Small things that make a person look younger (sadly looking at celebs wondering how the hell they do it)?

I'm in my late 30's & have been shamelessly looking at celebs in their early 40's like Louise Redknapp who still have a youthful vibe & energy... Little things I notice about other fab stylish women older that me is that usually
they have long swishy, bouncy layered hair or a nice stylish bob
no noticeably grey hair
in very good shape
well fitting clothes, knows what suits them
subtle make up
Would love some more tips & I need to stop envying Louise Redknapp. I feel I look every one of my 38 years at present & look older than alot of women who are 10 years older than me! So please list what you think makes one look youthful & stylish. Thanks

Botox doesn't really make people look any more youthful.

Sunbeam18 · 08/01/2018 23:02

Ah! I don't put eyeliner anywhere except top lids. Is that still ok?

hubbibubbub · 08/01/2018 23:26

Louise redknapp has had tear trough and cheek fillers & baby Botox around eyes (compare to pics from 5yr ago) or so it looks to me

Primal blueprint ‘diet’ has without doubt taken years off. Amazing.
Good haircut.
Bobbi Brown makeover.
Regular manicure.
St Tropez gradual tanner for body, tinted.
Probiotic supplements.
Sleep!

Really hoping to avoid the botox but it looks like the norm these days... What's the primal blueprint diet Chic in wellies?

I don't think BOTOX makes older women look younger; just downright odd in many cases.

A smooth forehead on someone whose jowls have sagged looks very unnatural. speaks from experience.

Imho as you age you need to emulate the factors that made you youthful.

So thats:

slimness.
tonedness.
full hair
dewy skin with no wrinkling.
No facial sagging.

The last one's the most difficult to achieve in my experience. Very difficult to do anything about.

Delatron · 09/01/2018 11:44

Agree, smooth foreheads look weird with saggy jowels. Also crows feet. I don't think you can just target one small area and expect to look younger.

GertieMotherwell · 09/01/2018 11:45

Botox
Hair
Teeth
Brows
Lips

Money

GertieMotherwell · 09/01/2018 11:56

Primal Blueprint is similar to Paleo I believe?

abitoflight · 09/01/2018 12:55

Could PP's please say more about appropriate eyeliner please? My eyes disappear without it

halfwitpicker · 09/01/2018 13:17

Kate Middleton would look ten years younger if she gained half a stone.

halfwitpicker · 09/01/2018 13:19

Oh yeah and don't smoke. Just don't, it knackers your skin.

phoenix1973 · 09/01/2018 13:22

Louise has always had very heavy upper eyelids so to me, doesnt look young.
She is very pretty though and has kept lovely skin and figure.
The extensions and colouring make a huge difference.

Agerbilatemycardigan · 09/01/2018 13:35

Poor Louise 😅

OlennasWimple · 09/01/2018 13:48

Small things are wearing flattering make up (probably different shades than suited you in your 20s), drinking lots of water and getting lots of sleep

Big things are Botox, minimising bingo wings and having a really good cut and colour on a regular basis

BitOutOfPractice · 09/01/2018 14:00

All these people who look younger than you are...I am jealous. And old Sad

Bimbler · 09/01/2018 14:02

I suspect some people on MN overestimate how young they look. I've seen posts on threads along the lines of 'I'm 52 and people are always mistaking me for a 35 year old'.

No they're not. No 52 year old in the world looks like a 35 year old.

BitOutOfPractice · 09/01/2018 14:09

I try and dress stylishly with a nod to fashion. I'm reasonably slim. I take care of my skin and get my hair cut and coloured regularly. I have manicured nails etc. I still look every day of my 50 years

omBreROSE · 09/01/2018 14:09

I think it isn’t easy to see from a picture how old someone really is.
A lot of it is figure, how one moves, their voice / energy levels.
I think that is what people mean when they say their friends/people think they look much younger.
I’ve been told this weekend l look anywhere from ( a picture) 18-30 or something- lm 46!
If you were to put me in a line up with that age group- you’d definitely realise I’m mid 40’s Grin

OlennasWimple · 09/01/2018 14:10

Men tend to underestimate my age, women know how old I am (things like hands are a give away....)

theredjellybean · 09/01/2018 14:14

I would aim to look a good, happy, healthy 39 rather than try to look younger.

I am early fifties and look something between 45 and 55, I aim for well looked after, healthy age appropriate.

So maintain weight, not thin, or fat,
Regular exercise to keep toned
Sleep and not too much alcohol
4 week appt at hairdressers is sacrosanct. Coloured every time.
Nails every 3 weeks, short, rounded, always classic dark red
Neutral make up
Well fitted tailored clothes that suit my curves.
And a little spot of botox round eyes and for scowl lines.

And lots of good sex and being happy...

Delatron · 09/01/2018 18:04

Also, lots of people look young for their age right through their thirties and assume they'll always look young for their age, that's the face they have.
Not true. Something bad happens at about 41/42 in my experience..! Looking at celebs too, that's when they start to have work done/up the work.

Tinycitrus · 09/01/2018 18:12

Also - 43 isn’t ancient. I still only have a few grey hairs and some lines at the corners of my eyes.

I think a youthful outlook helps. I exercise, try new things snd socialise, go to gigs, love the dance floor and am enjoying more time to myself to do things like get makeup done, good haircut now kids are older.

Honestly - the way some posters talk about women in their 40s/50s you’d think we should all just give up and get on with crochet and cats.

iBiscuit · 09/01/2018 18:18

Yy, Delatron - I'm one of the women. For years I'd have "OMG you look about 25".

Then my forties happened Grin

CountFosco · 09/01/2018 18:21

Think this is true. I am short, have very round blue eyes and had blond hair (it has got darker as I've aged - no dye involved!) and looked annoyingly young for my age through my 20s and early 30s, would get men being chippy with me at work because they didn't realise how experienced I was etc. Had kids in my late 30s, early 40s and now look my age I think, although people tell me I don't but I think that's just politeness. I think I look good, I've got no hangups about my appearance, but I no longer have that bloom of youth healthy people in their 30s have (and people in their 20s are just babies!). But I'd rather be treated with more respect by men than have that youthful glow and the problems with the wrong kind of male attention.
