Short Leather Skirt

Singap0reSling · 31/08/2017 10:14

For some unknown reason, I've got a liking for a short leather skirt. I'm imagining wearing the skirt with opaque tights and boots in the autumn / winter, jumper on top.

I've had a knee length faux leather skirt for a few years but I think I'm done with that look now. So I fancy a shortish possibly A line? black leather skirt.

I think I might prefer real leather this time. I like quite a sparse, clean look. Some of the real leather skirts I've seen are made with several panels stitched together and I'm not overly keen on that.

Having said that, I've just ordered this one from Reiss to try on and I've been looking at this one from H&M too.

Has anyone seen anything nice recently?

I got the white company one last year which is nice. I tried a jigsaw one but it had a really delicate raw edge which looked like it would be easily damaged so I sent it back.

taybert · 31/08/2017 10:40

Mine hasn't got pockets actually. Pockets are handy but I think I prefer the way it looks without.

Singap0reSling · 31/08/2017 10:42

Thanks taybert, I saw that White Company one when I trawled through some old S&B threads. It looks lovely but I'm worried the pockets and seams would look fussy on me.

Is the Jigsaw one their wrap skirt? I'm tempted to order that to try on. Their other short one also looks fussy too Confused

Ah, no pockets, probably the one time I'd prefer no pockets on a skirt Smile

I bought the White Company one in January, wore it a handful of times and it's now far too big for me. It's a 12 if anyone wants a bargain. This year's version has pockets and is lovely.

Singap0reSling · 01/09/2017 17:38

@Judydreamsofhorses I've PM'd you.

This looks a good one, and is a bargain.

Singap0reSling · 03/09/2017 11:41

Thanks Sesame. My local Oasis didn't have that in stock to try on. I tried on their faux leather skirt, along with a Whistles and the Jigsaw skirts.

I've cracked and bought the Jigsaw wrap skirt - this year's version is lined and there are no raw edges. It sits much straighter on me than the other A line leather skirts, and the length is better for me (I'm quite short).

Thanks for all the suggestions.

I've got an oasis one from last xmas I got in the sale . I never got round to wearing it but I will do this year ! I actually paid £25 for it down from about £90 so def a bargain!

Judydreamsofhorses · 03/09/2017 12:34

That Oasis one looks great.i bought this year's White Company one in a 10 and am dying to wear it - the size 12 is on eBay now. There was a period last year when I had about eight different ones flying around on order,my poor credit card.

bananafish81 · 03/09/2017 13:16

I'm hankering after a genuine leather mini skirt

Anyone tried Whistles?

bananafish81 · 03/09/2017 13:17

Or I could reread and see that @Singap0reSling tried the Whistles Blush

Let me rephrase. How did anyone find the Whistles who's tried it?

Singap0reSling · 03/09/2017 13:27

bananafish81 yes, I did try the Whistles one on :-) and felt it was too long on me (just above the knee) and too "A" shaped - but maybe because I'm only 5ft 2".

Interesting! I also have a hankering for a leather mini skirt and am a similar height to @Singap0reSling. That Jigsaw one is gorgeous.

Can anyone ask what you're planning on wearing in your feet though? I'm a size 10 (but suspect that's because most sizing is generous these days) and I have 'shapely' calves, which are fairly muscly. They look quite good in high heels, but I can't really wear heels anymore and ankle boots cut my legs off in exactly the wrong place to be flattering.

I have my leather miniskirt all planned until I get to my feet, and then it goes wrong. I'd love to wear something other than jeans this winter so would appreciate any advice!

imjessie · 03/09/2017 14:30

I wear ankle boots , I think shoes look a bit dated . I got some amazing red ones and I have some leopard ones from last year . I wear with a black thin knit jumper .

AmberNectarine · 03/09/2017 14:33

Was going to suggest the Jigsaw wrap one, which I have, but I see you've bought it already. Great choice!

Judydreamsofhorses · 03/09/2017 14:36

I wear mine with either black Chelsea boots, or black Stan Smiths, filiboom. Because the skirt is quite a statement, I keep the rest of the outfit casual, so on top usually wear a sweatshirt or crew neck jumper, then black or grey opaque tights.

banana I also bought the Whistles one and found it too stiff and stick-y out-y. I'm 5ft 6 and the length was good. The Jigsaw one was also rejected for being massive, plus it had a mark on it where the security tag had been.

imjessie · 03/09/2017 15:46

Yes to black Chelsea boots too if I wear a coloured jumper / top .

CountFosco · 03/09/2017 17:56

I'm lusting after this green suede skirt at the moment but may just be being nostalgic for a Prussian blue suede mini from Topshop I had back in the 90s that barely covered my bum. I wore that with DMs, black opaques and a tiny black t-shirt. I was a size 10 in Top shop back then though.

Filiboom · 03/09/2017 20:25

Thank you! I need to work out the ankle boots thing. Because I have quite narrow ankles , and knees (certainly compared to my calves), I always feel it's really unflattering. But maybe I just need to get over myself and just go for it. I just keep hoping there's an alternative (other than trainers) that I'm missing....

SesameSparkle · 03/09/2017 20:27

I have a knee length pencil leather skirt. I wear with flat bikers (can't wear heels), which come up just a little higher than ankle boots. I've also worn with patterned black tights and chunky brogues (but I think I liked that look less).

bananafish81 · 03/09/2017 20:29

@Singap0reSling thanks! There are two styles of leather A-line skirts on Whistles.com, I've ordered both styles in a couple of sizes each to try and see how I get on. I'm 5'8" so will see what the fit is like and will report back!

I wear my faux leather one with black ankle boots or white stan Smiths

I also have a really stompy biker boot that I wear with girly florals that I quite fancy wearing with the leather skirt and a soft cashmere jumper. I like to mix up something quite feminine with something a bit more edgy. Not sure if biker boot and leather skirt will look a bit Hells Angel even if with a pretty top!!

bananafish81 · 03/09/2017 20:55

@Judydreamsofhorses thanks for the tip about Jigsaw - it looks massive on the model, it says she's 5'10" and it looks like it's only just above her knees.

If I don't get on with the Whistles one will try the White company, but it also looks like it could be quite long on me (again, the model is taller and it's only a little bit above her knees)

I adore the look of this French Connection Jetson leather skirt but it's in the sale and out of stock in my size www.frenchconnection.com/product/73dau/jetson-leather-skirt.htm

Donostia · 04/09/2017 11:08

oh i was the highest bidder on that ebay one and was so excited but ds threw up at the crucial minute and when i got back someone had pipped me to the post by £1 Sad would love one but lost my job this week so scared to buy the new white company one, plus don't want pockets.

botemp · 04/09/2017 12:50

This one from Ganni is lovely too, much more of a soft A-line and not too long IME. I love the minimal invisible pocket detailing on it too. I bought it last year in a different colour, it looks far more expensive than it is IMO. It's also lamb's leather as opposed to goat, which most of the more affordable high street offering tend to be made from.

@Donostia, what size are you? I have an H&M (genuine) leather skirt that's a few sizes too big for me now. It's more of a mini than A-line, no pockets. I think it's an EU40 but will have to check to make sure, it's yours if you want it.
