Bootleg jeans - in or out?

Autumnsunshinebaby · 25/11/2017 13:26

..of fashion that is...not tucked into boots!
I'm in my mid 30s and grew up looking nice in bootleg jeans however I've recently come to the realisation I don't think they suit me as much now. What jeans look good on a size 12 hour glass 5 ft 7 post children body?! I don't want to be wearing 'mum jeans'!

I got some lovely black stretch bootcut jeans in tesco recently. I love them. I am bringing back bootcut as it suits me (tall size 12-14).

ZaraW · 25/11/2017 13:38

I would say out but if you love them then wear them. Wide legged cropped jeans are fashionable you'd have to try them to see if they work.

DontDrinkDontSmoke · 25/11/2017 13:41

I wear straight jeans instead.

There was a singer on Graham Norton last night with bootcuts on. I thought she looked dated.

Autumnsunshinebaby · 25/11/2017 13:59

As I suspected....(quickly squirrelling away the many pairs of bootleg jeans to the darkest depths of the wardrobe incase they make a comeback!)... Skinny jeans? Yey or nay? I love them with my winter boots on but always think I look a bit silly wearing them with slippers or socks (obviously indoors!)

DD 18 just nicked some bootcut/skinny flares from my wardrobe...maybe they're having a renaissance?

Mustang27 · 25/11/2017 15:52

Wear what you like. Who gives a flying if you don't fit in with everyone sheep. I do like a pair of skinny jeans though get some soft boot type slippers for the house. Basically uggs without the price tag. I wear my skinny's with dr martens or my converse out.

squoosh · 25/11/2017 16:02

If you've always worn bootleg jeans and all of a sudden don't love bootleg jeans anymore I'd try straight leg. Not as difficult to carry off as skinny jeans but don't look as dated as bootlegs.

MascaraGirl · 25/11/2017 18:25

Agree with Squoosh

Autumnsunshinebaby · 25/11/2017 18:43

I'll have a look for some straight legged ones, thanks one and all!
Mustang I certainly am not a sheep, just that bootlegged jeans don't seem to suit me anymore. The in fashion comment was more out of interest.

Out. Try a skinny, flair, straight leg or boyfriend.

whirlygirly · 25/11/2017 19:33

Out. And I loved them at the time. I cannot imagine straight legs will date quite so badly so my wardrobe is full of them now.

Mustang27 · 25/11/2017 19:36

Sorry @Autumnsunshinebaby I wasn't suggesting you were. Just more if you like them continue but as you are saying you don't feel they suit you anymore that's fine. My friend looks killer in them and still wears them, they have never looked good on me.

Fairylea · 25/11/2017 19:44

You’ll get loads of replies saying it doesn’t matter / wear what you like / etc etc but I have a teenage dd and there is no way whatsoever she would even entertain the idea of anything other than skinny jeans so I think that says a lot!

If skinny jeans really don’t suit there are loads of really nice wide leg winter type trousers in the shops that make a nice alternative.

PeachyCandle · 25/11/2017 19:55

I’m 32 and wore bootcut jeans until I was about 20, when I discovered skinny jeans and leggings, and I’ve never gone back. I did absolutely love bootcuts but I do think they’re dated, to me they have an early ‘00s vibe. I also don’t miss how they soak up the rain when it’s wet!

Autumnsunshinebaby · 25/11/2017 20:12

Big question now is where to buy skinny jeans that don't cost the earth as I'm crawling around on the floor with young children... shopping tomorrow!

I quite like the fit of £9.99 skinny jeans from New Look Blush. Last bought pre-baby (a year ago) but if they still do them, worth a shot. I think my next jeans will be straight though. I'm not sure on skinny anymore - like you, I've been wearing the same style for many years.

CountFosco · 25/11/2017 21:06

Bootlegs have been out for so long the fashion forward are wearing them again!

The following places continually get recommended on here for good cheap jeans: ASOS, Topshop M&S, Next, Sainsbury's. All about £20-30.

squoosh · 25/11/2017 21:11

All the hipsters near me are wearing 90s style jeans. You never see the kool kidz in skinnies these days.

Autumnsunshinebaby · 25/11/2017 21:21

Oh I am so behind the times in that case!

OP posts:
Moussemoose · 25/11/2017 21:23

But skinnies on the wrong figure look shit. Totally shit. Inexcusably shit. Bootcut in retro confident I know what suits me way can work.

I look crap in skinnies just about acceptable in straight. In or out I don't care. I look better in boot cut.

squoosh · 25/11/2017 21:28

Yes, skinnies are the most unforgiving trousers there are.

MsUnderstanding · 25/11/2017 21:45

They've come full circle. Cropped or high waisted now rather than over long, hanging over your pointy shoes with a tatty bit at the back as they were in the 90s

Gah81 · 26/11/2017 08:47

The only pairs of trousers I own are two pairs of J Brand mid rise bootcut trousers. They may be dated but they balance me out (am a pretty extreme hourglass) beautifully.

Elledorado · 26/11/2017 08:53

I sort of think you can wear any sort of jeans but if you style them in a frumpy way, they will look frumpy and outdated.

AmeliaFlashtart · 26/11/2017 08:56

Out, try straight leg or boyfriend cut.
