Totally frivolous, but I need this.. please talk me down

I was looking for a sensible, durable and practical option... but now I have seen this I desperately need it.

It is a lot of money for a suitcase, but I love it so much. Will it be a complete liability and get my luggage pinched?

I do have some birthday vouchers that would bring it down to normal suitcase price, so the frivol element could be the birthday present.

They do it in black too which is maybe more grownup?

(I'm rather hoping that the lovely people that hang out on S&B will be more sympathetic to my frippery and less inclined to flame me than if I posted elsewhere...)

It's very cute, I like the black best. Crazy price though. Even with vouchers I'd have to own half the clothes in the planet to buy it. But if it's your thing, go for it.

MsJolly · 29/08/2017 22:20

Depends on how much you travel/how often you will use it.
It would get trashed by airlines and wouldn't look so pretty once scratched and bashed.
I probably wouldn't, and would frippery away on a handbag-& shoes, always shoes!

Caprianna · 29/08/2017 22:22

If you want to be talked down, I can tell you I think it looks ridiculous. At least noone would steal itSmile

Bombardier25966 · 29/08/2017 22:23

No one is going to nick that! Black slightly better but Ted Baker is pretty chavvy nowadays, it looks cheap.

I'd go for something more classic. You'll regret the TB one by next year.

MazDazzle · 29/08/2017 22:24

Wow, it's spectacular. I love it! (Not helping)

There are lots of 'bits' to it though that could get damaged/break. It's ideal for travelling by car/train, but def. not by plane. It would get absolutely battered.

Whatthefoxgoingon · 29/08/2017 22:25

You need a proper luggage manufacturer. Samsonite, rimowa, delsey etc. This won't survive 5 minutes in hold luggage.

Stellato · 29/08/2017 22:26

I like the black one, but it will get very scratched as it's so shiny (even if you get a carry on size and never check it) and that would be sad.

36plusandtrying · 29/08/2017 22:41

If your using it regularly to fly and you want it to stay pristine then no way .. it will get scratched, bashed, stickers stuck on it look a bit tired after 1 trip. However having a unique bag is useful to stop "accidental theft" at the baggage hall and make it easier to spot amongst all the other bags. Also think how heavy the actual bag is what % of your allowance would that be? Sorry got my practical head on and have made the mistake myself ..... happy travels !

witwootoodleoo · 29/08/2017 22:45

I'm not sure why I like it, I'm not a Ted Baker fan but it just seems so pretty compared to all the fugly suitcases out there.

I do travel a fair amount. I take the point that it won't enjoy going in the hold, so I'd have to get another suitcase for that as I probably have six or so trips abroad a year. But I do travel a fair amount by train too, normally somewhere at least once a month.. so maybe I could justify it as a train suitcase? Sitting and looking at it would brighten up my journey.

It might just be the rose gold calling me....

I wouldn't but it - you'd be gutted if the airline lost it.

SilentlyScreamingAgain · 29/08/2017 22:54

I'm sorry you got the miserable fuckers, OP. Anyone with eyes (and close reading skills) can see that you need that case and the matching twinkley ring.

Enjoy. You're worth it. You can pass it on to your favourite grandchild/niece/nephew it will be a family heirloom. Those kids will be fighting to care for you in your old age, just to get their hands on that case. Worth every penny. You'll be saving a fortune in care home fees. And (this was my mother's favourite) there are no pockets in a shroud.

coupester · 29/08/2017 22:56

The first trip my previous suitcase went on (by plane), it lost a wheel.

It is very pretty but will definitely get bashed. The hard ones always seem to get dented. If you're not using it for planes and you don't mind the cost then go for it! It's your money and your birthday vouchers so spend it on what you like! Smile

CantThinkOfUsername · 29/08/2017 23:01

I was you a few months ago, bought the set, found out how poor quality they were and am kicking myself!!! Sad

Ninjakittysmells · 29/08/2017 23:03

Oh! I love it - you should get it! I want one but I only ever goto Butlins these days SadGrin

LonginesPrime · 29/08/2017 23:05

It looks just like my mother's travel soap holder from the eighties and kind of like her 80s bathroom decor generally

Ninjakittysmells · 29/08/2017 23:07

It comes in grey too - I sort of think this print looks like an Alsatian wearing a crown though..... abstract art poss not my calling!

Totally frivolous, but I need this.. please talk me down
TheSnorkMaidenReturns · 29/08/2017 23:46

No way! Luggage needs to be industrial and up the job, especially if you are a regular traveller. You could get a fabulous quality case for that money, and it would last for years.

Mojominksy · 29/08/2017 23:53

Could you get a plain black one and put sticker transfers on it to recreate the look?

Arealhumanbeing · 29/08/2017 23:59

I think MUJI do a fully rose gold suitcase. £65 cheaper than your TB and it's extremely sturdy but looks delicate.

burnishedsilver · 30/08/2017 01:08

Baggage handlers will make bits of that and it'll be covered in black marks after one use. Total waste of money.

ArieltheMermaid1720 · 30/08/2017 09:20

I've got a ted baker travel case OP for carry on. It's just so pretty and it makes me happy, so I say go for it if you really want it, or if you are worried about airline bashing a carry on bag might be worth considering!

lurkingfromhome · 30/08/2017 09:31

There is no point whatsoever spending that amount of cash on luggage by Ted Baker. If you want classy, durable luggage that will last you for ever, buy from a proper luggage brand.

This will look scruffy after ten minutes and I wouldn't hold out that it would survive more than a couple of flights without it starting to fall apart. I think with luggage you need to either go cheap, replace more often and not be heartbroken when a wheel comes off (this is what I do), or invest your money properly and buy beautiful Samsonite or similar (this is what I would do if I travelled loads).

KatharinaRosalie · 30/08/2017 09:42

I KNEW it was the Ted Baker case you were talking about before I clicked on the link. It's gorgeous, isn't it? And they also have several matching purses that I'm lusting after.

But no. It will inevitably get damaged, scratched and dirty even after your first trip and you'll be upset. Get a less fancy suitcase and one of the Oriental Blossom bags or purses instead?

LapinR0se · 30/08/2017 09:57

I think it is tacky looking and will be filthy after two or three uses.
I have brics luggage for carry on and samsonite luggage for the hold. They are 10 years old and look great.
TK Maxx has bargain luggage from really good brands

Beadieeye · 30/08/2017 12:14

Hmm I see where you're coming from but if I were in your shoes and I'd spent that much money on it, I would want it handled with care and to stay new looking, which it won't. It will get bashed about, covered in those black marks which won't come off, and general muck.
But then again I'm not you and those things might not bother you.
