leave it alone! Brassiness comes through hair dye, not natural colour.

ScreamingValenta · 09/01/2018 19:22

I wouldn't describe your hair as brassy - it's a beautiful golden shade. If I had your hair I wouldn't change anything about it at all Smile.

naichick · 09/01/2018 19:24

Thank you for the lovely compliments Blush Maybe comparing it to dyed blonde hair too much- need to manage my expectations! Grin
apple I’m not sure actually what brand it was, can you recommend a good one?

Does it really have no colour on it at all? It’s a lovely colour but the front “lengths” look different to the rest which has a reddish tone?

ginghamstarfish · 09/01/2018 19:27

I've read about using a drop of food colouring in conditioner, blue or purple. Google it, but your hair looks fine!

CurlyhairedAssassin · 09/01/2018 19:28

That is, the bits lying against your jacket have a strawberry blonde tone, the bits coming down from the front look blonder.

HouseOfGoldandBones · 09/01/2018 19:28

IMO Fudge is the best purple shampoo.

I'm silver, and it takes all of the yellow out.

Whatever you do, don't try the Provoke one. It really doesn't work & it wrecks your hair.

But I love the colour of your hair, doesn't look brassy at all.

minniebear · 09/01/2018 19:34

I love Fudge too, I bought a massive bottle and used it daily for a week then weekly when I’d reached the tone I was after. That said, I think your hair’s a gorgeous colour and not at brassy.

naichick · 09/01/2018 19:40

Yes I promise I’ve never dyed it! I’m going to get a good trim first and try fudge, see what happens!
I’ve just looked at loads of pics of my hair and I think it generally needs a decent cut/style and a bit of love maybe its not the colour thats the problem 🤔

Hi from.where do you get the fudge shampoo? Boots?

PhatSlag · 09/01/2018 19:44

I use Osmo Super Silver. So many people ask if me if I’ve just had my hair coloured when I use it.

SealSong · 09/01/2018 19:46

That is your natural hair colour? Wow you are so lucky, it is gorgeous. Don't change it! It's not brassy at all. As said above, brassiness comes from bad chemical hair colouring.

mercurymaze · 09/01/2018 19:48

Get the hairdresser to put a toner on it

AnnabelleLecter · 09/01/2018 19:49

It's a lovely strawberry golden blonde and suits your skin tone.
No need to do anything.

naichick · 09/01/2018 19:51

phat do you use it on natural or dyed hair?

Redken24 · 09/01/2018 19:55

Hard to tell what your hair colour is.

Fudge shampoo is excellent - far superior is the fanola no yellow shampoo.

Your hair doesn't seem yellow/brassy have u got a better photo in light?

PhatSlag · 09/01/2018 19:57

Shamelessly following! I have a blue shampoo by milk shake.... it makes my hands blue. I kind of like the purple it leaves in my hair but I’m not sure I’d recommend it...
I have left other silver/blue/purple shampoo on for 1p minutes on dry hair in the past. That works well... depends on product though.

Otherwise talk to your hairdresser about shampoo vs toners.

somebodythinkofthechildren · 09/01/2018 20:22

Your hair is beautiful, as are you.

I use a purple shampoo as I bleach my hair but I have and want to maintain an ash blonde colour. The L'Oréal Serie Expert silver shampoo is by far the best I've ever used.

nousername123 · 09/01/2018 20:41

Try a toner or semi permanent ash blonde. Colours that say 28 washes don't really damage the hair and give a nice shine. Medium or light ash blonde.

doozeldog · 09/01/2018 20:46

Fudge blue shampoo

readyforapummelling · 09/01/2018 20:50

Another Fudge believer. Couldn't be without it now. Although some days have purple scalp and don't notice until I get to work.

readyforapummelling · 09/01/2018 20:53

My natural colour is strawberry blonde so for me this is good results.
