To Ugg or not to Ugg?

I'm having an internal debate as to whether to get a pair or not ?
Never owned a pair but always liked the look of them, but are they worth the price?
Then I don't know whether to get the knitted ones or go for the classic style...
So, are they worth it? Or are there any better brands you would recommend?

The price is similar to Uggs!

ScarletSienna · 10/09/2017 11:42

They're expensive slippers (the original) and imo are not outside boots. They're just so so so ugly and look even worse after a few wears. I think they're on the same level as crocs: comfortable and ugly.

These are my first pair and were a bargain at £80. Just ordered some more as now just £50 plus postage. Thank you Unicorn81

I meant BARE not BEAR!!

DeltaG · 10/09/2017 17:26

Yes! I've got several pairs and love them, so comfortable and warm. Great for winter shopping trips. A few words of warning though;

  • Don't wear them out in wet weather or in snow as they are not waterproof. I spritz mine with water resistant spray, but still avoid wet weather.
  • Don't wear them with tracksuit bottoms, harem pants or any loose-fitting style trouser as you'll look like you've come out in your nightwear.
  • Darker colours are obviously more practical as they mark less easily.

They are of course in no way chic, but if you style them right, they won't look 'chavvy'. For e.g.

An alternative brand would be Mou, but they are no cheaper - more pricey in fact, but I like them.

I love mine; they've seen me through two winters and are still perfect although I do look after them and don't wear them in rain or mud etc. I've never found any other decent substitutes; they're so warm and so comfortable.

ElspethFlashman · 10/09/2017 17:46

Remember last year when we ALL bought the Wilcox boots during the Spring sale?

Good times.....

HerRoyalNotness · 10/09/2017 17:52

I bought my first pair last winter, classics but the upgraded Waterproof stain proof ones. I love them, so cosy and rash to get on and off

Bratsandtwats · 10/09/2017 21:22

Elspeth Those are my second pair. They're still in the box. I'll wear them this winter.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 10/09/2017 21:49

Look on QVC for Emu boots , they do some waterproof ones and no doubt they'll have some on a TSV soon (Todays Special Value)

I wouldn't wear them myself but they are popular in Essex.
And sadly the knockoff ones that offer no support , collapse on the heel and leave the wearer rolling in and walking on the inner upper. Might as well wear a sock Hmm

I saw Bearpaw in TKMaxx (no idea on price though, but much less than Ugg)

Last year I was in London, (winter) no-one wore Uggs, it was either biker boots, Chelsea boots or riding boots. (I do a lot of people watching on the train)

PNGirl · 10/09/2017 23:32

I had Bearpaw a few years ago and they were/are a scratchy wool blend lining rather than sheepskin. They also rubbed like hell without socks. I recommend Uggs or Celtic and Co. I have a 5-yr-old pair of each.

PrimalLass · 11/09/2017 21:43

I love Uggs and always think they are worth every penny. I have dark brown leather ones at the mo.

PrimalLass · 11/09/2017 21:45

How do people afford prices like £200? I couldn't justify it.

I always buy them in March when they are 1/3 of the price.

AngeloMysterioso · 11/09/2017 23:39

I've got a red pair and I love them!

mussinboots · 12/09/2017 00:09

Omg, go for ittttt! They came out when I was at uni years ago and I avoided them like the plague because every sienna miller wannabe girl wore them. I'm now in my early 30s and have hypothyroidism (my feet are constantly freezing- no matter how many pairs of socks I wear) and so bought a pair last year- I can't believe I've lived without them for so long! When I first wore them, I asked my husband "Is this how normal peoples feet feel?" Don't care what anyone else says- get a pair and enjoy being kept (very) warm. I've got the dark tan leather version. No buttons, whistles or anything. Nice and plain.

I have had 3 pairs of boots over the years (and they do last yearsssss) and I have the slippers .
The boots are not slippers ! Way too bulky.

I wear my last pair now for nipping to the car / bin in winter. I've debated buying another pair for a couple of years, I just don't think they go with anything I wear now. They are the most comfortable footwear ever known to woman that's for sure !

I had sand , chestnut & grey all classic .

SuperBeagle · 12/09/2017 06:23

I'm Australian, so of course I'm an Ugg-fan. I don't wear them outside often, unless it's for walking the dogs in the dead of winter, but I wear the Peter Alexander home boots all the time in the colder months.

They've got to be Australian though, so the official Ugg brand or something similar, because they're an Australian thing, after all. Wink

LooksBetterWithAFilter · 12/09/2017 06:58

Dd has a pair of classic UGGs and I borrowed them for a day out omg they were amazing. Felt like little pillows on my feet all day so light and so comfortable.
I have a pair of UGG ankle boots not the Wilcox can't remember which ones and while they are waterproof and weren't slippy in bad weather my feet were like blocks of ice in them. Was really disappointed in them.
I am a classic convert now to UGG all the way for me.

DuchessMinnie · 12/09/2017 08:54

I work from home and have Ugg slippers to keep my feet warm at my desk. I also have outdoor uggs which are amazing to wear, always with bare feet. Both pairs are starting their 3rd autumn/winter and they are only left on the shelf for about 2 months of the year.

I don't care if they're dated or chavvy- I like having warm feet!

HopefullyDothButterNoParsnips · 12/09/2017 09:39

I love my uggs. I have the grey ankle ones - always give them a wash and treat with the protective spray - they're on great condition and I bought them four winters ago - when styled with skinny jeans and chunky knits I think they look good.

dirtyprettything · 12/09/2017 09:45

I retired my classic ugg chestnut ankle high boots after 10 years last winter. I wore them every winter and they saw me through -40 in Chicago one year!
I bought the leather biker style last year and I worked the, almost non stop from November to March. Love them!

Dancergirl · 12/09/2017 12:19

I love Ugg as a brand. I don't like the classic ones though, they look too clumpy.

I have 2 pairs of the Arbree ones they did a few years ago, they're a much neater style. And I also have a pair of their leather boots.

Littlelondoner · 17/09/2017 10:55

I have a pair of the waxed leather classic mini ones. So comfy and waterproof.

I also have their snow boots the adrindack (sp?) So comfy!

I have my eye on the darcey lace ups currently. Lace ups sheep skin lined.
