and bought a fitted velvet blazer in burgundy. Found it on eBay, it's vintage 60's apparently (were velvet blazers a thing in the 60's?). Don't really care too much about it's origin as it fits like a dream and is in immaculate condition.

Have wanted a jewel toned velvet blazer since seeing Lorelai Gilmore wear a gorgeous teal one years ago.

Planning to wear over floral dresses like this although probably with semi sheer tights and docs for a more 90's look.

Do you think it would look good with skinnies and a vest/cami as well? Could be quite Christmas appropriate?

Oh I love it.

RussellTheLoveMuscle · 20/09/2017 18:32

Beautiful.

Fekko · 20/09/2017 18:33

Gorgeous! Mind any bags over your shoulder though. It cant be mended if you rub off the fuzzy.

imjessie · 20/09/2017 18:42

Don't wear it in the rain either😬

CountFosco · 20/09/2017 19:27

Gorgeous! I've been hankering after one for a while but seem to find lots of cord ones but no velvet Angry.

Floisme · 20/09/2017 19:35

That's lovely. I bet it's proper thick velvet too not the modern shiny stuff. If it's fitted it'll look great with skinnies and vest. Burgundy Sounds very Christmasy too - I want one too now!

Thissameearth · 20/09/2017 19:39

I used to have a teal velvet blazer (from Urbsn Outfitters) years ago. Loved it. No idea what happened to it. That shop is shit now though.

millifiori · 20/09/2017 19:49

Brilliant. That's beautiful. They were a big thing in the 60s and 70s and even in the early 80s iirc. I had a navy one in the 70s and then a gorgeous purple one that I wore until it fell apart. They were so fashionable then. Are they coming back in? I love velvet. It holds colour so well.

millifiori · 20/09/2017 19:54

Count Fosco Boden have some - I just googled to see who was stocking them this season. But they're nowhere near as nice as the OP's vintage one.

millifiori · 20/09/2017 19:55

OP is it silk velvet? It looks like it from the photos. I've got a vintage silk velvet opera coat. It's so soft and gorgeous and perfect at Christmas.

MsUnderstanding · 20/09/2017 19:59

I wore my DMs green velvet blazer in the 90s. It had huge pockets, and came with a matching flared skirt, which I didn't wear because it was too frumpy, must have been 70s, can't remember what's happened to it. I'd totally forgotten about it until this thread!

JesusTapdancingChrist · 20/09/2017 20:02

The photo isn't of me or my blazer (sadly for me 😂 I think it's the actress Emmy Rossum?). It's just to illustrate the look I'll be going for and the jacket pretty similar to the actual blazer itself.

Will take a few photos tomorrow when it's light again.

Love the sound of green as well Ms - might have to scour eBay again!

I want a velvet blazer

NormHonal · 20/09/2017 20:11

Yes! I have a couple of vintage ones in different colours and they're fab for chucking over pretty much anything especially around Christmas time.

One of mine was a man's one, a fab find in a charity shop years and years ago, and I had it tailored to me. Gorgeous.

JesusTapdancingChrist · 20/09/2017 20:25

Sounds lovely Norm. What colour is it?

I've bought a few men's jackets in variety shops over the years but the shoulder pads have always been huge and comical looking and I've meant to take them to an alterations place but then never got round to it.

Found a Paul Costello ladies tweed jacket a few years ago for £6 which is gorgeous and would work really well over tea dresses but it has the big shoulder pad issue as well. I'm going to take it to have them removed this week, you've inspired me!

Sounds lovely. I had four or five velvet jackets in the 80s, worn with DMs and a floppy velvet hat. I still miss them.

Theycalledmethewildrose · 20/09/2017 20:35

It is beautiful. If anyone else is looking for something similar, I spotted one on the Massimo Dutti website.

Nearlyadoctor · 20/09/2017 20:38

I was just going to say it's your type of thing Flosime but you're well ahead of me on the thread Grin

Trills · 20/09/2017 20:42

That is amazing, I want one too. Ideally in Cadbury Purple.

marjolaine · 20/09/2017 21:37

Ooh are they back in fashion? Yay! I have a vintage one that was my parent’s back in the 70s/80s that I’ll have to dig up.

EnidButton · 20/09/2017 22:04

I really want one too. One if the nucest things I've ever worn was a purple velvet dress in the 90's. I've seen quite a few velvet things around this season so fingers crossed there're more to come.

Squashit · 20/09/2017 22:08

I had a bottle green one in the 1990s that I wore with a ditsy mini dress and some clunky canvas lace ups. Teamed with opaques and choker naturally 🙂

Floisme · 20/09/2017 22:50

You know me better than I know myself Nearly Grin I definitely had a couple back in the day but now I can't find them. I moved house quite a lot in the 80s and I've a bad feeling they went the same way as the perfect grey cords dammit.

Hairq · 21/09/2017 09:59

Ohhhh, I had loads of vintage 60s and 70s velvet blazers in the mid 90s. They became a really popular 'alternative' fashion and you could pick them up in charity shops really easily. I loved them and worse them with everything. I had loads of different colours. I wish you could still find them in charity shops these days.

UntilTheCowsComeHome · 21/09/2017 10:02

I had a gorgeous velvet blazer in the 90s, from a charity shop.

It got ruined at a night club when someone spilled a pint of Coke over it Sad
