Do you think a pixie cut is ageing?

I've booked a hair appointment for next week, and am thinking about going for a dramatic change. At the moment my hair (straight and dark brunette) is just past my shoulders. It is also in bad condition due to multiple colourings to hide the greys.

I've had short hair in the past and loved it. I'm very tempted to go for a pixie cut now partly to get rid of the out of condition hair, but also because I fancy a change. My worries are a) that I won't suit it now that I'm 45 and b) that it will age me. As background, I'm frequently told that I look much younger than 45, and don't want that to change once I've gone for the chop! I've included a picture so that you can tell me if you don't think I'd suit it. For what it's worth, I do have a long neck (hidden by my clothes in the pic) and I'm slim. I don't know if those factors are important or not for a short cut!

Yes.

LapinR0se · 29/08/2017 14:02

I think it's ageing too

pickleface · 29/08/2017 14:10

I've just had all my hair cut off again for the same reasons. I love it. There's loads of cuts on Pinterest for inspiration

RubyGoat · 29/08/2017 14:16

No. I think it depends on your face shape, exactly what cut you get & how good it is, & how you style it. I have a very short pixie, FWIW, everyone says it really suits me. My hair used to be very long, way past my bum. It's so much easier now.

papersmile · 29/08/2017 14:28

If you get the right cut it make you look really striking and you have (in my opinion) a good face for a pixie (if you see what I mean).

I used to shave my head in my 20s, and loved short hair. I've just had another pixie cut in my mid-40s to get rid of the dye, so I have gone short AND grey. It's taken me a couple of weeks to get used to it but I love it. I don't know whether I look older, and really don't care.

Anyway, I digress. I really recommend going for the chop.

A pixie will emphasise your features, so if you've got bad skin or look haggered then it's not going to work for you. That definitely isn't the case with you so I'd say go for it!

CarrieErbag · 29/08/2017 14:55

I think they can be aging if your face is starting to 'go a bit south'
You however look gorgeous and could get away with anything. Envy

I've spent 2 years growing my pixie out and I absolutely hate my hair. I really don't think I suit long hair, on me its uninteresting and annoying. I'm getting it cut next week too, after which I'll have a grey/white pixie. I have a really noticeable white streak around my hairline at the front. I think the pixie will play this streak up. I do love my streak.

EraArils · 29/08/2017 15:05

I say go for it, you have the perfect face for it.

TheNaze73 · 29/08/2017 15:08

I agree with Era, it'll suit you

HarrietVane99 · 29/08/2017 15:14

I think longer hair can be aging. I notice that when mine is getting a bit long, it seems to drag my whole face down - and I haven't got a long face.

I saw a lady once who had very thick, very short white hair - she looked terrific.

Fosterdog123 · 29/08/2017 15:26

It's definitely ageing, especially at 40+. Get a great cut but keep it longer.

honeylou42 · 29/08/2017 15:28

I think it would be perfect, your bone structure is beautiful Smile

Summer15coming · 29/08/2017 15:37

Thanks so much for all your feedback, everyone! I think I'm feeling more confident about going for it! It's such a huge decision...

Era - I love the sound of your streaked pixie!

Yeah, they are ageing tbh. I call them a "nothing" haircut. Isabella Rossellini has one and it does nothin, for her.
Pixie cuts are too clipped looking, have no style to them and women just look scalped.
Katy Perry is not far off one and she looks awful.

PickAChew · 29/08/2017 15:45

You've got great cheekbones. It would look fab.

eddiemairswife · 29/08/2017 15:56

I think long hair can be ageing. I watched a programme years ago, where Coleen Nolan was trying to decide whether to have Botox in order to look younger. I remember thinking then that a few inches off her hair would have the same effect. She decided against Botox and still has the same hair.

Summer15coming · 29/08/2017 16:04

Shitorbust - when I say 'pixie cut' I'm not thinking of the near scalped, shorn look. There are umpteen pixie cuts possible - some very groomed, some with longer bits at the front etc. etc. If I go for it I will ask my hairdresser for some advice as to exact style, although I've screen shotted quite a few that I like.

You don't look your age at all! Shock

I say go for it but I would keep some sweeping longer layers around the front as your face is quite round (not intended to sound rude - having a round face is very youthful) so it would frame it nicely. I think you'll look really good Grin

On me however I think it would make me look about 90. I am 37 but I have quite a hard face compared to you!

LunaTheCat · 29/08/2017 19:20

You look gorgeous. You have great bone structure so you would suit a pixie or anything else you want!
If you are feeling nervous you could try a shorter style first rather than go the full pixie.
Can you post an after picture so we can see?

absolutelynoway · 29/08/2017 19:32

You're so beautiful. But please don't cut your lovely hair into a pixie; they're so unflattering.

DontCallMeCharlotte · 29/08/2017 22:38

I've got something like that - short layers at the back, but enough to tuck behind ears at the front. Look up "pixie bob". Colleague told me I looked ten years younger Smile

PaganGoddessBrigid · 29/08/2017 22:44

I wouldn't go that short if I were you.

Maybe this though, but not a pixie

katie holmes hair was actually nicer when it was shorter and you look a bit like her OP
