Anyone bought new glasses recently?

I’m due some new glasses. I don’t wear them all the time so don’t want to spend too much on designer frames etc. Where have you bought glasses from on high st that you rate their choice please?

My last glasses were from specsavers. They've held up pretty well.

I'm on the hunt for a new pair, but struggling to find what I want. There is a pair on glasses direct that are almost what I'm looking for, so I'll go for them if I can't find exactly what I'm after.

Mine are from specsavers. They do a good range but if my prescription was simple I'd probably buy online

Specsavers for the last 20 years. I've had FCUK, Jasper Conran, Osiris (sunglasses) and own brand. All have been great.

If you have a strong prescription and need extra thinned lenses it's worth knowing that asda include these for free. At specsavers and online I would have paid over £150 but got some perfectly good ones from asda for £45.

I recently got 2 pairs from Specsavers, their usual offer. I got driving and prescription sunnies. For my reading/close up specs, though, I found a nice frame that I liked in Costco, but they wanted another £75 quid for the lenses, so I found a local optician and took in my prescription with the frames, and they made up & fitted the lenses for £35.

Got my last pairs from glasses direct online.

I'd never go back to buying on the high street now, I saved so much money on them I was able to buy 3 pairs of glasses and one pair of sunnies for the same price as 1.5 pairs of spec savers ones.

As long as you know what kind of frames suit you it's ideal.

I buy online too, the glasses I liked were £239 in boots and I paid £84 from JP Opticians in one colour and £122 in another colour from Mr Spex.

Me too, wouldn’t buy on the high st (these are my first ever glasses).

Mine were from Boots nothing in vision express or spec savers that suited that were reasonably priced.

Got varifocal sunnies with a voucher so they were £125 then glasses half price so £80.

Glasses direct, were fantastic, i chose 4 pairs to try at home for free which really helped, great price and some good discounts. I got my glasses with coating plus prescription sunglasses for £64. You can also use the try on screen if you have a webcam to take your photo

Specsavers are pretty good, personally I find the sight test a bit rushed, I tried vision express last time, they were very good quite similar process but more modern surroundings. Not sure if I would buy specs on the high street either, very expensive if you want coatings or thinner lenses. I might try glasses direct next time.

I think buying online works if you have a straightforward prescription & face shape!

I tried buying online, but I didn't feel the lenses were quite right (I have an astigmatism & high prescription). I also needed to try on about 20 pairs to find the right ones.

Thanks for replies. How does online work? Surely you need to try on frames before committing? I can’t even buy shoes on line, let alone glasses Grin

Another vote for Glasses Direct! You pick samples to be sent to you for free, try on, then send back and order the ones you want. They always have offers on too.

Another vote for Asda here - also benefitted from the included extra thin lens due to my prescription (-7.25). Good selection and service - came in less than a week even though it was the week before Christmas!

I'm yet another voter for Asda - bloody brilliant and so reasonable. I took advantage of the extra thin lens too, for which Specsavers used to charge me a bloody fortune.

I used the optic shop online. Great deal on prada glasses... I tried them on in boots but paid £175 less online.

I vote Asda too
Through examination. Cost is great. No extra cost for varifocals or coatings

I found the frames I liked on the high st, didn’t buy them as I thought they were too expensive - came home and searched online and was amazed at the possibilities. £239 to £84. I had no idea as I didn’t wear glasses before that.

I get mine online from Bailey Nelson they have shops in London and Leeds. Cubits are good too.
