Size 9 shoes

RedSkyAtNight · 05/01/2018 16:21

I have size 9 feet (yes, really size 9, no I couldn't squeeze my feet into an 8). On top of that my feet are also awkwardly shaped. This means mail order can be really impractical as I really need to try things on and it's a total pita to get to the post office to send things back.

I used to buy all my shoes from Brantano.

Can anyone suggest any high street shops that routinely stock more than the token size 9? Or I might be convinced to try mail order again if anyone can suggest somewhere that stocks lots of variety and has a robust returns policy!

I've bought at "feetfirst.se" (also known as NilsonShoes or Jerns) but I'm abroad. They have shoes up to 27.2 or 27.9 centimetres which is equivalent to 43 or 44, alternative ladies 8 or 9.5 (UK) or 10.5 or 12 (US), or men's sizes 8 or 8.5 (UK) or 9 or 10.5 (US). Best is to check the size in centimetres as it doesn't vary as much the other quite mysterious shoe-sizes!

You could also visit here as a tourist, visit one of their (few) special shops, and return with suitcases full of new shoes...

Bendyandtheinkmachine · 05/01/2018 16:42

Watching with interest. I'm a size 9 and I have terrible trouble with footwear in general. I wear men's shoes quite a bit. I am currently wearing some comfy unisex boots from cotton traders, but only have one pair of trainers 🤦🏻‍♀️

Thetimehascome · 05/01/2018 17:42

I think JCrew do size 9

AquaAddict · 05/01/2018 17:47

Watching as well. The only place I can reliably get 9s is Dr Marten. I did pick up some 9s in John Lewis but they were a 42. When did 42 become a 9? I’m a 43 so should I be thinking I’m a 10?

Terramirabilis · 05/01/2018 17:52

If it's at all a possibility to make a trip here to the US, I find it is so much better here for choice for large feet. I am a little smaller as a US 10.5/UK 8, but I know that US 11 and even US 12 are pretty readily available. Just if you're thinking of a holiday you could go to a major east coast city and stock up.

Chchchchangeabout · 05/01/2018 17:54

Can you get to London? Chiltern Street near Baker Street tube has at least three places that do size 9 plus. LTS, Crispins and Magnus.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 05/01/2018 17:55

Asda!! The shoes in George routinely go up to a size 9 and, as a generous 9 myself, I can confirm that it is genuinely a 9. I LIVE in Asda ballet flats.

Chchchchangeabout · 05/01/2018 17:57

Crispins - beautiful, beautiful shoes, well made usually but can be delicate. Cost an eye watering amount. Worth it for posh office stuff, presents/treats if you are lucky and worth checking sales
Magnus- more normal stock and more reasonable prices, some nice stuff some not so nice
LTS - not known for the style factor or quality but can be OK for basics and sometimes does bigger sizes of brands.

Chchchchangeabout · 05/01/2018 17:58

Lady do Asda really do size 9? As in size 9 (43) not size 9 (42)

That would be amazing!

OneMoreOne · 05/01/2018 17:59

Uggs! Much more on there now than the classic boots. Expensive, but great quality.

MrsZB · 05/01/2018 18:00

I don't know what your style is but I am a wide 8 and I often buy men's shoes. It's great! Esp for boots and trainers etc. I like a chunky shoe though.

BikeRunSki · 05/01/2018 18:00

I have size 9 feet and get a lot of shoes from Next boys section. I tend to find more feminine styles from Clark’s, but often do “click n collect” to make sure they’ll have a 9 in stock.

(PS I know you said you couldn’t possibly squeeze into an 8, but i’ve had some very generous 8s which were really a 9 from White Stuff).

Longdistance · 05/01/2018 18:06

m.deichmann.com/GB/en/shop/welcome.html These do an XL range up to a size 10.

NickMyLipple · 05/01/2018 18:07

I'm also a definite 9 - I struggle massively. I have narrow, long feet with a high arch so all of these wide fit 9's are no good either. Also can't do ballet pumps or dolly shoes for the same reason.

My two favourite pairs come from Timberland (women's section!). I also have a pair of Hotter shoes for work, a few pairs from New Look (though sometimes a bit too wide for me) and I even got a random pair in an actual 9 from Primark once!

Asda do 9's but I find the fit very hit and miss for my shape of foot. And not often many styles in store either.

Thetimehascome · 05/01/2018 18:09

Just checked and a lot of JCrew shoes and boots go up to a 9.5. Expensive but not frumpy like many larger size shoes.

MyAmTrying · 05/01/2018 18:42

Next do a good range in larger sizes I think, and if you order online you can just pop them back to store.

Womble75 · 05/01/2018 18:47

New Look and Evans both do 9 in store. Some of the larger Next and Asda also.
Online, Simply Be and Look Again are good and you have the option of up to EEE fitting.

brimfullofasha · 05/01/2018 19:11

I'm also a size 9 (43). I get shoes from Next, Office, New Look, Clarks and Shoe Zone.

I find them all very hit and miss with sizing but I just get used to ordering online and sending them back.

Didn't know about Asda- I'll try them.

I've recently discovered Toms do women's shoes up to size 10! I ordered some slippers and boots. Slippers are perfect but boots are too wide unfortunately.

user2085372673 · 05/01/2018 19:30

Evans do shoes to big sizes - maybe even size 11 and with a wide fit. I've also found shoes for my size 9's in Marks and Spencer before. The other place is Hotter but they don't have too many branches.

It's a compete nightmare and I swear is the crux of all my shopping problems as I can never find shoes for any outfit so end up in converse trainers.

FabalaTheGreenGirl · 05/01/2018 21:22

Size 9 here too! In my skinter days I'd go to New Look - they do size 9s in a lot of styles. My go-to when I can afford it is Clarks.

NickMyLipple · 05/01/2018 21:34

I've never found Clarks to do a 'proper' 9 - they're always too small for me!

Wincarnis · 05/01/2018 21:38

Gabor, Next, Evans, Asda, Zalando & Land's End all stock size 9

BinkyandBunty · 05/01/2018 21:43

Cinderella Shoes in Ireland specialises in large sizes. They are mostly mail order and ship all over the world but do have a store if you felt like a shopping weekend away!
