URGENT needed for Sunday! Dress code white & a hint of gold

HELP!!! Truly desperate! DH has just phoned to say we've been ordered invited to his super wealthy boss's house for party at the weekend. Think really really wealthy, blinged up to the nines. Saying no is not an option.

I have nothing in my wardrobe that meets this dress code. Nothing. I have fortunately just lost weight, and am about a size 12 maybe 14, 5'8", blonde hair, mid-50s. I've looked everywhere online for something white that I could put a little gold on - eg., jewellery, sandals whatever. So far, the only thing I've found that doesn't look like a lace dress (hate those), or a wedding dress, is this jumpsuit. What do you think? Do a gradual tan over the next couple of days so I don't look like a ghost, or does someone (oh God please) have some other suggestions. Willing to pay up to £400.

It's in the south of France, just to ramp up the looking good pressure.

may be totally on the wrong track but
This?

bookbook · 05/09/2017 16:24

suddenly realised that the one I linked to is floor length, maybe not suitable after all

ChinUpChestOut · 05/09/2017 16:35

NC4now I think the fabric in the jumpsuit is too cotton-y, and although I liked the 2nd jumpsuit, it would be better if the legs were full length sort of sweeping the floor. Culottes don't work for me as my legs aren't especially long.

So the jumpsuit is OK? I wonder if I should order it, to try it out? I've ordered the Diane V Furstenberg dress, as it seems to fit the bill - not too clingy, not too too short.

What kind of sandals do you think I should wear? Was tempted by gold sneakers, actually - like these marc jacobs ones and then I thought, maybe gold and clumpy too clumpy? I think I'm starting to get grumpy, having to spend all this money for a party that's not going to be full of my friends, and I won't exactly be able to throw a few drinks down my neck as DH will go ballistic if I get accidentally hammered. Sigh. This corporate wife thing so isn't me.......

Do you suppose it's too early for Wine?

I think the Diane F dress looks really expensive and is flattering but you would need a heel with it really, unless you absolutely hate heels or can't wear them.

ChinUpChestOut · 05/09/2017 16:39

Like the pleated metallic one - clever idea, that, in rose gold, but the length probably needs to be closer to my ankles or my legs look a bit stumpy. The white John Lewis dress is too bridal - truly would never wear it again (--unless stress over this fucking party causes me to divorce DH and marry someone else-...).

Dithering over ordering the jumpsuit as well.

I really can't thank you Stylistas enough - such a relief having all these other suggestions thrown out there. Really helps me able to work out what I might want, and what won't work.

Yep, looks white and gold to me!😁

ChinUpChestOut · 05/09/2017 16:41

Oh Faez I love it!!!! Why didn't I think of that? Grin

I like the coast jumpsuit from HoF and the reiss one.

I don't like the wolf and badger one at all, the drapery front bit is just a bit odd.

I think if you go with the reiss jumpsuit then a gold block heel sandal would look good, gold clutch and no other accessories.

Not completely white but that's kind of the point. You don't want to look ok like you have gone out a bought a dress specifically for the occasion. These 'white' parties are ghastly, and so passé.

ChinUpChestOut · 05/09/2017 17:39

Ttbb "passé" you say? Hmmmm you may think so, but I couldn't possibly comment.....Grin

(given that he's DH's boss, I think a white party is a fabulous idea. Perfect for showing off your tan when you've been on your yacht all summer Hmm).

The Reiss jumpsuit would be my pick OP, I got one for a couple of weddings this year and it's so comfortable and flattering

NC4now · 05/09/2017 18:26

I'm a big jumpsuit fan but I'm not sure about the Wolf & Badger one. Maybe order it and see, but I think I'd want a plan B.

Blodplod · 05/09/2017 18:30

Personally for me I like the first jumpsuit you picked, with the Reiss one second..

TitaniasCloset · 05/09/2017 22:46

Love the gold sandals, they look comfortable too.

PovertyJetset · 07/09/2017 10:35

Have you got an outfit? Smile

Silverstreaks · 07/09/2017 12:29

The Diane v. Furstenberg dress is lovely. Def suitable for a pear shape, I'd wear it in a heartbeat.

Dancinggoat · 07/09/2017 12:36

These are from next online.

Yes, my lovely MNers, I ordered the Diane v. Furstenberg dress and it's sooooo flattering on me. I never usually even think of white as an evening colour and it's fab. It's a little big around the armholes, and I'm going to do a couple of emergency stitches to take it in a little bit.

I ordered these bronze Dune sandals and they've arrived as well. I love them. I've been tottering around the house in them, and they're probably going to kill my little toes - any tips on how to best protect them (my toes, not the sandals)?

I've been defurred and plucked, and have a mani/pedi tomorrow. My beautician friend has leant me some fabulous Guinot gold oil, which makes your legs look super shiny and a bit bronzed. I tried to get emergency highlights, but I've pretty much run out of time. I have, however, managed to book a hairstylist to come to the hotel room beforehand so I can have an up-do. I just need to get some dangly gold earrings and that's it for jewellery. No point trying to compete with all the bling that will be there!

I will try to get DH to take a photo so you can see the final result of ChinUp styled by S&B, faking it in the South of France......
