Cropped wide leg trews and footwear. Help!

I like my wide leg croppeds trousers and culottes, they suit me, they're (nana alert) modern looking. I generally wear them with my pretend Prada flatform shoes for work (smart casual), which has worked fine over the summer. But I'm feeling a nip in the air and am wondering what to wear with these wide leg croppeds in the depths of winter. I'm not feeling the opaques and shoes thing. But maybe I'm wrong? Maybe that's the way to go. What about higher-on-the-leg boots? Too much?

What is everyone else doing?

Ooh, interesting, as I too have been wearing culottes a lot this summer and have a couple that I think would transition (fashion wank alert) well to autumn if I could sort out the footwear. I have skinny ankles and size 7 feet so I do often run the risk of the golf club effect if I'm not careful. I don't think I could pull off opaques and shoes, sadly, although others might. I'm thinking about ankle boots that go quite far up the leg so that there is no gap between culotte and boot. Nothing too clumpy but with a blocky heel. I haven't tried this out yet but I think it could work. Must peruse Pinterest for ideas...

I like this look and have been waiting for the weather to turn to try it out. Minus the ugly coat in the first picture.

I know what you mean lurking. I'm not sure I could rock the brogues and opaques. A bit Nora Batty for me. I have crossed the line (of age) where I veer more towards Nora than funky young thing.
Although It looks great in the above pics. I was thinking perhaps something like the second pic type boot. I haven't had great success looking for that kind of boot.

Anyone seen anything like that?

I think it will work if you are young and skinny. If not then it may not look so good.

shedragon · 11/09/2017 14:59

fabulous do you mean the brogues and tights, or the boots?
I'm slim but not skinny. 10 - 12.

EraArils · 11/09/2017 15:50

I disagree. I don't think you have to be young and skinny for this look. I'm neither of these things and I like to think I look ok.

These women also look great.

Where do,you buy these trousers? I really like the look with long boots.

shedragon · 11/09/2017 16:23

Oh I really like those EraArils, although I'm not keen on the knee-high boots middle pic. Love the first pic - red head woman.

I like my croppeds and I think they're flattering on my pear shape. I have a pair from Gap (last year) and a couple from Zara ( spring this year). I think they do them all the time. The zara ones are culottes really, they're a bit flappier, but very flattering on.

Are they all with bare legs?

Zxyzoey31 · 11/09/2017 16:59

I have been wondering about this too. I won't do brogues as they just are too masculine for me.
I will do coloured socks/tights and shoes. I have some flats with straps mary Jane types which will work.
I think calf high boots would be great. I would like red flat soft leather ones but I don't think they exist here. I bet I could get some in France but I have no plans to visit.
I have some flat ankle boots - not chelsea boots and I am not sure if that is a good look. I must admit that I haven't had time to try it on and assess it.
I had a quick look on pinterest and anything seemed to go.
I think culottes are a great look.

shedragon · 11/09/2017 17:34

I love culottes. At the moment at least.
DH hates them. His taste in his backside.

Has anyone seen any nice calf-high boots?

I got these boots but no sure they will go with my cropped wide legged trousers. I might try them out and see how i feel.

Fishnet or crocheted tights (black), plus brogues or black Stan Smiths here. Once we get into boot territory I'm out - I think I'm too short (5ft 6) and the proportions just don't work. For me they need a substantial gap between hem and beginning of footwear or they look daft.

Floisme · 11/09/2017 18:24

I've been watching people doing this all year and I've come to like brogues / other flats and then just a flash of sock but not too much. So I'll be trying that out, keeping the trousers top-of-the ankle rather than calf length. I'm not too keen on them with boots just yet but then midi skirts and boots look fine so I think it's just about adjusting to it.
I have decent ankles and I don't see why you have to be young or thin to try it. Fashion's just a bit of fun.

Judydreamsofhorses · 11/09/2017 18:51

flo I can't work midi skirts and boots either. Which is a shame as I have a lot of lovely midi skirts which I only wear in summer. What am I doing wrong?

shedragon · 11/09/2017 18:51

Agree Flo, my fashion eye might just need to adjust to the boots or brogues/flats and some sort of sock/tights. We get used to looking at stuff. I thought those flatforms were hideous last year. Eating my words on that. Love them this year.

Nice boots Era. A tad high for me I think. Something like the redhead in above pic is wearing would be nice.

And yes I agree, age is totally irrelevant. As is size really, tho I do admit I am a bit size aware about myself.

At any rate it's a change from my usual ding dong clothes that I've been wearing for the last few years.

Me too, she - it's got me out of tube skirts which I've been wearing forever! I think if it's about anything, it's about your ankles.

Judy not even midi skirts and knee length boots? I'm going back too them too this winter Smile

Judydreamsofhorses · 11/09/2017 19:48

flo I think that may be my problem - I don't have knee-high boots and am generally an ankle boot (Chelsea or biker) wearer. Maybe I should investigate.

shedragon · 13/09/2017 19:47

Ok, so I've had a very quick look around. What about something like these &other stories ones? I know they're suede but what about the shape, leg height etc?

Or these ones?

OP posts:
RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 13/09/2017 20:02

Fishnets here, either nude or black.

shedragon · 13/09/2017 20:05

Fishnets?? Would never have thought. And what shoes Remus?

OP posts:
MulhuddartDrive · 13/09/2017 20:11

Micro fishnets are good with shoe boots, heeled knee boots (tan for me) or brogues. But I really don't like Chelsea or ankle boots.

Ilovewillow · 13/09/2017 20:15

I wear fishnets with mine and then a pair of loafers! Alternatively a pair of high heeled boots with a slim ankle of them.
