My hairdresser has given me a mullet

Aaaargh I asked for pointy thinning layers. I've been growing out a short cut and finally got it past my shoulders. Now I've got a frigging mullet with really short layers. What can I do, really don't want to go shorter to sort it out...., waaah.

I had this style when I was at uni, it was fashionable then, but I struggled with it as my hair is very thick. Other than just wearing it down, I would wear it in a high ponytail with the front fringe section clipped back in a quiff, or half up half down. This disguised the short layers somewhat. I also found a side fringe helped to soften the look. Not sure if these are options for you. I’d also second the idea of wide headbands to keep the short layers under control. I didn’t go short, I just did the above and waited for the layers to grow down.

You cannot walk around in that clip. Nothing worse than scraped back wispy bits in a clip. Go back and demand the manager sorts it. You might need to go shorter to nail it though.

TSSDNCOP · 29/10/2017 14:42

Oh god just read you know the stylist. Well, you'll have to take yourself to a decent hairdressers.

OlennasWimple · 29/10/2017 15:21

Go to a decent salon to get it sorted out

Dustbunny1900 · 29/10/2017 15:31

beaver I like them too, if cropped lightwash jeans , huge eyebrows, and high waisted stuff is back, why not the hair too? Grin. I love layery choppy hair. Of course if you lived through the 80s I can see it feeling very out-of-date but the 80s ARE back and I actually think the hair can be modernized.

Oblomov17 · 29/10/2017 15:59

Go back and at least talk to the manager of the hairdresser. At least tell her. If you don’t feel comfortable that she is skilled enough to sort it, correct the junior hairdresser’s mistake, then go somewhere else. But give her the chance.

Candlelight234 · 29/10/2017 16:21

Is the clip really bad then? I had kind of reconciled myself to having it like this for a bit. The shortest layers are just on my ears. I'm bloody annoyed now, the worst aspect is she's not even a junior stylist

That alternative is gorgeous!

TSSDNCOP · 30/10/2017 09:37

Plan B looks like s grand alternative, but get a proper stylist to do it.

Candlelight234 · 31/10/2017 13:44

Got an appt booked at a different salon for Thursday.
I unclipped my remaining hair to show the owner and she was shocked at how it looked and agreed it can only be cut shorter to sort out. Fingers crossed!

The mullet is no more!! I've got a short cropped inverted bob and it's fab!
The new hairdresser couldn't believe the state of the mullet and actually asked if a hairdresser had cut it for me Shock anyway all sorted now, thanks for your suggestions !

Gladyou got it sorted, is it like the pic you attached a few posts ago?

Candlelight234 · 02/11/2017 20:16

Not quite as 'in' at the back but along the same lines. A vast improvement.

Looks really nice. Very thick and healthy.

(Really wish we had a before pic though.)

Comedyusername · 04/11/2017 17:31

Just read everything and so glad you got it sorted. Looks lovely. I had a similar experience before my brother's wedding where I was a bridesmaid. I had a cut and highlights (with the most senior stylist/manager) and ended up with a ginger mullet (I'm a brunette). I was there for hours and I cried when I saw the finished product. He was not amused! It actually looked ok on the big day as it was professionally styled but took months to grow out. A good hairdresser is worth their weight in gold!
