An in between coat, warm-ish and waterproof

Autumn is nearly here. I need a coat/jacket that'll see me through that time between summer and no coat, and winter and my big snuggly parka.

Waterproof or at least water resistant is good for the school run
Casual is good as I work from home

Any ideas?

These www.protected-species.com/shop/ are worth every penny

Mumof3wunnerfuls · 01/09/2017 08:24

Hi. What r u looking to spend?

Joules have some nice ones.
A couple years ago I bought a lovely 3/4 length with 3/4 length sleeves and I always get comments on it.
It was primark Grin however I've never seen anyone else in one. That pleases me

Squirrelfruitandnutkin · 01/09/2017 08:36

Ideally under £100. Those protected species ones are nice but too £ and possibly look better on tall models rather than my 5foot 2 self.

I just got an Ilse Jacobsen coat and I absolutely love it - waterproof, light and I think looks pretty smart. Has a good size hood too

MumBod · 01/09/2017 08:46

I second the Ilsa Jacobsen recommendation. Beautifully cut.

multivac · 01/09/2017 13:45

I tried this on yesterday (while stocking up on school shirts, which is normally the only reason I set foot in Next), and fell suddenly, surprisingly, in love. I needed to go a size smaller than usual, though, to get the fit right.

multivac · 01/09/2017 13:46

(Good for a shortarse, too; which I'm not sure would be the case for the Ilsa Jacobsen coat, gorgeous though it is)

Wenchelda · 01/09/2017 15:47

I have this one from Lands End in the khaki colour. I'm only 5ft 2 as well and was worried this would be too long as the petite wasn't available in my size but the length is fine (comes above my knee). Sleeves are slightly too long but nothing major, plus it has adjustable cuffs to help them stay up too.

annoyed as there's now a £10 off offer which wasn't there when I bought I it

BarchesterFlowers · 01/09/2017 15:52

I bought one from Lands End in the sale - no longer available but there are a few waterproof coats left in the sale. Mine is guaranteed waterproof for life, taped seams, really good quality.

Squirrelfruitandnutkin · 01/09/2017 17:32

I think I need a shorter jacket. I'm too short.
Maybe this joules coast jacket. www.joules.com/Women/Jackets-Coats/Coast/Waterproof-Jacket/French-Navy?id=X_COAST|FRNAVY

But maybe it's too dull. I don't know. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I tried the uniqlo block tech coat last week. Really wish it had for me properly as I otherwise loved it

MulhuddartDrive · 01/09/2017 18:30

Fit, not for

Butterfly1975 · 01/09/2017 19:01

I have a Joules Coast coat. Love it as its completely waterproof but often feel like a bit of a sheep wearing it as there's so many around Blush

Love the Next one linked above in sage Smile

Holidayhooray · 01/09/2017 19:02

Third Isle Jacobson

Stellato · 01/09/2017 20:15

I have a uniqlo block tech coat that I really like, but it's very lightweight, it won't keep you warm at all.

I also have an Ilse Jacobsen trench on the way now, which I blame this thread for Grin

BarchesterFlowers · 01/09/2017 21:47

I am such a numpty - my new coat was from sea salt, not lands end (which was why I couldn't see it!), anything here??

www.seasaltcornwall.co.uk/waterproof-jackets-raincoats/all-rain

Mine was a true north Mac. I love it.

Squirrelfruitandnutkin · 02/09/2017 09:05

I like the seasalt ones too, probably a seafolly, maybe a bowspirit, but think it might be too long...

I bought the yellow Next one (above) and it's the most in love I've been with a new coat in ages!

MrsJW15 · 03/09/2017 22:19

@multivac - love that Next coat. Does it have a hood?

minipie · 03/09/2017 22:28

I'm 5'3 and have the uniqlo block tech coat. It's thin but does give some warmth.

I find most shorter style coats come to a really unflattering length on me (widest part of thigh!) which makes me look even shorter

Ilse Jacobsen does look good - any reviews from short people?

multivac · 04/09/2017 09:55

@MrsJW15 - yes, it does!

MrsJW15 · 04/09/2017 19:52

Thanks @multivac! (Wish they'd say that. I need a hood!)

Stellato · 09/09/2017 08:00

The Ilse Jacobsen trench arrived. Waterproof and very nice looking, but not at all warm. The search for an autumn coat continues, sigh.

ZenNudist · 09/09/2017 08:06

I have a couple of joules coats and they are good for keeping rain off but not warm.

dramallamakarma · 09/09/2017 08:12

m.boden.co.uk/en-gb/womens-coats-jackets/jackets/t0043-blu/womens-dark-blue-whitby-waterproof-jacket

How about this one? I buy Boden coats for my DC & they always last well. If you can wait there's normally discount codes every few weeks too.
