Looking for inspiration for a ring for 40th birthday, silver in colour, not gold, reasonably chunky rather than fine in design. All ideas welcome!

I love David Yurman.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 10/09/2017 13:04

I'm with Nap. Wouldn't dream of spending that much on a ring.

LostMyLunchMoney · 10/09/2017 14:37

I'm yearning for this one but I haven't got round to finding out the price in case it's way beyond my budget

I prefer to keep dreaming of it Grin

I don't know how anyone can advise you really. What do you like? Which colour stone? Do you like white gold? Not many rings worth £1K would be in silver- it's soft and bends easily sometimes. Have you looked at local silversmiths in your area- something handmade?

Go the John Lewis online/ jewellery/ EWA
lots of lovely rings there.

BritInUS1 · 10/09/2017 14:50

I love this one www.etsy.com/uk/transaction/1315158938

Under budget but I love Monika Vinader.

Just looking for inspiration really Polly, lots of people in this topic will know about brands I've never heard of.

Love the Monica Vinader rings!

I really like Wright & Teague rings...

DameDoom · 10/09/2017 15:25

You could get a few pieces if you want silver. I am a Wright and Teague fan. Nothing of theirs goes much above the £1,000 mark. All of it looks far better in the flesh than on their website.
I agree with getting a local silversmith to make you something.

Bluesheep8 · 10/09/2017 17:05

If you want chunky, have a look on QVC's website at the Alison Young anniversary ring. I've got the cz version of this (platinum plated silver) but there's also a white gold and diamond version. It's a real love it or hate it piece and makes a statement IF it suits your style. I absolutely love mine and it always gets comments...I'll try to post a pic....

Bluesheep8 · 10/09/2017 17:06

Just noticed you hadn't mentioned stones...and it is a sparkler...

CountFosco · 10/09/2017 17:15

I just bought a set of three stacking rings, one for each birthstone of my children. The stones are a mix of precious and semi precious and go beautifully together. When I was spending a serious amount of money I wanted something that was meaningful to me rather than just fashionable (although obviously a set of rose gold stacking rings is fashionable right now).

I was going to get white gold but it was a bit yellow and the designer didn't do platinum rings so I actually went with rose gold above silver because even though it's ridiculously fashionable it looked gorgeous with my skin tone.

BusterTheBulldog · 10/09/2017 17:20

I would get an eternity style ring to go with my engagement and wedding rings (you did ask if it were you!).

I'm also currently covering the love ring from Tiffany which is only about £200 I think, but not special enough for a significant Birthday

Nuttynoo · 10/09/2017 17:21

I'd go to a local jeweller and get as much 18 carat white gold and precious jewels I can get.

HollyBollyBooBoo · 10/09/2017 17:22

That is an epic ring Bluesheep8!

PastysPrincess · 10/09/2017 17:26

Fot £1000 you could get something designed couldn't you???

HollyBollyBooBoo · 10/09/2017 17:27

I knew I shouldn't have looked in Tiffany...now I want the Etoile ring...for a mere £2450!!

Any thoughts/experience on 2nd hand rings? Wondering if I should look to buy this second hand??

What about buying at auction, you could get something really special, just an example -
www.fellows.co.uk/1985-lot-110-A-diamond-dress-ring?accessories=&arr=0&auction_id=9556&box_filter=0&brand=&colour=&department_id=&exclude_keyword=&export_issue=0&gender=&high_estimate=0&image_filter=0&keyword=&list_type=grid_view&lots_per_page=&low_estimate=0&page_no=5&paper_filter=0&product_type=&search_type=&sort_by=&style=&view=lot_detail&year=
Or, a bit over budget - www.swaguk.co.uk/diamond-0-72ct-gold-eternity-ring?___SID=U
Or, well within budget - <a class="break-all" href="https://www.susannahlovis.com/rings-c1/aquamarine-and-diamond-ring-p3897www.daisyjewellery.com/rings/laura-whitmore/laura-whitmore-turquoise-plectrum-ring-medium-uk-n-silver#selection=material:Sterling%20Silver__18;ring_size:Medium%20(UK%20N)__36" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">www.susannahlovis.com/rings-c1/aquamarine-and-diamond-ring-p3897www.daisyjewellery.com/rings/laura-whitmore/laura-whitmore-turquoise-plectrum-ring-medium-uk-n-silver#selection=material:Sterling%20Silver__18;ring_size:Medium%20(UK%20N)__36
Or, if you really want silver, you could have £955 change, Laura Whitmore at Daisy London - www.daisyjewellery.com/rings/laura-whitmore/laura-whitmore-turquoise-plectrum-ring-medium-uk-n-silver#selection=material:Sterling%20Silver__18;ring_size:Medium%20(UK%20N)__36

PastysPrincess · 10/09/2017 17:53

Ooh I love those first two!!!

HollyBollyBooBoo · 10/09/2017 18:20

Eek there's one on eBay in my size - £750...shall I???!!!

OP posts:
LadyLapsang · 10/09/2017 18:24

If you buy from eBay it could be stolen.

RandomMess · 10/09/2017 18:28

I would buy something that you could wear everyday - so designed not to catch on clothing etc.
