Help before I take it back to boots!

I don’t have sensational but do use CND/bluesky and a lamp.

Did you clean your nails first? A wipe with a bit of vodka will do it!

Did you use a (gel) base coat?

My gel nails, even when done at a salon, always peel after 4-5 days, everyone’s nails are different so whilst I’d expect you to get more than a day, not everyone can get three weeks wear

Whitegrenache · 29/12/2017 17:54

Hi no there was no base coat provided in the kit. Nails are clean. Normal gel nails last a few weeks usually on me

Did you use the lamp?

*Must use with SensatioNail Pro 3060 LED lamp.

I used the lamp provided so presume yes.

You need to dehydrate your nails first. You need to get rid of any oils, or the polish will just slide off.

magicstar1 · 29/12/2017 19:04

I have the Sensationail kit and it came with a base/top coat. Maybe check the label on yours

crazycatgal · 29/12/2017 19:10

My kit came with a base coat - are you sure that yours didn't?

xyzandabc · 29/12/2017 19:14

My sensationail kit came with both a cleaning fluid/cotton pads and base/top coat. Did you follow all the instructions to the letter? Including wiping with the cleaning fluid stuff after you've finished?

Mine usually last 10-14 days, certainly don't come off after a day.

Isitwise · 29/12/2017 19:14

Buff your nails and use a cleanser before applying a base coat. Took me a while to stop mine peeling.

Mine last at least a week now

xyzandabc · 29/12/2017 19:16

The cleanser wiping afterwards takes the moisture off of the done nails. If you don't do that bit, they stay tacky forever.

If they are tacky rather than peeling, try using the cleaning fluid and wiping over them. Even doing it now might help (if you didn't do it before)

Whitegrenache · 29/12/2017 20:06

No base coat provided. They are not tacky and def not chipping just peeling away

You need to buy a base coat then. I did dd's nails with blue sky gel and they lasted about 3 weeks. I used the cleansing liquid, base coat, 2 layers of gel and a top coat

AManWalksIntoABarOuch · 29/12/2017 20:52

Where are they chipping/peeling?

If it's at the top, you need to make sure you seal the free edge. I can't describe it very well. There may be youtube videos. But before you paint the nail, run yoir polush brush with a little polish on it along the top edge of the nail so you catch the top, edge and bottom of the nail. You shouldn't see any white from any angle.

If it's at the bottom or the sides, you might be catching polish on the skin or cuticles which will make it come off. I used to paint it as neatly as I could, then before using the lamp would rub around the edge with the thick bit on an orange stick to make sure there was no polush touching the skin. I found it gave a neat edge too.

Very thin coats. Better to do two thin coats of colour than one thick one. Same goes for top and base coat.

I've never used Sensationail. I used to use Red Carpet Manicure. Loved it and I think it's essentially the same. Normal polush never lasted a day, Gel polush at the salon would never last but after quite a bit of practice I could get RCM to last well over a week.

Deemail · 29/12/2017 20:56

Sensationalnails lamp is led rather than UV and they are only meant to last a week.
I'd return it and get a kit with led lamp.

Whitegrenache · 29/12/2017 21:03

It's an led lamp. Is an uv lamp brtter? I did seal the top edge of the nail

CurlsLDN · 29/12/2017 21:21

You absolutely need a gel base coat, I thought that unlike regular nail polish gel always requires a proper base and top coat to seal it all together? (I could be wrong!)

CurlsLDN · 29/12/2017 21:26

On their own website they say you need a base coat

www.sensationail.co.uk/salon/how-to-do-gel-nails-at-home/

Could it have been missing from your box?

PinkDucks · 29/12/2017 21:31

Did you buy the express kit/gels? I have this kit and you don’t need a base or top coat but I find the gels only last two days or so before chipping.

taybert · 29/12/2017 22:15

The base coat is the same stuff as the top coat.
Here

taybert · 29/12/2017 22:16

Pinkducks I have the opposite problem, I can’t get the express stuff off!

Rubyroop · 29/12/2017 22:23

Led lamps absolutely fine. I don't find my sensationail one great though, much prefer my rcm ones. Did you buff, cleanse and use a prep solution (dehydrator) on the nail first? Normally base and top coat required but you may have a 1 step gel maybe?

sausagerollsrock · 29/12/2017 22:27

I'm a Beauty therapist. Did you prep nails correctly? Base coat must be applied. Did you do thin coats of colour? And were you careful not to flood the cuticles. There are many reasons gels peel. Most of my customers get on average 4 weeks from my gels, I had one lady recently who had hers on after 7 weeks. I'm very thorough with my prep.

timeforachangeithink · 29/12/2017 22:30

Is it the express gel? I believe it is a bit more difficult to get r8ght bit they have a guide on their Facebook to help. I'll screenshot and return.
