An in between coat, warm-ish and waterproof

Autumn is nearly here. I need a coat/jacket that'll see me through that time between summer and no coat, and winter and my big snuggly parka.

Waterproof or at least water resistant is good for the school run
Casual is good as I work from home

Any ideas?

One of my friends has this from Next and it's lovely. Photos don't do it justice. I'm annoyed I can't really buy one myself now that she's got it.

I've got a Seasalt one which is made in a fabric which doesn't look too waterproof (I think they call it tin cloth?) but it absolutely is, and is cotton-lined as well so not too sweaty. Most of their styles come in different lengths, so you should be able to find something that fits. I've just checked and mine's a bowsprit. They're not cheap, but they do have sales and they do last, and can also be re-waterproofed, I've just realised. I live in mine in spring and autumn (and wet summer days...`)

I'm a short ilse jacobsen lover! Usually get a couple of inches taken off the sleeves at the alterations place - but I do that with every jacket I buy

Where are people buying the ilse Jacobson coats from?

Jaimx86 · 10/09/2017 12:30

How have I never heard of Isle Jacobson. Wow! I love it all. Thanks to this thread I have my birthday wish list sorted Smile
Sports Direct (of all places!) have a yellow coat in similar to the Next one above. I ordered it to walk the dog in, but like it so much I've worn it whenever I can this week. It's reduced from £75 to £29. www.sportsdirect.com/gelert-coast-jacket-ladies-446049?colcode=44604913&src=google&gclid=Cj0KCQjwxdPNBRDmARIsAAw-TUnjQwvoNo2JDL-b9SBV3PX7ow4mZ1I85BWJoKfFY0UPp6bzVPBZt3AaAvkOEALw_wcB

I bought my Ilse Jacobsen coat here.

What a fantastic web site, thanks!

Anyone found one that hits lower than mid thigh but isn't super long? Like the previous poster I find the shorter ones unflattering but can't find one that doesn't go right down to the knee (too long for me)

I've got the short seafolly from seasalt. It's lined in a thin towelling material so room warm for summer days but perfect for now. It works well in winter too with a jumper underneath. It withstood festival all day rain and a very wet week at the coast. I'm 5.7 and it hits at the top of my thighs. They do have outlets so it's worth checking if one is nearby.
