Leather jacket at 50?

onlyconnect · 22/11/2017 07:23

I’m seriously considering an All Saints leather jacket in the 30% off promotion. Probably the Cargo. I’m 50, Size 12-14. Would have to buy on line too. Would that be a crazy thing to do?

You like it, you can afford it, you buy it, you wear it.

Kitsharrington · 22/11/2017 07:34

Do it. Leather jackets are like jeans. Basics for everyone.

ilovecherries · 22/11/2017 08:08

Not sure if you are worried about your age, or about buying without trying. If the former, then it's a non-issue. I'm a fair bit older you, I wear mine a lot. If the latter, then it's easy to return if you don't like it.

onlyconnect · 22/11/2017 10:50

Thank you. ilovecherries it’s everything, age, cost , not being able to try it on. I’ve gone as far as putting it in my shopping bag but now I feel unsure again....

Enabled by ilove Wink I've just ordered the Bales. I'm 48

Which one are you looking at?

jenandjess · 22/11/2017 11:42

Size down! That’s the advice I was given in-store by All Saints staff. They’ll stretch with wear so your normal size will possibly end up too big. If you can afford to take the hit for a week, order both sizes to try at home.

onlyconnect · 22/11/2017 12:22

I’m looking at the Cargo.

I've just ordered Bales on John Lewis which is price matching. Have ordered 2 sizes! Easier for me to return to Waitrose as no All Saints close by...maybe an option so you can try on at home.

MarshaBradyo · 22/11/2017 12:38

Leather jackets are a style thing rather than age thing

So if it’s your style go for it

Greenteandchives · 22/11/2017 12:39

I have a cargo. Older than you by some years!😀

ilovecherries · 22/11/2017 12:42

Happy to have successfully enabled :). Honestly, I'm 60 in a few months and I'm tired of all the messages that older women get about being 'age appropriate'. We all know what's reasonable - possibly not bare bellies any more, not having our arse cheeks hanging out of shorts, not flashing a camel toe etc. But when it comes to a perfectly nice piece of outerwear, then it's not about age, it's about how it's styled. I love my all saints jacket, and ptoviding I can keep it out of the clutches of my student daughter, have every hope I will still be wearing it in another 10 years.

MaudesMum · 22/11/2017 12:43

I'm gutted - the one I want (Oversized Leather) is out of stock in large and medium. PS - I'm 56...

BuzzKillington · 22/11/2017 12:45

Do it! Leather jackets are not really worn by the young - they are the preserve of the middle aged imo.

I have a leather biker jacket and I am 47.

ExConstance · 22/11/2017 13:01

ilovecherries - Yes! I don't need a leather jacket in my wardrobe but there are all sorts of things I do wear at 61 which much younger women question o here as to whether they are age appropriate. It's just clothes, some suit you and some don't. I know I look good in dungarees and short skirts. I don't need the age monitor tut tutting at me. I'd agree that young people don't wear leather jackets, I think that they are mainly a 40+ thing, but you can carry on wearing one and looking nice until you are 90 if you want to.

PNGirl · 22/11/2017 13:01

I love my Cargo if that helps. I'm a 12-14 and bought a 12. My Bales is a 14 to allow jumpers underneath.

Almahart · 22/11/2017 13:04

It's really lovely only. Perhaps order it and try it on with lots of outfits at home?

I've been inspired by my super stylish SIL who is 60 but I know it is a big investment - not entirely sure myself

Almahart · 22/11/2017 13:13

PNGirl which do you wear more? Slightly swithering now! I wonder if the cargo is a bit more interesting

onlyconnect · 22/11/2017 13:42

I think it’s m going to go for it.

OP posts:
mehhh · 22/11/2017 13:45

If you like it go for it!!! My mum is 56 and has a leather jacket, she looks fab in it I'm sure you will too! Xx plus it's a winter essential so I class things like that as an investment Smile

Zoesweet · 22/11/2017 14:23

Leather jackets. You definitely can't go wrong with that.

PNGirl · 22/11/2017 14:37

Alma - The Cargo is newer (had the Bales 2 years) but if I had to pick one I'd say Bales. It's a bit more unusual than a biker - I like the buckled collar.

Helena17 · 22/11/2017 14:46

Nope, I think leather jackets are a hit specially when its an all Saints. Have several of those and I love them. :)

onlyconnect · 22/11/2017 15:42

I’ve ordered it from John Lewis. Missed the next day delivery window with All Saints.
I have started another thread which has no responses. I love an opinion if one of you could spare a moment. It’s on S and B and is about clashing colours for a wedding outfit

Thank you PNgirl

BubblesBuddy · 22/11/2017 16:29

They are worn by all ages. DD aged 22 has one with studs, one with a painted graffiti back and a pale neutral one. If they are your style, go for it. Loads in Zara and shops that sell to younger people so definitely for all ages. I think Massimo Dutti has good leather.
