Do all black skinnies look like leggings?

ZaZathecat · 01/09/2017 16:18

I really want a pair that look like jeans, i.e. visible stitching and a bit of stretch but not so much that my shape wins the battle against them. I have tried the much loved Topshop Jamies and I look like I might as well be in a pair of Sainsburys black leggings.
Any suggestions?

pinkblink · 01/09/2017 16:29

Thank pinkblink. I've been dismissing ones that actually call themselves leggings as it sounds exactly what I don't want, but I'll check out the Next ones when I'm in town.

Gap do some really nice ones.

ZaZathecat · 01/09/2017 16:37

Thanks nutty I'll look in Gap too.

Hmm I agree that super thin stretchy black jeans are v unflattering. Ive tried next & gap and not had much luck. Have you looked in zara? I generally have luck with jeans there but havent looked for plain black skinnies recently

ApuskiDoo · 02/09/2017 10:49

Boden do some

Elledorado · 02/09/2017 10:50

(The old style jamies were great)

ZaZathecat · 02/09/2017 14:14

Eldorado I don't usually venture into Zara after trying jackets on in there once and finding the Large too tight (I'm a 10-12), but maybe I should go back!
Will have a look at Boden Ap.

H&M do some skins that are 'shaping' sorts that I love. I think they're £39.99 and they're brilliant. Stretchy enough to give but jean-like enough to not show lumps and bumps. Couldn't ask for a better pair.

I got some skinny black jeans in The Levi Shop and they definitely look like jeans. I am shocked that they haven't started to fade - they are as black as the day I bought them.

ZaZathecat · 02/09/2017 17:51

Thanks for the tips Who and Dame. I'll report back when I've tried some of these on (which won't be for several days - bet you're on tenterhooks!)

You're welcome Zaza. I have had mine for a year. Avoid anything with too much lycra - it might be a bugger getting in to them at first but they won't look like leggings. I am really impressed with Levis - hadn't ventured in for about 20 years but they are every bit as good as some designer brands.

Mellington · 02/09/2017 17:59

Tommy Hilfiger or American Eagle for skinny jeans. I can't work out how jeans would look like leggings though!

MyPuppyIsADick · 02/09/2017 18:05

River Island Molly jeans are amazing Smile

SpuriouserAndSpuriouser · 02/09/2017 18:07

I really like the river island Amelie jeans - I think that's what they are called! I have two pairs in black and I haven't ever thought that they look like leggings.

hiccupgirl · 02/09/2017 20:37

Second the Next legging jeans - visible seams and fit well.

Ellapaella · 02/09/2017 20:42

Maybe you should try slim fit instead of skinny fit?

custardcreamplease · 02/09/2017 21:31

Asos have some good ones, well they did a while back...I bought some and they're great, and I felt the same as you

StatueInTheSky · 02/09/2017 21:40

tesco/F&F have a range of Contour jeans....they are lovely, super smooth and very stretchy but stay put (mostly!...try them on first) denim is a nice weight too

i got super skinnies ankle grazers in a 16 in the sale and loved them so much i went back next day and bought a pair of normal high rise skinnies for full price £22, only thing is I do need a belt ...i think the skinnies are a little more generous than the super skinnies.

the high rise is lovely, no midriff hanging out, no hauling them back up after every bend or step

AND i went back AGAIN and got black ones in a 14, they give me a bit of a muffin, but not enough to take them back for a 16 and I don't need a belt wit the 14 ....and i am low carbing and shrinking any way!

OuchLegoHurts · 03/09/2017 09:18

Definitely River Island high waisted skinny jeans...I have them in 3 colours but the black ones are the most stiff, well structured ones. They are jeans but they pull my tummy in and are nice and high so no muffin top

dancingqueen345 · 03/09/2017 09:27

I've been a Topshop jeans fan for years but have recently switched to Oasis after randomly picking up a pair and loving them!

ememem84 · 03/09/2017 10:08

I buy m&s 5 pocket jeggings. I was sceptical. But they're great!

ZaZathecat · 03/09/2017 10:54

My current 'best' indigo jeans are the M&S 5 pocket leggings em, but they don't call them that anymore. I tried the closest style I could find in there in black but they did look leggings-y - not like the indigo ones.
The River Island ones sound good Ouch, I'll definitely try those.
Mellington maybe it's just me, but if the black jeans have too much stretch and not much visible jeans-style stitching all I can see is the shape of my legs and body. Actually it's probably because, although quite slim, my legs are kind of... flabby I suppose (despite regular exercise) so I need a bit of structure to give them a nice shape.

And thanks for all the other suggestions too.
