Looking for inspiration for a ring for 40th birthday, silver in colour, not gold, reasonably chunky rather than fine in design. All ideas welcome!

Hollybollybooboo-you and I share the same taste then! It is indeed an absolute beauty, just so interesting to look at with all the different cuts of stone and surprisingly comfy to wear

OlafLovesAnna · 10/09/2017 19:48

Holly can the seller you show you a pic of the receipt to demonstrate authenticity? It's worth asking

MiniMaxi · 10/09/2017 19:55

I like Alex Monroe rings - inspired by nature and mostly much less than a grand

For 1k I would go platinum for sure, and consider some stones if that's the look you like

Happy shopping OP!

HollyBollyBooBoo · 10/09/2017 20:30

Been completely impulsive and bought it! Yes she had the receipt, sooo excited!

Platinum for £1000? You can barely get a wedding ring in platinum for that. Go secondhand. Far better value. Getting a ring made for you is way more expensive than secondhand. Depends what you want for your money, but looking at jewellers who sell secondhand is fun. Not eBay though from some random. You just don't know what you will get!

TheWorldIsMyCakePop · 10/09/2017 20:46

I'd get something in white gold with a sapphire

BusterTheBulldog · 10/09/2017 21:58

Ah lovely!

BluebellGal · 10/09/2017 22:12

Not a ring recommendation but head to Hatton garden - one of the more bare bones shops (rather than glamorous shops) such as Katz. You can browse rings and they can make whatever you want. They offer much better prices than local jewellers. I got a diamond ring for 1/3 price of local jewellers for same spec.

BluebellGal · 10/09/2017 22:13

Secondhand Hatton garden shops also very good

Liiinoo · 11/09/2017 00:59

I second Hatton Garden if you can get there.
I went there last week in a search for a quite specific style of pendant. Many shops said they couldn't supply anything like I wanted. But one small place understood exactly what I had in mind and it eventually cost half what I was prepared to pay. But be prepared for a bit of a wait - I was in the shop for an hour and a half trying on various things that weren't quite right until they eventually sourced exactly what I wanted from a supplier down the road. It was a fairly long, drawn out process but really I can't complain, a couple of hours trying on diamonds whilst a nice man brings me Costa coffee? Nice work if you can get it.

ScarletForYa · 11/09/2017 01:08

I'd buy an emerald cut moissanite. A very colorless one!

MiniMaxi · 11/09/2017 10:27

Glad you found what you wanted OP!

(Incidentally you can certainly get platinum for under a grand if you go to Hatton Garden. My wedding ring was £500)

HollyBollyBooBoo · 11/09/2017 12:14

I hope it's ok, bit nervous given what people have said about buying on eBay! It has a 14 day return option on it, so if it's terrible it can go back.

You're right about platinum, don't think it's as expensive as all that. You can buy a basic platinum wedding band from Tiffany for £625.

Thanks for all your help!

I think the ring you chose looks lovely! Second hand jewellery can be such good value, especially if you are buying from a reputable source (e.g. with receipt) and a 'name'. Love the ring too -- great choice!

A couple of my favourite pieces have been from eBay.

ShiveryTimbers · 14/09/2017 16:14

Did you receive it and does it look nice?!

HollyBollyBooBoo · 14/09/2017 19:06

Yes arrived yesterday and I LOVE it! So beautiful.

Thanks for asking Smile

Gorgeous! So pleased you found something you liked -- love it too. And a bargain to boot!

PassiveAgressiveQueen · 15/09/2017 13:03

If you have that much, get really white gold, it will last unlike silver.

HollyBollyBooBoo · 15/09/2017 16:10

It's platinum passive.
