Babyliss big hair is AMAZING, why has no one on MN mentioned this before?!

Halo

Seriously though, I love it. I look like I’ve had a salon blow dry, achieved at home on a Wednesday morning with 2 small children under my feet.

Oh what is a sheer volume brush?

Annabelle4 · 27/12/2017 14:47

I absolutely love mine. I prefer it to a professional blowdry, although I hardly ever have the time to use it.

I didn't figure out how to use it until I watched a YouTube demo, but it's really easy now

Loonoonow · 27/12/2017 14:51

Deptfordgirl I bought the sheer Volume brush after SH raved about it and I love it too I have pretty much retired my BH.

I rough dry my (shoulder length layered) hair with an ordinary dryer, leave it for a couple of hours / until the morning so I am sure it properly bone dry all through, then section into 4 and run through with the SV like a normal hairbrush, rotating and lifting to give volume. I find it makes the hair very shiny without the frizzy flyaways I get with the BH. It doesn't give a flat, helmety ends curled under finish but a slightly tousled, flickier look with lots of root lift. Have another go, it did take a few tries but it is very quick and easy.

CremeFresh · 27/12/2017 14:52

I've just bought one !!

ShatnersBassoon · 27/12/2017 14:56

Is it any good for bob length fine, flat, flyaway crap hair?

Yes indeedy. My hairstyle looks intentional now - it definitely looks accidental without it.

neonpidgwidgeon · 27/12/2017 15:25

Thanks deemail, I'll give it a go

Lilmisskittykat · 27/12/2017 15:32

I've had one for years - we'll actually not the same one I'm on my third.. have a spare in the wardrobe.

I'm guessing it's just old news is why you didn't know.. but I was always surprised that consensus here was it was shite 🤷‍♀️

Methenyouplus4 · 27/12/2017 15:34

Daft question but which model are you referring to? Looked on-line and there seem to be a few different versions.

Also, can anyone recommend a good youtube tutorial shoeing how to use it on a long bob/shoulder length hair?

Thank you.

Longhairmightcare · 27/12/2017 15:54

This is the one I’ve got meth (attached pic)

Sheer volume? What is that then? I don’t want to look and take the shine off my lovely BBH 🙈

Is this another wonder product this site has been hiding from me Grin (🚩this is a joke, I realise the wonder of BBH is not a secret on MN)

papayasareyum · 27/12/2017 16:05

I’ve got one and it’s utter crap. I’m always suspicious when I read glowing reviews of it on the internet because it’s so useless and crap that surely only people being sponsored or bribed to promote it can be doing so?

CremeFresh · 27/12/2017 16:06

Noooo , don't say that ! I've just bought one Sad

Youcanstayundermyumbrella · 27/12/2017 16:09

I love mine. I had it years and used it a couple of times but couldn't work it out so it languished under the bed. And then one day I saw it and thought I'd give it a go with slightly longer hair and that was that. It gives my curly hair volume and shape and shine.

Maudlinmaud · 27/12/2017 16:12

babyliss big hair is my must have gadget!
But be warned, you will lose hair.
Also they break a lot, keep the box and receipt they will replace it for you.

Lanaa · 27/12/2017 16:12

I've got one, I used to think it was crap, but I tried it again at the start of the week and it's amazing. My unruly bob is smooth, shiny and looks like I've been to the hairdressers for a blow dry every day.

The think that changed my opinion was watching a YT vid on how to use it properly and some decent hair oil.

Hauntedlobster · 27/12/2017 16:13

I use mine to completely dry my hair, it’s geeat

papaya I was a bit worried before I received it after it appeared so many times on the ‘biggest waste of money/disappointment’ thread but I love it. Have you YouTubed it? When I first tried to use it the way I thought it should be it was a snarky disaster, but after only a small amount of practice it’s great.

collywobble, I use my BBH with micro ring hair extensions, and it's fine.
I sort of hold the section of hair which I'm drying on the side of them where I'm holding the BBH , if that makes sense: I shudder at the thought of that rotating brush getting tangled in the extension rings.

Littlehenrylee · 28/12/2017 01:31

I used this after every wash for quite a long time. I really liked it. But over time it destroyed my hair. It literally pulled my hair out. I have thick hair and it took me quite a while to realise just how badly it was damaging my hair. I'd advise using this sparingly.

EnidButton · 28/12/2017 02:49

I fell for the hype and didn't get on with it at all. It just got tangled up in my hair.

I'm prepared to give it another go on the back of this thread. Is there a knack to it?

TheHoundsofLove · 28/12/2017 06:23

I tried one when I had long hair and didn't get on with it at all. However, I have a chin length bob now and it is amazing for this - with minimal effort, I can get a finish as good as a professional blowdry.

OliviaBenson · 28/12/2017 07:29

Has anyone got the petite version? I'm tempted. I've also see the BaByliss pro hot air styler and I'm not sure which will be better for my bobbed hair.

deptfordgirl · 28/12/2017 07:34

Thanks Loonoonow, I'm not very good with my hair as it's very thick so I guessed it was me rather than the SV. I'll have another go and do what you do with it.

Longhairmightcare · 28/12/2017 09:23

enidbutton from my own, admittedly limited, experience if it’s getting tangled it’s probably because you’re keeping it too still. Try using it as if it’s a hairbrush and you’re brushing your hair slowly but firmly, but your brush head is rotating. This then replicates the action of a salon blow dry where they’re pulling your hair tight with the brush and using the hairdryer with the other hand. I’m not sure I’ve explained that very well (or if it’s how you’re ‘supposed’ to use it), but that’s my method!

Can I get a pic of the finished hair please? Iv never heard of it but I'm relatively new to mumsnet (1ish yrs) if it works I'm in, my hair looks so crap and limp and so much better with a bit of volume.
