I'm turning 40 next year - July. Still a long way to go, but thinking of buying my first designer bag. Although I don't really like bags - I like shoes.

What did you buy on your 40th?

Husband bought me a retro record player and the all the old vinyls I listened to in my youth.

Friends bought me a silver bangle.

I didn't buy myself anything. As I get older, I want less things I find

Oh dear... as I get older I just want more things! To fill a gap I think

Every big birthday (and every first paycheck of a new job) I buy myself a piece of antique jewellery.

I doubt I will buy anything due to me still being on a weight loss journey.

Me too Tehmina - but I want more quality things too, less crap.

First pay check in new jobs (and I have a LOT of new jobs as I work on short term contracts) I buy a new bag, but not designer or anything, most I'd spend is £100 I think. I had an inheritance about 18m ago and thought I would buy a designer handbag but I just couldn't do it when it came to it.

A NorthFace snow boarding jacket. It's bright turquoise which is my favour colour and was in the sale. Still going strong.

A trip to Paris for my 40th with lunch in the Eiffel Tower restaurant on my actual birthday.
Nothing for my 50th as my darling husband had died six weeks earlier. Sat in the garden drinking myself into oblivion.
For my 60th I don't know what I'll do but im getting lots of ideas from this thread
