I'm getting my nose pierced in the morning!

Have wanted it done for years. Have finally decided to go for it as a reward to myself for losing 25lbs and 15st of useless boyfriend in the last few months.

Any tips? So far I've decided on which side I'm getting done and I know to:

  • have it done with a needle not a gun
  • get a stud at first (will be changing to a hoop when it's healed)
  • use saline solution daily to keep it clean

Am watching YouTube videos and wincing but then I remember that I've birthed 2 DC, one without pain relief so it'll be a doddle.......right?!

I've had both sides of my schnozz pierced and it is painful for a while after, be careful with catching it on clothing, bedding and towels, but you won't regret it!

You sound sorted on the aftercare. I recently got my first post-childbirth piercing (tragus - little bit at front of ear) having wanted it for ages and it was a breeze!

UnicornMadeOfPinkGlitter · 14/10/2017 09:36

Nose was fine. Weirdly it made the opposite eye water but didn't hurt and I'm a wimp.

I keep thinking of getting it down again. As mine never seemed to heal. Even after a couple of years if I took it out it would close up and not be able to get the ring back in after a few hours.

MrsDmitriTippensKrushnic · 14/10/2017 09:43

Hurts less than ear piercing imo. There's an initial 'ouch' as it goes through, and then when they put the stud in but not the longer ache I found when I had various ear piercings. Oh, and yes I found the opposite eye watered too! I've had it done twice - first time was many years ago and work made me take it out for business meetings so it eventually healed. People don't seem to care nowadays.

JoanLenin · 14/10/2017 09:51

Surprisingly it doesn't hurt at all. I was expecting some reasonable pain and nothing happened, not even eyes watered. I had to look in the mirror to see that the jewel was already inserted to believe it.
I only cleansed my piercing once a day with chamomile tea. Saline solution sounded weird to me so I never tried it. There is salt in it after all and I didn't like the idea of putting anything salty on a fresh wound. I would strongly advise you not to overcleanse it because that's when people get inflamed piercings.

JesusTapdancingChrist · 14/10/2017 10:34

Thanks all. Just heading for the bus now. Will report back once I'm done.

My mother is going to have an aneurysm. I think that's partly why having it done appeals 😂

As above really - keep it clean with a mild salt water solution, don't over clean, once a day is plenty. Use kitchen roll or similar to clean it, not cotton wool or cotton buds as you can get strands attached to the piercing that are hard to get rid of. Good luck!

JesusTapdancingChrist · 14/10/2017 10:46

Grey Do I need to buy the salt solution that the piercing place sells or can I buy it cheaper elsewhere/make it myself?

As I said above I just made a fresh brew of chamomile tea every day and cleansed with it. Cheap and works. But if you want to use a saline solution then it's better to buy the real stuff as it is pure. It's made with sterilised water and some kind of pure salt so it doesn't irritate. Make sure your initial jewellery is not precious metal but surgical steel.

JesusTapdancingChrist · 14/10/2017 12:17

Thanks Joan. I think I'll go with the advice they've given me, saline solution seems to be the go to method of cleaning piercings, presumably for a reason.

So it's done! Have a titanium BCR (ball closure ring) which I'm going to have downsized to a daintier one in 12 weeks when it's healed. The needle bit didn't bother me (apart from the crunching sensation of the it going through cartilage 🤢) but putting the ring in was pretty painful. Mercifully brief though and I love love LOVE how it looks 😀😀😀😀. Keep looking at myself in shop front windows.

Will post a photo when I get home.

You can make saline solution yoyrself. 1 tsp salt to half a pint of boiling water. You can keep it in the fridge and it will last 24 hours, just don't double dip the cotton wool.

Nancy91 · 14/10/2017 12:27

I have everything pierced and my nose made my eyes water so badly, it really hurt but only for a few seconds and it was over. Best of luck!

Nancy91 · 14/10/2017 12:28

Sorry, just read that you've had it done - can't wait to see it!

JesusTapdancingChrist · 14/10/2017 12:51

It really suits you OP! Whatcha gonna get done next Grin?!

niceandspicey · 14/10/2017 13:51

Love it!
I am a recent piercing addict....
Had loads done in my teens (nose, lots of ones in ears), and am now realising how fun it is all over again at 38.
Yay!

SeraphinaDombegh · 14/10/2017 13:56

It looks great! Good decision OP Smile

JesusTapdancingChrist · 14/10/2017 13:59

I'm 37 nice Grin. Sent ExH a photo and he said it really suited me. I agree. I feel like I should've always had it if that makes any sense?

It doesn't hurt at all now. Am just being mindful not to touch it/rub my face. So happy 😄.

Margomyhero · 14/10/2017 14:26

It does suit you OP

Hope it heals quickly.

niceandspicey · 14/10/2017 14:50

It looks great.
So nice that you can have a hoop in it from that start too, rather than a big ugly stud.

JesusTapdancingChrist · 14/10/2017 14:55

I know nice!

I was delighted when they told me that they could do it with a hoop. I hate how studs look on me (like you I had one as a teen - pierced it myself much to my mother's horror Blush) and was dreading having to wear one till 2018!

OP posts:
PinkBuffalo · 14/10/2017 15:01

I know nothing about nose piercing but You look great OP!

AccidentalyRunToWindsor · 14/10/2017 15:23

It looks lovely!

I want mine done but am worried about makeup getting into it

DearMrDilkington · 14/10/2017 15:27

Be careful when you wash your face, having a nose stud/ring getting caught on a flannel is not a fun experience. Shock

Looks brilliant though, really suits you.

JesusTapdancingChrist · 14/10/2017 15:57

Oh lordy Dilk I winced just reading that. Luckily I don't use flannels on my face so hopefully won't fall foul of that particular horror.

I'm terrified of accidentally ripping it out in my sleep or something though 🤐.
