Should you wear mini skirts to work?

I'm curious to discover others opinions on this. Generally to work I wear pencil skirts, but sometimes I prefer wearing the odd mini skirt to work. How appropriate for work would you say this is?

When wearing a mini skirt, I always wear tights (usually black) underneath. I work in sales so I have an office, but I generally am out and about during the day. Would you find an occasional mini skirt inappropriate in this setting?

I wear a lot of short skirts - a few inches above the knee - in winter, but always with 100 denier opaques and either flat ankle boots or brogues. In summer I wear midi-length if going bare legged. I’m a lecturer.

MojoMoon · 28/12/2017 10:47

With very opaque and thick black tights tights, it seems fine and popular in my office in winter. With a woolly jumper and flat ankle boots usually.

I guess with high heels and a low cut top, it might stick out as a little odd in our office (because we are a fairly casual bunch and high heels would make you stand out anyway).

Really good thick tights can be much warmer to wear than some trousers which I think makes them popular as well.

I do, but I work in fashion. Grin

How short are we talking? I can't imagine much higher than a few inches above the knee would be appropriate for an office...

lanbro · 28/12/2017 11:18

I wear short skirts and short jumper dresses in winter but with thick tights and knee high flat boots...my customers seem to approve!!

Queenofthedrivensnow · 28/12/2017 11:19

Fine if you wear opaque tights I reckon. I've just bought a Lovely tweed mini in the jack wills sale it's so thick and cuddly it's hardly provocative!

riledandharrassed · 28/12/2017 11:20

I work in HR . Only with tights . Sorry , too much for the office

AlyTab · 28/12/2017 18:22

I haven't ever worn a mini skirt without tights (mini as in maybe 3-4 inches above the knee? I'm not sure).

I mostly wear belted knee length/Just past the knee pencil skirts with some court heels. I do suppose it also depends where you work? I mostly visit gp surgeries and hospitals.

Up to 3 inches above knee is fine. Arse cheek skimmer is not fine. I have seen the latter worn in an office environment and it's not on; no-one wants to see pants when the wearer bends down to open the paper drawer.

specialsubject · 28/12/2017 18:28

Fine with thick black tights and a knowledge of how to move without flashing your arse.

pollythedolly · 28/12/2017 19:01

I wear a mini skirt, leggings and knee high boots. Warm and comfy in winter.

AlyTab · 28/12/2017 22:33

😆 definitely not the arse skimmer I would wear in high school

I would look ridiculous in a pencil skirt and heels at work, because ot's a casual work place where the CEO and CFO wear jeans

I'm on the management team and often wear my leather mini skirt to work. No arse on show and only with thick black tights and flats!

Jonnyhotshot · 29/12/2017 00:13

Good evening I would say minis are great but in a formal setting go with a more formal approach any help with my 18 year old daughter would be appreciated!

TriHard27 · 29/12/2017 00:15

I do quite often with tights and boots.

chanie44 · 29/12/2017 06:15

I wear minis to work, but I wear them with thick tights. I'm short, so most minis are quite long on my anyway.

I do have s colleague who is 6ft and so most clothes are 'mini' on her. Like me, she wears thick tights or leggings and looks nice.

AlyTab · 31/12/2017 01:08

I'm pretty average height I guess, I'm 5'5" in flats but I do have long legs and a short torso, so sometimes short skirts appear to need "pulling up" according to my old high school teachers 🙄. That's the main problem I'm afraid of

ButteredScone · 31/12/2017 01:14

The length of your skirt is really irrelevant - it's about the overall look. Do you look like you are suited to your role? If so, no problem.

As an aside, there is no shame in legs so any weirdness about skirt length is just sexual prudishness dresses up. However, that may not be the opinion of whoever hands out bonuses so maybe best to tow the line on dress policy.

LemonysSnicket · 31/12/2017 01:40

No. Maybe a few inches above the knee is okay, but not a true mini skirt.

LemonysSnicket · 31/12/2017 01:41

Ah reading the replies I thought you meant mini mini. Like upper to mid thigh

stoplickingthetelly · 31/12/2017 06:47

No we're not allowed to. High school teacher and school has a dress code that says nothing above the knee.

Undercoverbanana · 31/12/2017 07:03

I have good legs, so yes (all I have going for me). Short shift dresses and tunics with black tights and Docs in winter. With bare legs and sandals in summer. I get very warm so can strip down easily when needed and keep spare sandals at work. I am 50 with grey hair, but slim and very sporty. Anything knee length or longer makes me look weird, unless it's skinny jeans or leggings.

Only if you are a stripper/work in a female exploitative workplace that mandates revealing clothing/work in Avery fashionable/hip workplace (but only like once a year in the latter)

I'm not a stripper, but I wear skirts a couple of inches above the knee with tights and boots.

Gosh - I work in a thrilling admin office. Does that count?

RhythmStix · 31/12/2017 07:32

RestingGrinchFace - what a strange comment. What do you wear to work?
