My hairdresser has given me a mullet

Aaaargh I asked for pointy thinning layers. I've been growing out a short cut and finally got it past my shoulders. Now I've got a frigging mullet with really short layers. What can I do, really don't want to go shorter to sort it out...., waaah.

Oh and this is the hairband I was talking about. They have patterned ones but they are mega expensive unless in the sale.

I think an inch off the length will help op. It’s not as bad as you think but I get it. I’d be pissed off if it were me, that is not the pic you asked for

MagdalenLaundry · 28/10/2017 20:33

I got a mullet last year.
It was my friends hairdresser and her hair was amazing. She paid for it for my birthday. When I got back to her house she just stared and said has she only cut the top?
It was awful. I went somewhere else and had the bottom cut shorter so it grew out more quickly

Lweji · 28/10/2017 20:35

You need a perm. Grin

Candlelight234 · 28/10/2017 20:35

Thanks Funkin. The headband is nice.
Mine is longer length than yours was but shorter layers on the top & side.
Can't decide between an 'emergency'short cut ASAP or clipping it up for 6 weeks to grow some of it out.

I'm sorry, but have we gone back in time or to an alternative fashion universe where knotted headbands are cool? Shock

Squashit · 28/10/2017 21:00

Clip the back and it will look less 1980’s mullet.

thats not a mullet, although it doesnt look like the second picture either.

Nothing wrong with it. I was hoping it would be more exciting than that. I was hoping fpr a pat sharpe

Candlelight234 · 28/10/2017 21:11

That pic is not me Bran That's another poster showing me her mullet.

Get your grunty teenage DS to edit your face out of a photo.

How about you wash it & leave it to dry.

PorklessPie · 28/10/2017 21:26

No advice but it also happened to me. I hate going to the hairdresser anyway but hate it even more now. I had hair down to my shoulder blades, asked for it sitting just on my shoulders with a few layers close to the ends. I was told this wasn't possible, wasn't a thing and she snipped away until my layers were up to my ears and more layers than length! I went to another hairdresser asap and ended up having it all chopped to just below the layer lengths. So the look I wanted but quite a few inches difference to what I planned.

zippyswife · 28/10/2017 21:29

This happened to me back in June. I made them give me a free Brazilian blow dry to tame the frizz and make it look less ridiculous while I grew it out and had it cut into a (free) decent bob last month. It really pissed me off and I had the front clipped back all summer but at the end of the day it is only Hair.

Holdtightdontletgo · 28/10/2017 21:47

I had this once, all wispy and straggly on the ends. I had to have it cut into a bob the next day when it ended up looking like a pudding bowl but still better than the mullet.

Dustbunny1900 · 28/10/2017 21:47

Like this or this? The 80s are back. Could you turn it into more of an adult “scene” haircut? Pics needed

Lweji I think lots of fashion come around and around again Wink

Candlelight234 · 28/10/2017 21:52

More like the first one dust bunny, but more scraggy on the ends ☹️

I’d definitely go back to the salon and complain, and demand your money back! No bloody way would I pay for someone to give me a mullet. Then demand that a senior stylist at the salon has a free consultation with you to advise you on what can be done to make the best of the current haircut and a plan of action for putting it right as it grows!

Dustbunny1900 · 28/10/2017 22:20

Hmm, well whatever you do don’t feather it or make it helmet-smooth, I think a mullet could be modernized with more choppy ends and body and worn with confidence! Can some side bangs be worn?
Or you could just go with a kickass short cut and grow it out. Either way get your money back I hope 😣

VivaLeBeaver · 28/10/2017 22:21

I like the hairstyles in Dustbunnies pics, especially the girl in the Bowie shirt. Is that bad?

Leamington99 · 28/10/2017 22:56

Get extensions fitted or buy some cheap clip ins? Ask the salon to cut them in for free as a goodwill gesture as they messed your hair up, or see if they will offer a discount on extension services

At the very least it’s healthy with no split ends so will be in a better position to grow faster!

Candlelight234 · 29/10/2017 12:54

I can just about get some of the front scraped back into this clip. I think I'm going to try an persevere like this for a few weeks. Front is a messy side fringe. So annoying after I've grown it too Angry

rightknockered · 29/10/2017 13:19

If you can scrap the shorter bits back to that, then it probably isn't as bad as you think.

Candlelight234 · 29/10/2017 13:22

Quite a few Kirby grips in the sides as it started to fall out! That pic looks better than reality, it's really scraggly & thin in the clip.
The stylist is a family member so I can't really go back & complain either.
