I am in desperate need of a coat for walking in, and after multiple trips to the shops i am still no closer to finding one. (difficult as I have a new shape after giving birth 6 months ago)

I think I have narrowed it down to these two:

www.mintvelvet.co.uk/product/black-knit-lined-waxed-parka/12109

OR

www.craghoppers.com/inga-jacket-charcoal/

They work out at the same price roughly as I have a voucher for MV.

Im 5ft 4 and now a curvy pear shape

Prefer the mint velvet one

Gottagetthroughthis17 · 19/12/2017 19:00

Mint velvet, much more stylish.

festivedinosaur · 19/12/2017 19:03

Thanks! I havent bought a lot from MV in the past. Can anyone help suggest a size to buy?

5ft 4, currently a 12/14 on top, but my hips and bum increased massively. I tried on a few coats today in the shops and was ok in a size 14 in New Look, but a size 16 was more suitable in the coats I tried on in Millets...

These MV ones look quite fitted, but I seem to remember that some of their clothes can be a bit generous.

I buy quite a lot from MV and a 16 or occasionally a 14 is fine
I tried on that coat the other day and while it was very nice it was tight on my boobs (36dd). It was ok but wouldn’t have been with a thick jumper so I didn’t buy it

KiaOraAura · 19/12/2017 19:06

It depends...one is an autumn fashion coat which will look good but may or may not be warm/waterproof. The other is a padded waterproof winter coat. If its about which one looks best, then I'd go for the first one. If its about which one is practical to wear and will keep you dry and warm, then the second one.

Sorry, that probably doesnt help!

Jerseysilkvelour · 19/12/2017 19:10

I'd go for the waterproof one, much more useful.

ivykaty44 · 19/12/2017 19:11

Have you looked at landsend sale?

HonestlySomePeople · 19/12/2017 19:13

The Mint Velvet looks so much more luxury... Also, the faux fur around the hood is much nicer than the faux fur on the other one.

ILostItInTheEarlyNineties · 19/12/2017 19:14

The first one has a drawstring adjustable waist which I think is more flattering. Curvy pear shapes usually have a good waist! And you could adjust it if your weight changes.
I vote for the first one.

HildaZelda · 19/12/2017 19:14

MintVelvet one definitely. I think the other one is a coat for a slightly older woman perhaps?

PorpoisefullyObtuse · 19/12/2017 19:18

For a walking winter coat not too bulky you need to look at ilse jacobsen. I have a mint velvet parka a few years old similar to the one you have linked. It’s not a waterproof. It’s a wind breaker. The landsend coat I really don’t love. It looks really practical but a bit bland...

festivedinosaur · 19/12/2017 19:19

im 32 and usually like to think of myself as quite edgy / stylish. I seem to have totally lost that in the last year of pregnancy and baby though. (dont actually recognise myself when I look in the mirror)

My only good feature is my narrow waist, despite my huge arse and thighs.
Dont have a huge pear of knockers, so I look quite out of proportion.

Trills · 19/12/2017 19:19

The Craghoppers one BUT in Teal not Charcoal.

MaryPoppinsStoleMyHandbag · 19/12/2017 19:21

The MV one looks more fitted and a more flattering shape.

festivedinosaur · 19/12/2017 19:21

i like the isle jacobsen, but thought it was along the same blandness as the other one.

I do prefer the MV one for shape, but agree it might not be as practical.

Hoping with it being waxed it would keep me dry enough, and I dont plan on standing out in the rain for hours.

The Mint velvet one looks fantastic.

PorpoisefullyObtuse · 19/12/2017 19:25

www.julesb.co.uk/ilse-jacobsen-classic-softshell-3-4-raincoat-p805358

This in a million colours combos.

IHaveBrilloHair · 19/12/2017 19:26

Mint Velvet, it's gorgeous.

Atalune · 19/12/2017 19:27

Not keen on either!

But the mint velvet one. But...... if you wait a week then you’ll get some stuff in the sale?

Atalune · 19/12/2017 19:31

The purpoaefullyobtuse one!!! My friend has that and it’s is really lovely on, not too thick and a really nice shape.

IcelandicWarriors · 19/12/2017 19:31

Mint Velvet if you want to walk about town, the other if you want to do something more.

BikeRunSki · 19/12/2017 19:32

They are not comparable.
The MV one is lovely and far more fashionable - this is what MV is about.
The Craghoppers one will be warmer and more waterproof - this is what Cragjoppers are about.

Trills · 19/12/2017 19:34

If I were buying a nice-looking coat to walk around town under an umbrella, I'd get one that looked nicer than that.

If I were buying a waterproof coat, I'd get an actually waterproof one.

Bluntness100 · 19/12/2017 19:37

Mint velvet.

Ps. The Jacobsen one is gorgeous, I'd have bought that but it's out of stock totally.

RestingGrinchFace · 19/12/2017 19:39

The MV one really doesn't look any better. A puffer coat is still a puffer coat and it will never look stylish no matter how many zips it has. Get the one that is most practical-when it is cold and windy and wet you will thank yourself for it.
