Small things that make a person look younger (sadly looking at celebs wondering how the hell they do it)?

I'm in my late 30's & have been shamelessly looking at celebs in their early 40's like Louise Redknapp who still have a youthful vibe & energy... Little things I notice about other fab stylish women older that me is that usually
they have long swishy, bouncy layered hair or a nice stylish bob
no noticeably grey hair
in very good shape
well fitting clothes, knows what suits them
subtle make up
Would love some more tips & I need to stop envying Louise Redknapp. I feel I look every one of my 38 years at present & look older than alot of women who are 10 years older than me! So please list what you think makes one look youthful & stylish. Thanks

I'm not sure that Louise looks 'older' as such but I always think that she looks absolutely exhausted. Who knows what she's being going through for the last few years?

Bimbler · 08/01/2018 12:09

I agree that a lot of it has to do with keeping up with trends. Not being a fashion victim but a few nods to what's currently fashionable. If you wear makeup ask yourself if you're wearing the same makeup and applying it in the same way as you did 10 years ago? That will be ageing.

I think Louise is lovely looking and I wish her all the best post divorce. I always thought Jamie Redknapp seemed like the most boring of men.

A fringe, soft layers - highlights and dewy foundation is a massive help.
No harsh black eyeliner - or ( and l see this a fair bit ) just eyeliner! Confused
No mascara. That is very aging and strange for any age group.
Natural nails / or a strong colour on not too long nails.
A healthy natural weight. Make sure you keep your arms toned.
Etc... etc...
It isn’t complicated- but we do ( lm 46) have to work a little harder than when we were 26!

Mascara is strange for any age group? Confused

omBreROSE · 08/01/2018 12:30

Oh, and no helmet hairstyles!

omBreROSE · 08/01/2018 12:31

No, eyeliner and No mascara! Grin
I forgot any form of grammar there!

Karigan1 · 08/01/2018 12:37

It’s not just the makeup but also the base for it. You can’t beat having a darn good moisturiser etc

user187656748 · 08/01/2018 12:41

Arms are a big giveaway. I was shocked to see some pictrues of me at New Year. Face is fine, body is slim, arms look enormous!

halfwitpicker · 08/01/2018 12:51

Instead of bitching about Louise here's my tuppence worth to look younger :

Loads of water
Low carb high fat diet - the fat pumps your skin out and makes it look luminous
Fake tan
Little alcohol
Little caffeine
Loads of green veg
Sleep
Moisturiser
Slim but not thin as a pp said
Dressing well for your shape

So basically living like a nun.

daydreamnation · 08/01/2018 13:07

I don't necessarily look young for my age but I'm often told I look 'good' for my age. I totally put that down to being slim, I'm the same weight as I was at 15 and I dress for me, not for my age!
From behind I look like a teenager, the front view (my face!) isn't so youthful though Grin
I agree with what others have said, with an army of hair stylists, make up artists and the money for all kinds of clothes, shoes etc who wouldn't look their best!!!!

hendricksyousay · 08/01/2018 13:15

I'm 43 and I'm constantly being told I look younger . I think this is for a few reasons ..
I'm short
I wear flat shoes / trainers/ parkas/ casual clothing .

I have curly hair
I have freckles
I have thick ish untouched eyebrows
I have good teeth ( age appropriate)
I have long eyelashes
I'm a little overweight but hourglass shape with good boobs .
So I think overall I have the appearance of youth if that makes sense .. people often ask me if I've had Botox because my forehead is completely smooth but it's just how it is .
I do however cleanse and tone every night and moisturise and have done since I was 16 .
Maybe it's just luck 🤷‍♀️

mikado1 · 08/01/2018 13:19

What are age appropriate teeth?? Grin

user187656748 · 08/01/2018 13:20

I would say at mid 40s - no baby teeth and no false teeth! Grin

user187656748 · 08/01/2018 13:21

I disagree about the flat shoes. Heels extend the legs and help to give the appearance of a slim figure.

CountFosco · 08/01/2018 13:22

I think Louise Redknapp looks good and partly that's because any cosmetic surgery is subtle so you still see her age appropriate wrinkles. She is very attractive and her age is part of that.

She is also slim and fit and that really makes the biggest difference, we'd all do a lot better buying cheap sunscreen and no makeup and spending the time and money we save on exercise.

But otherwise that celeb polished look requires a lot of money and other people's time spent on it.

hendricksyousay · 08/01/2018 13:31

Good teeth for my age , not crazy white veneers or brown teeth 🤷‍♀️

hendricksyousay · 08/01/2018 13:32

What I'm saying is flat shoes make me look younger because I'm short and that coupled with casual clothing makes me look younger . I see my face ageing but new people think I'm late 20's .. I think the reasons I've listed are why , maybe I just have a young face 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️

celebrate30 · 08/01/2018 13:33

I think Louise like she could still be in her 30's.. I saw some pics of the middleton sisters this morning & they both look like they could be in their 40's... Like op said above eyeliner is very aging, Kate & Pippa pile it on... Their clothes are also more aging & their skin is showing the effects of all their sun holidays. Kate & Pippa are 35 & 37, I think Louise looks far better than both of them

If I had the £££££ then I bet I'd look 10 years younger too!
I don't so so New Year resolution is to make the most of what I have and do the best I can with what I can afford - decent hair cut, clean and self-manicured nails, subtle makeup, clean ironed clothes and polished shoes. I will spend money on decent bras and shoes.
I think it's sad that we constantly criticise ourselves and other women incessantly, and compare ourselves unfavourably with women who have vastly different lifestyles and income to ourselves ☹️

buggerthebotox · 08/01/2018 13:38

I think, apart from the everyday maintenance (caring for skin and hair, getting teeth done, dressing well and appropriately, bring groomed) the main factor is body shape and fitness.

I've always been groomed but I get loads more compliments now I've lost a bit of weight and toned up.

user187656748 · 08/01/2018 14:04

I've noticed a few of my friends (late 40s) suddenly getting ultra thin due to fitness regimes. They certainly don't look younger for it. Those who do a moderate amount of exercise and still have some softness in their bodies are ageing better.

CremeFresh · 08/01/2018 14:12

I bet most of the photos you are looking at are posed , so professional makeup and hair, best clothes etc. These celebs look just like us if you catch them on the school run or nipping out for a pint of milk.

Depends what people think is ultrathin. I agree having a very low BMI of say

user187656748 · 08/01/2018 14:36

I am 5 foot 4 and a size 8-10. I still have softness (a little too much in the upper arm department). My friends who are size 6s look gaunt.

PNGirl · 08/01/2018 15:01

I'm 33 and I get asked for ID all the time. As a pp said, I have curly hair, and I'm slightly overweight BMI wise which gives me a bit of a baby face.

I think poker straight hair can be very ageing. If I straighten mine I look about 10 years older instantly.
