How long?

I am 34 and my hair is quite long. I don't really suit short hair.

Nip · 07/04/2007 21:10

a few years ago i went from longlong hair to v.v.short (a mad moment of feeling down and needing a change) - i instantly hated it and began growing it back... so i'm interested what people think too.

PelvicfloornomoreChocolate · 07/04/2007 21:10

How long is it though Nemo?
Waist length or boob length?

FunMumm · 07/04/2007 21:11

I think that when you just tie it back in a ponytail, and don't bother drying it in a style... is the time to get it cut....

Hulababy · 07/04/2007 21:13

I don't style mine but don't tie it back either. Hairdryer (and styling products) makes the psorasis on my scalp more sore. Part of reason why I don't like shorter styles too much for me - styling would be an issue.

Needs re-cutting asap though!

FrannyandZooey · 07/04/2007 21:13

A few people I know lately have had their very long hair cut in a short style and my god they look fabulous

I think it will have to be my turn next

long hair kind of drags your face down, do you know what I mean? And very long hair very seldom looks really good IMO

I keep thinking this. I'm 34 have long layered hair with a fringe - too much hair to not have a fringe wouldn't be able to see without a fringe. Long like this it looks good and needs minimal styling be okay and can be straightened or fluffed up as and when required.

Can't have a bob - hair not straight enough

so if I go short it's got to be really short.

have an ace hairdresser fringe trim every 4 weeks

Have red hair so it's rather noticable - which just adds to general hair crises!

Bleedin nightmare......

Nemo2007 · 07/04/2007 22:19

My hair is just below boobs[well when they are not hanging by my knees]but very thick and wavy so tend to just scrape it back in pony as otherwise the kids play with it/pull it/it annoys me

noddyholder · 07/04/2007 22:21

Mine is fairly long and I'm 42 I don't suit short hair at all

FrayedKnot · 07/04/2007 22:21

I am 37 and mine is longish (just below shoulders) and that is where it is staying.

My Aunt is nearly 70 and still has long curly dark hair (dyed now, obv.) and she looks fantastic, she looks about 55.

bunnypeculiar · 07/04/2007 22:23

Funmumm - is a ponytail not a style?

Frascati · 07/04/2007 22:24

I am 32 and have hair down to my bra strap. I have long layers in the front.
I like hiding behind my hair.

Nemo2007 · 07/04/2007 22:25

I think if I did something with it I wouldnt feel so bad but I dont, dont even dye it anymore although 4 pregnancies one on top of other does kind of knock that out of you

It depends on the type and quality of the hair. I've always had quite strong dark shiny hair and frequenly worn it to about nipple length. But now I'm starting to go grey more and more and the texture / colour isn't as good so I'll probably get it cut to at least shoulder length.

Frascati · 07/04/2007 22:28

I think the biggy nemo is to have a good cut.
My hairdresser is great and puts some shape into my hair. Ghd's straighteners make a difference too!

tinkerbellhadpiles · 07/04/2007 22:33

Are we talking 'Cousin It' long hair or gorgeous cascading tresses. If it's the latter, keep it as long as it is in good condition.

I'm 33 and I have long hair and apart from my DD pulling it out, it's served me very well, people think I'm MUCH younger than I am (could be my petulance though!)

nulnulcat · 07/04/2007 22:33

i cut my waist length hair into a short choppy style this year (im 36) have currently got a "pob" but have decided to grow it again coz im getting married and want to be able to wear it up but quite like the short hair - so much easier to look after but my ghd's are liable to blow from overuse!! will no doublt end up cutting it again and resort to extensions for the day

Nemo2007 · 07/04/2007 22:34

my hair is dark shiny no split ends etc but then I dont do anything with it. I do have good ceramic straightners but with 3 under 3.5yrs just dont have the time or energy to use them as my hair is so thick it is at least an hour to straighten it.

newgirl · 07/04/2007 22:40

nemo - sounds like you fancy a change - if i were you i would cut it to shoulder length and get it coloured to match your best hair colour (semi) to give it a shiney boost. At that length you can wear it down without doing too much each day.

you could still tie it back on rubbish days

CarGirl · 07/04/2007 22:41

Nemo your hair sounds quite like mine (diff colour) now the youngest is 18 months doing something with my hair is happening again. Although I have to do something with my fringe every day! Just keep it trimmed and it'll look at the very least ok!

SlightlyMadSpringBunny · 07/04/2007 22:46

I turned 30 a couple of weeks ago. My hair is long (below nipple, above waste) and dull and spends all its time in a little elastic band at the nape of my neck.

I have my first child free morning in nearly a year on Thursday so I have decided I am going to the hairdressers - if I can decide how to have it cut. Can't decide whether to keep the length and have long layers to give it a style or whether to have a chin/sholder length bob. Will probably go for the latter as I think it will still live in a pony tail if I keep the length...

southeastastra · 07/04/2007 22:48

i'm 37 but find if you cut it shorter, it's more work and makes you look older, if you just let it do it's own thing it's easier to deal with

Nemo2007 · 07/04/2007 22:49

slightymadspringbunny I feel the same and I think I am semi yearning having to do something with my hair but then the reality of it scares me..lol Have in the past had it cut shoulder length but that is the shortest it has ever been. I have a round face so couldnt go too short or would look worse I think so I dont know what to do but am fed up of just doing the easy option of running brush through and ponytail or plait

if you're happy with the length of your hair leave it. I have long hair & love it
