Teen DS spotty forehead?

I’m rubbish at beauty products but want to help 15yr old DS sort out his spotty forehead. Confused about what to advise him.
He told me he used dove soap (no no no!) and know that he bought a harsh exfoliater, which I also think is a no. But what do I advise? He’s not got spots anywhere else, so it could be his fringe but it’s a catch 22 - he won’t trim it because of the spots...
Any advice?

He can use a gentle cleanser like cetaphil. Are the spots large or tiny red dots? If they are tiny dots on his forehead it might be fungal -- like dandruff on his forehead. He can use nizoral shampoo on the area.

He should be washing his hair every day as any grease or sweat will irritate it. But it's normal to have spots at his age. If they are bigger spots he can use 5% acnecide gel on the affected area but he will need a good moisturiser to go over the top (like cetaphil or aveeno) as it dries out the skin.

La Roche Posay has a gentle facial wash which sorted DS spots out.
I know when he hasn’t been using it as the spots reappear.

Also changing pillowcase more often can help. I change my pillowcases twice as often as the rest of the sheets.

I bought clearasil, only because that's what Sainsbury's had : spot cream and wash.
Both working very well for year 9 Ds1.

Oblomov, I’ve heard clearasil can be harsh and make things worse?

spotty 15 year old ds here too but he doesn't seem bothered about improving things. Have bought various products which he uses half heartedly. When I was a teen I hated having spots but he doesn't seem worried in the slightest.

The Neutrogena Visibly Clear Grapefruit cleanser is good for teenage skins. And he should also try some glycolic acid pads

He should wipe one over his face after cleansing. They're good at getting rid of spots, and they're very gentle despite the name.

It does sound like his fringe is the culprit so maybe he wants to try a different hair product to see if it helps. and yeah, he needs to wash his hair daily.

Reduce sugar, refined carbs and dairy and eat more veg! Not popular but it does improve hormonal skin.

Salasylic acid is known to help a lot of people. Other things to consider may be some disinfectant for his fringe, may help. Hair does the day to make it much worse. Then of course there is moisturisers and toners-witch hazel works a charm for teenaged skin.

Being cheeky here, so apologies OP!
I’m like OP and not ‘good’ with beauty products, but my 11yr old son is less spotty and more blackheads.
What would help him?
He showers every morning, I have tried exfoliates, the pore strips, cleansers to clean and toners to close pores, but his chin still has multiple, dark blackheads.

Try a product with salicylic acid in it LookAt like La Roche Posay Effaclar Duo. There will be cheaper ones about too.

It contains 5% benzoyl peroxide so may bleach coloured fabrics -- pillowcases, sheets etc. if applied at night.

Yes you can get cetaphil cleanser and moisturiser separately, they are both mild and good for acne skin. You can buy them from Amazon or Superdrug, I believe. I've suffered from acne on the forehead myself and those products have worked for me

I spent years trying different acne products when I was a teenager, in the end the only thing that worked was a trip to the doctor. They prescribed me a gel called Duac that worked absolute wonders and cleared up my skin completely. Honestly, cut the faff and just go to the doctors. With regards to exfoliators and toners, I would not recommend them - toners are unnecessary and dry out the skin, and exfoliators will just irritate the acne.

Acnecide worked wonders for my skin. It cleared up the spots I had within a few days and they never reappeared. I had spent a fortune on other products that didn’t work.

Over Christmas he could move his fringe. Whenever I have a fringe, I get spots even now!

I wouldn't use Clearasil-it burnt under my eyes, one worse than the other and 5 years on you can still see the scar under one of my eyes. Face wipes helped me a lot when I had the same a few years ago and hair wash everyday.

Sounds nuts but moisturiser helps my dd she just never fucking uses it 🙄

My DD has hadn’t miracle results from Paulas Choice products (mail order). She has a bha cleanser and a salysilic acid toner with a retin a serum and a moisturiser.

I was amazed it worked as my teenage acne was awful and resisted even GP prescribed medication.

Is he washing his hair every day?

Does he wear a cap, this could be making the problem worse as the head band gets grubby/sweaty. Just a thought.

I second taking him to the doctors for Duac cream.
Just took my Dd for her spotty forehead and it’s cleared her skin in a week. Honestly, just take him. Doctors treat spotty skin seriously in kids and won’t hesitate to prescribe the duac cream as a first remedy.
Free too!

Wash his hair daily.

Pin fringe back at night so air gets to it.
