To Ugg or not to Ugg?

I'm having an internal debate as to whether to get a pair or not ?
Never owned a pair but always liked the look of them, but are they worth the price?
Then I don't know whether to get the knitted ones or go for the classic style...
So, are they worth it? Or are there any better brands you would recommend?

Don't care what they look like, but don't like the price. I go to Costco and get their sheepskin boots for me and the kids to wear (eldest is likely dyspraxic and struggles with shoes, so it's crocs in summer and sheepskin boots in winter for him!) - my last pair went through two winters before I decided to retire them, worn pretty much every day.

They're not waterproof, but I use the spray, and as long as I'm not splashing through puddles, or walking across wet fields, they're fine, and they dry quickly enough anyway.

There's no denying that Ugg do make very comfortable and cosy footwear. I have 2 pairs of their leather biker boots and 2 pairs of the classic style. I don't care if they aren't considered 'stylish'. When my feet are cold then the Uggs go on.

I do love my practical footwear though. I almost exclusively wear DM's, birkenstocks or Uggs.

burnishedsilver · 09/09/2017 14:08

I live them but they're slippers. They're not really suitable for outdoor use.

TheFairyCaravan · 09/09/2017 14:12

Offcuts shoes sell ex display Uggs, and other brands, if people want them but don't want the price tag.

MsGameandWatching · 09/09/2017 14:17

I love Uggs and the last and last. I have two pairs of the classic ankle but in leather - one brown, one black. I have worn them each winter for three years and they still look presentable. I might replace next year, if I need to.

0ccamsRazor · 09/09/2017 14:19

I second Bear Paws, really comfy, wear well, but I also just wear them as indoor slippers, mine are about 3 years old and still going strong.

SinglePringle · 09/09/2017 14:23

I have 2 pairs. I wouldn't ever leave the house in them. They are slippers. Designed as such also. They are amazing but only for this purpose.

RhinoGirl · 09/09/2017 14:31

I like the classic ones, I think I may opt for a black pair. I had a pair of RocketDogs once they didn't last two minutes.

To ugg!

If you go on their official website, they have a sale section.

sortingmyselfoutslowly · 09/09/2017 21:20

I think they are too heavy for slippers. I wear slipped boots at home and classic ugg boots on a dry day or leather ugg (Kensington) on a wet day. So cosy and comfortable. I have other boots too but always prefer ugg.

Fourlittlethings · 09/09/2017 21:23

I got their biker boots last year .... I love love lve them!

TheNewMrsTomHardy · 09/09/2017 21:30

I have 6 several pairs and I love them. I also have a pair of the slippers, which I've had for a looooong time and they still look perfect.
They may be considered "chavy" but I don't care. I can't wait until it's cold enough to get them on.

Haffiana · 09/09/2017 21:37

I put 'em on in the Autumn and take 'em off in the Spring...!

I have several styles - classic, ankle, biker and my favourites, the urban-type leather styles which are slim, waterproof and still lined with sheepskin. Never liked those cardigan ones but I don't think they make them anymore? I wear my Uggs with skirts and dresses as I rarely wear jeans.
I am baffled by anyone describing them as slippers - the very short ones perhaps? I find genuine Uggs far less wide and clumpy than the other brands such as Celtic, Emu etc etc, which is important to me as I wear them over tights. They look great with skinny jeans too.

Judydreamsofhorses · 09/09/2017 21:40

I inherited a "classic" pair from my mum about eight years ago who bought them and didn't like them after a few wears - I wore them as slippers but was quite happy to nip out for milk or whatever in them. They finally split at the side earlier this year and I would buy another pair for the same purpose. I have leather biker ones (Simmens) which I bought last year for tramping to and from work in the rain. I don't love them in terms of how they look, but they are super-comfy and waterproof.

silkpyjamasallday · 09/09/2017 22:24

I wanted to hate them, and did until I put a pair on my feet. They are heavenly, my first pair survived 9 years of heavy use. I was slightly put off them by a girl at uni commenting on a day I wore uggs that I was 'brave' to come to lectures in my pyjamas, I think she was just a nasty person and this was a not so subtle put down so I took no notice, at least my feet were comfy and warm.

I recently got a new pair as my father was in Australia and he brought back a pair each for my one year old daughter and I. I wear my black super short pair with leggings/skinnies and a long jumper or hoodie on lazy days. I've never tried a cheaper alternative as they have lasted so so well that the cost per wear must be pennies by now so I think they are worth the money personally and will continue buying them into my old age.

dudsville · 09/09/2017 22:29

Uggs womens mini abree in leather are nice outdoor uggs.

over40andpregnant · 09/09/2017 22:30

A bit dated now aren't they ?

DancingLedge · 09/09/2017 22:33

So cosy and warm.

Asked DD 's opinion : " ultimate chat, innit"
Do I care? No

Sallystyle · 09/09/2017 22:43

The biker boots are great.

My Wilcox are still going strong and just look better with age.

I wouldn't wear the slipper ones but their boots are fantastic.

LinaBo · 09/09/2017 22:47

SpaghettiAndMeatballs, do they last well? DH bought me a pair this week (children's ones Blush) and they are very comfy but I was wondering if it was worth using some sort of water repellent treatment on them.

WomblingThree · 10/09/2017 01:18

@PoisonousSmurf, chavvy is as chavvy does. Wearing a pair of boots does not define you.

I love Uggs, but for the classic style I went with Bearpaw as the soles are much more substantial. I've got a black pair and a purple pair that were about £30 from TKMaxx, six years ago. I've got a pair of brown Kensingtons and a pair of pale grey suede bikers which I paid around $70 a pair for in the Ugg Outlet in Orlando. I also got a bright pink short pair for $20 that I wear as slippers. I've had all of them for 8 years and they are in perfect condition.

Along with the rest of MN I bought the cheap Wilcox boots last year but annoyingly had to return them as I was between sizes. I really can't justify another pair, but I'm hoping for another seriously cheap pair in the sales (just not Wilcox again).

Unicorn81 · 10/09/2017 10:31

Never got the hype until i bought some in Florida. I now have slippers and 4 pairs of boots in various colours. They are so comfy, cosy and easy to wear. They all still look like new even though worn a lot. Ive just bought some buckle ones from m and m direct too for work 😁

3DGlasses · 10/09/2017 10:56

They are incredibly comfortable and lovely and warm. But high fashion they aint!

If you've got £150 to send on slippers, do so by all means Grin

astoundedgoat · 10/09/2017 11:30

I love mine, but they are slippers. I would never wear them out of the house.

Bluesheep8 · 10/09/2017 11:37

I prefer Emu boots to Uggs for a couple of reasons-1. They are waterproof (some of the designs) and 2. The sheepskin insoles are removable for washing. Again, they are to be worn with bear feet, I can't help imagining that Uggs must get a bit stinky! Blush.QVC is the best place to get them as they often have a pay monthly offer, the pro e is similar go Uggs I think
