Young women with very matte skin - why?

Just curious really. I often look at young women ( 16- 30 ish) and they all seem to go for really matte foundation. I know this sounds weird but older women like me choose foundations that give a glow, are dewy or are reflective. Why is is that young women don't like their natural glow and hide it under layers of foundation or powder?

We all did the same circa 1994.

It's just fashion (and youth being wasted on the young).

No It wasn't all your could buy! I'm older than you and I used to use Clinique Dewy Smooth then- clue is in the name!

It's odd isn't it. I came of make-up age in the 90's with it's fresh slightly shiny faces.

The current trends for thick make up and contouring fascinates me. And the brows .

Only the very young can get away with it, anyone over 28 looks a little corpse like.

I've always worn matt makeup (turned 30 this year) because I have quite oily skin and look awful if I then add shiny foundation. I don't wear tons and tons though. I think most "dewy" makeup on young women looks sweaty/sheeny.
My mum (65) uses reflective foundation and it suits her skin.

Very matt lipstick does look weird.

Perhaps because young skin can be prone to oiliness and they over compensate with the matte make up. I know when i was a teen all the magazines had tips on how to banish the shine. They always included using matte powders.

I'm going to go 'out there' with a wild and crazy guess that a) it's fashionable and b) they want to.

I don't like shiny makeup.

My mum who otherwise is fantastic at makeup used to look really sweaty on her face and I realised it was the makeup to look "dewy."

I honestly can't think why anyone would want to look Dewey/glistenening/shiny!!

I think dewy often looks clammy.

I think I mean oily. Don't you try not to make it look oily!

I have to wear matt foundation due to having really oily skin (I'm 30) I wish I could wear something dewy but I just look greasy.

The only one I could pull off was Chanels mat lumiere but they've discontinued it in the UK

most young girls I've seen are massively glowy with overloaded highlight.
I'm 46 and go for matte because I'm oily and extremely shiny.

Another one on whom 'dewy' makeup looks shiny and runs off by 1pm. Not good!

Also, younger people will have more breakouts, and dewy shiny makeup is utter crap at covering spots.

what has the best dewy effect without being a complete cover.. I loathe the feeling of foundation but need help finding a balanced skin balancing product.. now I'm almost 50...

Cause they're closer to being teens worrying about grease and breakouts than they are dry skin wrinkles and crepey-ness.
It's also the style.
I've always preferred more Korean makeup techniques as I find western IG makeup extremely aging and harsh..not to mention suffocating under all those layers.

Well lets face it they dont have to worry about enlargened pores and wrinkles for powder to sit in. I do think it looks horrible. The brows are just beyond ridiculous.

I remember matte makeup being standard in the 90s. I think I actually prefer it. The dewy look just looks a little bit clammy to me.

However, the EYEBROWS on young people these days I just don't get it - they all look like Angry Birds.

I learned to put on makeup in the 80s-I was a goth. You trowelled it on and the goal was to look as chalky and dead as possible weeps for teenage me with her flawless glowing skin underneath

I imagine it's because to them - glow = greasy. They may be young enough to associate shine with grease.
